Seems like my idea of waiting for Super Street Fighter V is the way to go. I don't care too much about the bare bones roster (I really wanna try Bison) but with a borked online mode, no story and no challenge modes I think I'll pass for now.
@jaypb08: I kinda hated fighting games until university when I had friends next door to play with. I probably dumped a combined total of over a thousand hours into Tekken, Marvel 3, MK and SF. We still suck but its a ton of fun nonetheless.
@deathpooky: The game isn't more difficult than Enemy Unknown/Within, it's just different. You get equally fucked in EU the first time a Cyberdisc rolls up and you don't know what it is, like you do here when the Gatekeeper appears. The power creep is still present, by the late game all your troops are nigh invincible superheroes that obliterate everything in sight (and many things out of sight too). If you have slightly more tactical sense than a donkey beating this game on the default difficulty is not hard.
Amazing game, terrible performance. If you got a beastly PC (I7, 980 level) you'll probably be fine but otherwise wait for a few patches. By that time, there will probably be a plethora of mods available too.
I want to say Enemy Unknown used a seed that was set at the start of the battle to determine which side the dice fell on percent chances. If you had a 80% chance to hit, but the seed at the start of the battle said that shot will miss, it will miss no matter how many times you reload a save. Is that still the case for XCOM 2?
Yes. It generates a table, which is referenced when % results need to be determined. If you reload and repeat the exact same action same result will happen. But there are ways around it if you know how, like using up the generated values by other actions that require them.
The Long War mod even had a "Save Scum" second-wave option which randomized that table if you reloaded a save. It is a very deliberate design decision I'd imagine.
I just beat the game on Commander/Ironman. Took me four attempts, this last run went stellar. Only two names on the memorial from the first two months, after that not a single death. It's kinda ridiculous how powerful you become with plasma weapons, advanced explosives, WAR suits and psionics. To put it in perspective, my final successful shot percentage was 80%.
I was kinda surprised how intriguing the story of this game was. The enemy design was awesome, though they certainly lack intelligence. High ground and overwatch traps still makes for an absolute massacre.
Despite the atrocious performance I loved it. It doesn't have the tactical depth of Long War but the guerilla style makes for a better overall experience.
