Selene is a fictional character portrayed by actress
Kate Beckinsale and she is the protagonist of the first and second film;
Underworld and
Underworld: Evolution. She also made a cameo appearance in the end of the film
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, the prequel installment to
Underworld.
At the beginning of
Underworld: Evolution, during the early Middle Ages, the vampire elder
Viktor decided to keep Selene and give her immortality because she has an uncanny resemblance to Sonja, the daughter of Viktor whom he executed. Selene, believed Viktor that her family was slaughtered by Lycans, she then rised to the ranks of a death dealer and had been hunting them for centuries, one by one until the brink of extinction. At the end of Underworld: Evolution, Alexander Corvinus, the first true immortal - father of the vampire and lycan species, the strongest of them all with the ability to resist sunlight. Alexander gave his blood to Selene to end his sons for the bitter feud that lastest for centuries once and for all.
Other appearances
Selene has also appeared as the main character in books; Underworld, Blood Enemy and Evolution written by Greg Cox that's based on movie. She is also one of the protagonist of the game, Underworld: The Eternal War, developed by Lucky Chicken Games in 2004.
