@janmanHey, just something I noticed that I'm sure you're aware of. The camera that is the two-shot of Jeff and Brad looks great. However the wide shot of Jeff, Brad, Jason and Ben looks pale and not as colorful. It' looks kinda drab.

Never mind. I think it's just me.

Everyone does great work at Giant Bomb! Keep it up! <3 Izzy.

A small comment on the DMC5 stuff. With the cameo system, many times the people that you get in your missions are actual players in real time whenever it can. You can tell by an icon whether or not it's real time.

haha my reaction was pretty similar to Brad on the beats thing. First you think hey yeaa.. this makes total sense, let's do this. But then you realize that it's all based off of Switzerland so you can't just have the fast shorthands like ohh.. 1000 beats per day, 800 beats is like the evening , 500 beats is the middle of the day..

Eventually everyone would get used to it though... hmm

I watched Bad Neighbors this week starring Zac Efron. Playing a douche fratboy felt very natural for him .

@jeff

1. Halo: Reach's character customization was for every single mode of Halo: Reach. The only customization you didn't see in co-op, firefight, or the single player was Covenant customization.

2. "Backpack kid" did not create the dance "flossing", he is also on camera at several Fortnite events pre-lawsuit where he said it was cool that his stuff was in the game and had no issue with it being monetized.

Also, I don't see why people whinge about stuff like "looter shooter"

Savings time used to suck when I had jobs where I might close the bar down at 2am, but had to be back to open it at 10am. Now that I'm an adult and can get myself to bed when I need to AND my need for sleep just isn't what it once was, DST is fine. Worst DST for me: 1989 (yes, I'm one of those people who has played video games for THE WHOLE HISTORY of video games).

Normalized stats in the division are the stats you take into competitive multiplayer scenarios like the dark zone.

There isn't an easy way to measure how "good" a weapon is in the division. Every weapon platform handles differently, has different spread, recoil, damage, rate of fire, ammo capacity, effective range, etc.

Dps is a pretty useless stat, especially in a game with single fire, burst fire, sniper rifles, and shotguns. (especially when you factor in critical and headshot damage multiplyers.)

I highly prefer the way the division highlights the differences between weapons, making it more varied and more like real life firearms.

If Jeff really wants to know if a weapon is "better" he should be looking at the weapon level.

A level 5 Police M4 is "better" than a level 4 vector.

You might not agree because every player values the different variables differently, but the game is balanced around the weapon levels.

Find a weapon platform you enjoy and find the highest level one of the best color.

Can't decide between what platform you like, always equip the highest level one with the best color.

It's more like dark souls than diablo. Each weapon is a slightly different play style.

Playing the division now solo. I've found the turret skill super helpful as I can set up a turret and then sneak around to the side. Then, when I'm ready I can tell my turret to begin firing and then I can hit everyone from the side or flank them. I've also found moving around in cover to be super beneficial. If you stay in one spot I've found the AI will hit you hit you pretty consistently but if you move just to the other side of your cover or, better yet, move to a new piece of cover you can catch the AI off guard firing at your old position. Really makes me feel like a tactical genius even though I'm far from it. Love it so far. Can't wait for my friends to hop in and enjoy it with me!

@bathala: out of plain curiosity why do you watch the video version? Is it like on a second monitor or something? I’m genuinely curious as I’ve always consumed the Bombcast as an audio thing - while walking from place to place etc. when I used to run regularly it used to help me keep my sanity when out running for over an hour.

Just never really got the point of a video with people talking to each other.

I'm not sure why Valve would have to come out saying rape is bad, that should be obvious without saying? They have difficulty against mobs fighting fiction that is entirely legal in most parts of the world. If you never enable the adult filters on Steam you'd never see such content. That *is* curation, stores have behind the counter products or the black curtain.

Fictional rape is not rape or illegal. If it was there'd be a lot of movies, literature, art, and porn of all kinds to ban.

This is so disingenuous, and I feel like anyone making this argument knows that it is. Clearly the idea that "it's bad" ISN'T ENOUGH WITHOUT SAYING IT or we wouldn't be here right now having a discussion about it. There's no redeeming value here beyond 'edge', and nothing worth defending, and it's a really really bad look to even tangentially align yourself with the creators of the game.

@birdsoul: There's certainly something worth defending, artistic freedom. Now the game itself looked pretty poorly made so I'd never play it(or read it since I think it was a VN). But they are allowed to make the game and they certainly will still sell it, just not on Steam now. Valve has by all means the right to remove it from Steam. But the reason they did it so 'hesitantly' is not because they think actual rape shouldn't be illegal, which it obviously should be and is. They were harassed by a mob trying to align the views represented in fiction to their organization which is absolutely false and the wrong way to go about anything. I don't assume the creators of the game think actual rape shouldn't be illegal(or just morally wrong) either. I don't insert every creator as the bad guy in their fiction. You can create disturbing content, shocking content, and still be the nicest person in reality, because fantasy doesn't make you a bad person.

Edit Add: Also again to clarify, this is not the issue of curation. This game would have been curated properly into the hidden Adult section. There's a different discussion to be had about 'low quality' games, but that's a whole other thing.

Talking about not following company policy on a recorded medium and distributing it to your followers...

When it happened at one of my prior jobs, the relaxed business casual environment suddenly became policy-enforced business formal.

About Labo.

Like, none of you guys are parents and I get that. It makes sense for you to think Labo was this "here and gone" thing but I assure you that Labo is a huge hit with kids. Even Vinny was underestimating the thing because it really is a step above a lot of other STEM and Physical Creation based games out there. It was not a flash in the pan, it is way more well known outside the enthusiast gaming sphere. My kid is already excited about the new Labo coming out and I'm looking forward to building it with him.

Lol "harassed by a mob" gtfo with this loaded language. It's a trash product and the most charitable interpretation is that they designed it to provoke a reaction, etc. More likely it's just a sincere(ly disgusting) take and doesn't deserve a platform. Just like Twitter enables Nazis and the YouTube algorithm promotes extremist videos (for which they deservedly get called out, but not enough), hosting terrible content on your platform does align you with that content to a degree simply because you have a team of moderators paid to moderate content.

"[Steam] would be OK with [rape] in a different light?"

Do people really not know there's a lot of hentai games on steam that feature all kinds of non-consensual sex? Rape Day was bringing nothing new to steam and I don't understand why it made such a big splash. I guess most people ignore all the RPGmaker anime games that have been pop up every couple of weeks. There's one on my New and Trending page RIGHT NOW! (Leanna's Slice of Life) Pretty sure one of the non-con heavy hentai games that came out a while ago featured the same character artist who works on the Senran Kagura games, which gives it a weird amount of credibility. Why was there no discussion around that one? Heck, Jeff has joked about playing VR Kanojo. That was developed by Illusion, who were infamous back in the day for making a game about raping women on a subway.

Steam is very OK with rape as long as it's horny and not edgy.

As someone who prefers dark, dreary weather and lighting at all times, DST is the absolute worst.

Also, I'm frustrated that I can't throw money at Apex Legends (specific stuff I want IN Apex Legends, anyways) without buying Loot Boxes. They always have some select skins in the Store for like $18, but none that I want. I'd gladly toss money to buy skins I wanted, for a few bucks here and there, but no way I'll buy coins for boxes with random items I most likely don't care for. Would also be neat if they let us save up and buy skins with the Apex points we learn from leveling up.

@birdsoul: It's easy to tell a large company to "hire more moderators!", but Youtube gets 200 hours of video content uploaded every minute, the majority of which isn't even in english

The Chinese government has millions of professional censors and moderators scouring the biggest social media sites for offensive content. And those are just the ones that work directly for the government, they also mandate that social media and tech companies hire their own army of moderators and hold them legally responsible for failing to "clean" their websites. Not just of porn (since all porn is illegal), but of anything that dissents from the government

Even with the ability and willingness to trample over every civil right in order to prosecute people for making fun of the president, it's still not enough. Illegal web content is still easily accessible in China to anyone willing to look for it, and that's going to remain true for any open platform with an audience of people coming up with new ways to circumvent filters

Anyway, Valve has a policy against games that are straight-up "trolling", which Rape Day seems to be. The creator is a self-described "sociopath making games for other sociopaths", so it got banned along with Aids Simulator and that one school shooting sim. Ultra low-budget games that seem to exist only to cause controversey

And the idea that Twitter "enabled" Nazis seems bizarre. Were they "disabled" before twitter? Maybe to people that weren't paying attention, those shitheads had their own massive but segregated communities. Most people didn't notice them, including the press, but the FBI certainly did. Stormfront had 100,000 registered members in the 2000s and have been under federal watch for 18 years due to the fact that so many of their members went on to commit hate crimes in real life.

@11111110: I'm pretty sure you know what people mean by saying Twitter "enables" Nazis. Twitter allows open white nationalists on its platform. It gives them "verified" status, which makes their tweets more visible and more likely to be seen. People who have histories of harassment are allowed to operate on Twitter until they do something egregious (which sometimes just means their target happens to be a celebrity).

YouTube's problems aren't limited to the actual content. The algorithms that show people new videos are terrible. Watch a video by Anita Sarkeesian, and next your "suggested videos" section turns into a swamp of disgustingly misogynistic videos "responding" to her.

It's not that there's no moderation, it's that the moderation sucks, and neither YouTube nor Twitter appear to give a shit about allowing extremists on the platform.

Arguing that perfect moderation is impossible and would make us like China is a poor argument that doesn't address what anyone is actually arguing.
