We Talk Over: Inside Xbox Event (05/07/20)

I'm only 22 min into the video but holy hell, why is everything so gross and demented looking.

Once again, many of these games are also coming out on PC and even PS5. This is the main problem with Xbox consoles, not enough exclusives and not many quality ones either. I'm sure the system will be a powerhouse and will run like a well built gaming PC for half the price. That is really the only good thing going for it. So if people can't afford to spend 1,000 plus dollars on a gaming rig, the Series X is the next best thing. For me, I have a decent gaming rig I custom build last year, and I'll be getting the PS5.

@steveurkel: most developers for pc won't try to harness pcie gen 4 storage speeds that the new consoles (especially ps5) are promising. if a game's core were developed around that feature it would likely be unplayable on conventional devices.
nextbox looks like a very good package [depending on price] but the PS5 tech specs have me the most intrigued. pc user myself, last console i had was the PS2.

Why did people think this was going to be some big e3 show? They already said that July is going to be the big one. This was just going to be some gameplay and some reveals ofmultiplatform games. It was fine for what it was.

Also, This must have been an all-time low for a giant bomb stream. Mic's were too high, Xbox stream was too low and the out of sync issue made this unwatchable. You must have had more time to prepare for this?

That leaky dick in Scorn needs to see a doctor. Might be some blockage, a uti, or an std.

I don';t really get the hate for the Valhalla trailer - people are acting like this is new to the way developers/publishers promote their game, they've been doing this for well over a decade not showing actual gameplay demos. Why would someone think a "gameplay trailer" would have someone playing it? Wow. just google the word gameplay trailer, and 9/10 its complete bullshit and sometimes even is a cutscene and shows none of the in engine stuff at all. Not pointed towards anyone here but seeing all the youtube videos crying about it is just bizarre. I don't need someone to turn this around and say "well actually", yeah, I get it, they sometimes call them this and sometimes call them that, but you are an absolute newb if you think that you're going to get an actual sit down and play gameplay demo of a game of this caliber this early in its media cycle. Also, it is Ubisoft - who may be one of the best developers out there and I absolutely love a lot of their games, but also complete jackasses when it comes to showing off their footage of their games. Remember the Division's "gameplay demo"? Remember Watchdog's "gameplay demo"?

I loved the trailer. I can't wait for that game and it has quickly shot to the top of my most anticipated games just on the basis of being another Assassin's Creed made by the same people who did Odyssey, holy crap sign me up. Odyssey is easily a top 10 game of all time and probably even top 5 when you think of what a video game experience is, that game is just hands down one of the best ever made. I might have to reinstall it before Valhalla to actually finish the DLC and embarrassingly enough, the main story. It is a big game and as much as I loved it and put over 100+ hours into it I never bothered to finish it because other things came out. Maybe since Valhalla will be a smaller game it may even top Odyssey if they manage to nail it as much as they did with that game.

I think in terms of excitement for games at this point it would go: Cyberpunk 2077, Watchdogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I don't really have a huge interest in anything else at this point besides those 3 games.

No idea where all these expectations are coming from. This was always going to be a Nintendo Direct-kind of thing. And it was fine. GB crew was way too negative and hard to listen to. And Abby still not knowing what half these games are is just getting obnoxious now.

Bright Memory and Call of the Sea are looking pretty awesome! And more Yakuza on PC is great news. I hope they'll port everything between 2 and Like a Dragon to PC as well though.

@av_gamer: This a 1000x and with some of their more interesting exclusives also being on PC (case in point Gears Tactics only on PC right now) I see no reason to get a Series X.

I didn't have any expectations for this given that i only knew it was a thing when i saw the video here. Some neat games for sure, but yeah normally the GB crew would probably not show up live for this.

Very interested in Scorn and Bloodlines 2 especially. I do wonder why the crew was so perplexed that Bloodlines 2 looked the way it did. To me, that's pretty much the same kind of presentation the first one had. Or are they thinking about the overhead Vampire The Masquerade: Redemption CRPG and were expecting a game in that vein?

The Ascent's style had me quite pumped, thinking it was gonna be some sort of sci-fi action rpg with a whole cast of alien races. Sadly it seems to be mostly an isometric action game. But hey, those can be sort of cool too at times. And while i don't have any feelings towards Dirt, this trailer did give me some Motorstorm vibes. I do think that mud is probably the most interesting race-surface because suddenly it's all about terrain deformation and figuring out how to get the most grip on an ever-changing track.

Also neat to see Bright Memory pop up here. That unfinished GB did of chapter 1 was pretty impressive for a 1 man operation. The Medium, Call of the Sea & Chorus could all be pretty cool as well.

Ok, so we got one game that uses 1 to 1 Giger esthetics and one game that uses 1 to 1 Zdzisław Beksiński esthetics. Great homages, i guess? Or when does a homage become a blatant rip-off and an admission of lack of creativity?

All the negativity of the crew is really bumming me out, that's for sure. This presentation was not the greatest but it was fine. I wonder what they were expected.

I was intrigued by Scorn because of the art style. I have a long going fascination with H.R. Giger. I remember it being a Kickstarter game. I watched the trailers and game play footage on Youtube two or three years ago. It is a first person shooter that used gross looking organic things as weapons and bullets. I completely forgot about it until now. I hope that is a timed exclusive so that it plays on PS5 in the future.

I am happy that Akira Yamoaka is working on a new game. I surprised that a lot of horror games are debuting on Xbox this time around.

Really not sure what the point of this showcase was. No gameplay to speak of and some seriously mediocre games. I think they should've waited to the point when they could go 'New Halo gameplay running on Series X' before putting up a video reel.

Feels mainly just like an expectation mismatch. Hyping this up as first look at XBX caliber games and AC gameplay reveal got everyone in the gaming world to pay attention, but its very different than what this was. As is, there was almost nothing specific to the XBX and a second AC non-gameplay trailer was a pretty bad capstone considering that was the carrot to keep everyone watching. Hard to see how this was designed to sell XBX at all, though a couple of the games look interesting (even if they revealed practically no details about them).

If they had the Nintendo Direct atmosphere (or previous Xbox / PS update events) to just saying that they're going to announce some new third party stuff, then likely no-one would have complained, but I would guess GB and most other people wouldn't have done live coverage either.

According to an IGN poll Scorn is the most popular game from this event.

Is it the world that’s sick or just IGN readers?

It's a bit rough that the only game that looked appealing from what they showed at all was the new Yakuza, a game that is already released. The rest were nasty horror games, some cyberpunk things, idk. Call of the Sea has potential I guess. I want to be excited for AC Valhalla, but I had so many problems with Origins and they haven't come out and say they've gone past those issues yet.

seems like this was a test bed for the digital presentation strategy they are going to use for the big announcements. It was fine, but I hope the July event has some more real bangers.
