Titanfall 2
The first Titanfall game was pretty good and was a breath of fresh air from your typical multiplayer fps without completely throwing the formula out the window. It looked like a Call of Duty game and had a similar atmosphere as a Call of Duty game only it was executed much better. It had much-needed improvements to the time to kill and spawns, as well as being more balanced and strategic, the combat was more action-packed and fast-paced due to being equipped with grappling hooks, jetpacks, a wall running ability and just sprinting a lot faster, in general, which really accelerated your movement and perfectly countered toxic actions like camping. Maps were much larger as well and gave players some breathing room but they weren't large enough to feel overwhelming. There's never ever a dull moment in Titanfall especially with the constant sounds of explosions and gunfire and the sound of grinding metal as these massive pilot controlled Titan robots clash head to head in combat, and it even incorporated some MOBA like mechanics in the form of the little soldier pawns running around the battlefield very akin to Minions or Creeps from League and DOTA. The game has a great natural progression system of sorts as the match goes on you'll face bigger and tougher enemies and things will get more chaotic. So what does the sequel offer? The same great experience with unadulterated improvement on all fronts. There is now a single player campaign which is pretty good especially when compared to some of the Call of Duty campaigns in recent memory and although short, doesn't overstay its welcome. There's more variety in the multiplayer with more Titans, more modes, and more customization options for you and your Titan. And even more improvements on the technical side of things with better matchmaking and servers. This is more like a review of the first Titanfall with some tacked on stuff about the game I'm actually supposed to be reviewing at the end but there's really not much to say other than its a great series and this one's even better than the first one so please go out and buy this game. The game isn't perfect and isn't exactly a generation-defining shooter like Bioshock or Halo 3 but it's still one of my favorite shooters ever. When I look at my criteria for what I think makes a good game Titanfall 2 just checks all the boxes. It's fun, it's replayable, it's got well-designed maps, mechanics, spawns, controls, it's very balanced, and my only issues are very minor and not really even worth mentioning so for me if Respawn manages to top it with a Titanfall 3 down the road that'll certainly get a five-star rating.
