Burnout Paradise Re-Release Coming In February

Criterion announces a new roll-up of its latest car crasher.

Party over here, crash cars over there!
Party over here, crash cars over there!
Criterion has announced plans for a new retail release of Burnout Paradise. Subtitled as The Ultimate Box, this update will contain all of the existing free downloadable updates, as well as an all-new Burnout Paradise Party mode that will allow up to eight players to compete in a controller-passing fashion.

This new party mode will also be available for purchase for owners of the existing version of Burnout Paradise, marking the first time that the game will see some non-free downloadable content. The new pack will also add extra achievements and trophies to the 360 and PS3 versions of the game.

There will also be changes to the main game, including the addition of a "restart race" option, something that a lot of players seem to have complained about up to this point. I'd say "hey, you should just learn the city and stop whining about it," but since I had to play the game for like 20 hours before I felt like I knew the city, I can see the value of making the game more friendly to new players. That seems to be the point with the other announced change, easier control for the game's first handful of cars.

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box will be released on the PC, PS3, and 360 in February 2009.

Criterion has really done a fantastic job with the regular updates and it's good to know we will be having more Burnout next year.

Will the restart race option be patched in for people who already have the game?

This is insane to me :P

They're still releasing this game? Plus the payed content is terrible in comparison to the free stuff we got...

Ridiculous. The only paid addition to this package is the party pack, which from the release I can only conclude to be the lamest possible addition to an online-focused Burnout game. Who the hell wants to play pass-the-controller while trying to beat burning routes with friends?

Just give us a new Burnout game already. Free additions or not, this one is overstaying its welcome.

I don't think they really need to provide much in the way of new content, releasing another box might push a few others who had been thinking of purchasing the game, or forgot about it, to buy it. That's what all the free content releases have done, and that's what this will do.

The addition of the "restart race" option finally seals the deal for me. I've been considering getting this game for a while, but now I'm definitely going to get it.

Are you fucking kidding me. This whole thing is amazing, but I would have loved the restart feature months ago when I was doing the fucking Burning Routes! And I want this content to be downloadable too.

Deal sealer for me too. I was going to pick this up on the cheap, but I guess I'll wait till they add those FIXES and game mode.

I will buy it when it comes out. It will give me something to do in that game. I have beaten everything in Burnout Paradise.

I am just now playing this game and it's AWESOME. I don't know why I waited so long. I'll for-sure buy the extras, I'd especially like to have the restart option.

I've seen Burnout still selling for €55 used. The game seems to hold it's value pretty well because of the updates. Compare that to PGR4 that I saw in the same store (EB Games) that was €10 and they came out at pretty much the same time right?

And that ladies and gentlemen, is how you support your fans and that is how you make honest money on downloadable content. You make a case for buying the full game to begin with. Soul Calibur 4, Pain and every other nickle-n-diming game out there. You should learn something here.

I never really thought a restart option was nexessary, but the addition of it won't hurt. As for this party pack, it looks ok. I'll probably buy it out of curiosity.

Wow can't wait for this !!!!! burnout just keeps getting better the only bad thing people thought about it was no restart option now there will be one so there's no reason why you shouldn't get yourself in gear and get it! :)

I too am really curious if the restart option will be patched in to the original copy.  My wife loves this game, but for her having to drive back to finish specific races is a no go.  I don't think we'd re-buy the game again... unless it was at a great price.  It would be nice to be able to delete all the DLC and keep that content on one disc instead.

So please guys, do some digging and find out if that restart patch is coming to the original version of the game.

restart buttons for noobs, i put in the hard yards into that game and got 1000/1000 gamerscore with no restart button. So ill happilly pay for this after soaking 120 hours into my favourite game of 2008,

From someone who only has played the game for 2-3 hours I can say that the restart button is a godsend.

After enjoying it a bit on the 360, this is definitely a PS3 purchase for me, for several reasons.  Will the new version be the same digital-download cost of about $30?  I imagine they'd just patch it.

@dagas: Fifty-five quid?  Nutta.  Nowhere in my town is it over $30 CDN now. Would you like 4 copies? :)

Chalk up one more person who's excited for the restart option.   I'm not sure how it has anything to do with learning the city, though.  It'll be a great time-saver.

This is awesome. I've never really missed the restart race option, but I can see myself getting lazy and using it a lot in the latter stages of the game.

The party mode looks awesome too. I've logged over 150 hours online and offline in this game on 360 and PS3 combined, and I've tried to sell my friends on it by giving them the controller and giving them pointers while they were freeroaming the city. This party mode makes the Burnout experience instantly accessible for family and friends, and the game's all the better for it.

I wish more developers would follow Criterion's example and keep their games alive this long.
