Snoop and MTV tie-up for all kinds of different business, including an interactive stop in Harmonix's music game thing.
Hands up, who likes popcorn??Snoop Dogg has partnered up with MTV for a multimedia deal that will cover all kinds of different products. Primarily, his next album, Malice in Wonderland, will be released through MTV. He'll also get his own new variety talk show, Dogg After Dark, which begins its run next week and will produce a whopping seven installments. Man, seven weeks? It's like he's going after Law & Order or WWE Raw or something in an attempt to have the longest-running show in the history of television. Anyway, on that show, he'll be backed up by his live band, the Snoopadelics.
The Rock Band tie-in is really only a blip in release. Here's the relevant portion:
In addition, songs from Snoop Dogg’s impressive catalogue of hits will be released on MTV’s hot-selling Rock Band® music video game platform.
Back catalog hits from Snoop could be a fun addition to the game, but probably only if you're rapping. Of course, the versions of his classics that he's done with his live backing band might provide slightly better fodder for the Rock Band experience. We'll have to wait and see what The Doggfather does next, I guess. I bet it rhymes with "smoking marijuana."

Yeah, and the reason is this: that's what HMX and their corporate overlords decided to call it.
You know, the same companies that decided that they shouldn't limit themselves to a genre for the sake of a trademark.
Oh, and why is it called Guitar Hero when it has drums and vocals? Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than Rock Band occassionally dipping into other genres. Also forget that Guitar Hero has songs like "Beat it" and "On The Road again".

What? "Beliefs"? Are the rock platforms religions now? And your beliefs are that anything you don't like should be completely destroyed so no one else can enjoy it? And now to draw a full circle of hypocrisy, I will say that anyone who doesn't like the banjo-line in Sin Wagon should be completely destroyed.
BTW it's obvious that Snoop Dogg's getting in because of all the stuff he's doing with MTV. But it was a matter of time before RB included hip-hop (As soon as they announced a DLC-based platform you could have figured that one out), and you can do a lot worse than Snoop. I wouldn't mind some LPJZ though, just for the sake of transition ;) (and I'll even more people would have hated that)

@KinjiroSSD: Yeah, I was thinking, a big Snoop Dogg fan could probably aready tell us which songs are going to make it to the platform, simply by asking him\her which songs feature healthy amounts of guitar, drums, and bass. Then again, most have drums and at least some bass, and that plastic guitar has played non-guitar sounds before more than once (Smokin' organ solo anyone?)

An interesting little experiment. Don't care for Snoop dog anymore though. This isn't '94. I wonder how someone is supposed to actually sing his songs. Rap doesn't really lend it'self well to the karaoke set...Well Beck and the Beastie Boys are in the game too so...

This issue isn't about musical diversity, it's about another example of other industries colliding with the games industry to produce an explosion of cash, which is promptly gobbled up. Mind, this happened with the music game genre pretty much as soon as the music industry proper got a sniff of GH/RB, so whatever.

Remember that Song Snoop had in Gran Turismo 4? Of course you don't, it was fucking terrible. Gin and Juice is his only good song, and it sounds better when the Gourds covered it.
This isn't surprising. Who cares if it's called "Rock Band"? We've had so many genres, and you know, a lot of them have been enjoyable! I never expected to like the country songs, but I tried a couple of them out, and they were really fun to play. I'm all for new genres and 'odd' choices. It's not like you have to buy it, anyway.

Did you really think there wasnt going to eventually be rap songs in Rock Band? there already were: MC Frontalot, and while His Frontatude is very hard to keep up with lyrically it is still a fun song to sing. I think Snoop and other rap songs are good, it expands the massive catalogue, but i do think that it will be light on "other band members"(just a basist and a drummer in most cases). But i do think there is room for Rap that uses a full band, Jay-Z has used guitar in many songs, as have Wu-Tang, and lets not forget The Roots. Though Honestly, as a fan of rap(obviously) i think it is time for a more "rap centered" rhythm game(in the vein of that horrid ps2 game, what was it called? "Get On Da Mic"?), although the main fault in the idea is that it is near impossible to make sure someone is saying the right words."
