Stop Asking for AC/DC in Your Music Games

Well, maybe. Harmonix might just have your Aussie devil rock needs covered with a rumored...retail expansion?

Since the Guitar Hero craze took off a few years ago, there's been a short list of hard-to-get acts that every fan of the genre has clamored for, bands so important that you have to imagine their people still balk at the idea of associating their hallowed names with plastic toy guitars. But money talks, and that list has been getting shorter and shorter over time, with AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock" serving as the Australian hard-rock juggernaut's rhythm-game debut in Rock Band 2. Seems like that would open up the door for a nice downloadable track pack or even full album, no?

A bit of sly employee sleuthing reveals more AC/DC may be on the way to Rock Band 2, but it won't come over your Internet connection. One of Destructoid's ballsier users--who happens to work for Wal-Mart--posted this employee memo shot, which pretty much speaks for itself.

As hard as Harmonix has been pushing DLC lately, with downloadable albums from the Red Hot Chii Peppers, Foo Fighters, and No Doubt all in the pipeline, it's a little puzzling that you may be grabbing a disc-based AC/DC pack in a physical store at some point. That also begs the question: would these songs install to your hard drive, Rock Band export-style, or will you have to swap in this disc every time you want to play them? AC/DC seems like one of the few bands with enough clout to demand these kinds of shenanigans without Harmonix just balking at them, but then, if this thing actually comes to pass, we may never know the answer.

On the upside, the Amazon listing for Live at Donington indicates you'd get basically every AC/DC song you could possibly want out of an AC/DC add-on, even if they're all live versions. Time to dust off your man-sized schoolboy uniforms, perhaps?

For Those About to Rock, we indeed, Salute You. Fire!

Cannot wait, I would pay silly money for that track list. The only thing thats missing is If You Want Blood (You've Got It)

I still don't undaerstand why they need to release a disc for this. Why not just do a Who-style DLC pack?

Wow, AC/DC. I would be fine if it could be exported but I don't, like many others, want a full game in addition.

Walmart is selling an exclusive "Live at Donington" CD/DVD, they've been promoting for a while now.  I'm guessing that part of this exclusive deal (that Wally world loves to do) means NOBODY can sell the content elsewhere, apparently including Harmonix via DLC.

Wow, that is an awesome list...I would gladly pay for a disc copy of that.  Hopefully it comes out on DLC too tho.

I bet if anything it's a "prepaid card" that unlocks the track pack via DLC (like the 20 extra tracks), it will probably be exclusive to walmart.

If it's a prepaid card, I'll have to ditch my principles and roll into Walmart for the first time in years.

Oh, if you're even a slight AC/DC fan and do not own the Live at Donnington blu ray (or DVD... if you must) you are MISSING OUT! I cannot stress that enough.

Based on what's unlocked for me so far in Rock Band 2 (and I've been buying a lot of DLC), the game is still light on tracks in the upper echelons of difficulty.  Sixteen ridiculously long live versions of AC/DC tracks would seem to fit the bill.

I liked AC/DC a lot during their Highway to Hell and Back in Black days however they went too generic after that,IMO.
We want Led Zeppelin in music games. :D
