Valve Not Done With TF2 Yet, 360 Getting PC Content

New features and a class pack for the scout on Steam, while the 360 version will soon get "everything" available on the PC.

Much love coming soon for this tall drink of water.
Much love coming soon for this tall drink of water.
Amidst all the hubbub about Left 4 Dead, you might have forgotten about last year's big multiplayer release from Valve, Team Fortress 2. Good thing Valve hasn't forgotten! Yesterday the official TF2 blog ran a story with a bunch of updates about what's going on with the game. Most surprising was the revelation that the Xbox 360 version will finally be getting all the fun post-release add-ons the PC version has seen lately.

We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year. We'll provide you with a rough date when we have one.

Great news for people who complained Valve has been neglecting the 360 game. And perhaps even better news for people who bought Left 4 Dead on the Xbox (and are, y'know, wondering about post-release support on that one).

The post also detailed numerous improvements coming to the game, from class and teleporter tweaks to the next character class content pack, which it was confirmed will go to the Scout. The first patch is now out, and here's a full rundown of the changes (stolen from Shacknews).

  • The Engineer's teleporters can now be upgraded to level three. It will recharge faster the higher level it is
  • The Engineer's dispensers can now be upgraded to level three. It will give out metal and heal faster as it is upgraded
  • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground or from health cabinets
  • Some changes to the second part of the first stage of Goldrush to give the attackers more of an advantage
  • Any weapons that fire bullets (shotguns, sniper's machine gun, heavy's minigun, etc.) can now break apart the Demoman's stickybombs
  • The icon on the HUD for a person calling for Medic will now give more information to the medic (if the target is low on health, on fire, etc.)
  • Added an achievement tracker that will allow people to choose specific achievements that they are trying to get
  • There is now a custom icon for death messages when the player was killed from a critical hit
  • Added a new particle effect for when a player enters the water
  • Added smoke to the feet of a rocket jumping soldier
  • Players will now have some particles swirling around them so other players can see when they are overhealed

Anybody still playing Team Fortress 2 out there, or have Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, and other shiny new toys distracted you?

hopefully should be a great update, certainly the demoman charges now being less useful will be good, because hopefully people now will not be able to just spam an area. and they can only be destroyed by bullets right, not rockets, or other stickies

Those sound like some interesting updates.  I'm not sure what changes were needed in the first part of Goldrush, always seems more like stage two, capture two is the hard one.  Upgrading dispensers and teleporters sounds cool.  Stickies will be less useful now and the cloak improvement sounds good for spies.  It will be interesting to see what the scout achievements and unlockables will be.  I'm very impressed with the constant support Valve has shown this game for the last year as well as how well they've done at providing unlcokables that are nicely balanced.

Great news that 360 is finally getting these updates but unfortunately it is a tad too late.  I don't think anything could really get me to "go back" to Team Fortress, although these updates might get me to check it out again, Orange Box is still sitting on my shelf.

That great nut if it's going to be paid for content on the 360 (which i see no reason it shouldn't be) i can't find my self buying it, i simply don't play it enough to warrant a purchase. Now my real question is will Vavle regularily support Left 4 Dead?

This is cool and all, but I don't see anyone going on and playing the console version. Its pretty much pointless now. If you wanted to play TF2 you should have gotten the PC version already because NO ONE plays the 360 or PS3 version at all anymore. I say if you want to play TF2, get it for the PC. You don't even need that good of a computer to play it. It works perfectly with standard hardware.

Finally time to dust off Steam and TF2.  The lack of teamwork on Xbox Live has had me missing TF2 for weeks now.  I still need to get those heavy weapons too.  I'm a little sad about the demoman nerf though, that class was my shit for defending a point.

Hmm, I might finally buy my own copy of The Orange Box for 360. I was uncertain about it because of TF2's support, but now I guess I can just get it without hesitation especially that it's like the cheapest 360 title right now on the market, except maybe first Gears of War.

What kind of question is that? of course people still play that game! It's still awesome more then a year after release. Although i took a slight break over the last few weeks with all the games coming out.

Thank God, I love Team Fortress 2, I have it for both 360 and PC however I'm no good at PC FPS's so I mainly play on the Xbox.

I'm so glad Valve isn't leaving TF2 on the 360 out to rot. It's my favorite multiplayer game of all time, even more than Left 4 Dead.

If you wanna play send me a friend request @ DonaldKnoxS4C, let me know your from GiantBomb though.

Thanks for posting this story guys... It gives me hope for Left 4 Dead.

Don't spread lies. While not as robust as the more popular 360 games (Halo, Gears, CoD4) the community for TF2 is still very much alive on the 360 (albeit, smaller). Just about everybody I talk to on Live has been talking about wanting the updates, and how excited they will be to get them once they release.
Enough people will buy this to justify Valve's effort to deliver it to us.

Glad to see this! Gosh! I haven't played TF2 in forever. I liked the game a lot, but the lag could get pretty horrendous at times. Still, it is comforting to see Valve pay some attention to the 360. While this does prove that Valve is not only focus on the PC, it still does not completely convince me that they are going to back up Left 4 Dead as good as they probably could. If the 360 version of L4D goes for quite a while without major updates, patches and downloads, then there is a good chance I might sell my 360 version and switch to the good ol' PC.

I play TF2 almost every day on the 360.  I've probably invested more time into that game than any other in my life; and that's saying alot.  It breaks my heart how much they've neglected the 360 users.  I keep telling myself to get the PC version, I've just never got to it.  I like to play vids on console, not on my PC.  If this DLC doesn't come out sooner than later, I may have to resort to the PC version.

I suspect the PC users don't have mics.  having a mic in the 360 version is a great asset.

They've been saying this for a LONG time now.  I think Valve is either lying or lazy.  Not good either way.  The 360 version has become overrun with modders and glitchers.

Most dont in public matches but in clans its a lot more common. Some clans even have it as a requirment. On public servers its usually one or two people who usually know what there doing and become ad-hoc team leaders/strategists.
