Is Assassin's Creed still a PS3 title at heart?
I know that the first AC was originally a PS3 exclusive before it went multiplatform but with all the platform exclusive bonuses i can't help but think that Sony invests highly in the franchise. This exclusive beta for AC: Brotherhood, which will only be available on the PS3, seems to prove this theory.
What do you think, i'm i crazy or do you agree with this somewhat?
Well, if I remember right, the reviews said that AC I ran better on 360. On the other hand, ACII had connectivity to the PSP game, so I had the PS3 version of that. I'd say that it's a multiplatform game.
Uh...no?
That's like saying GTA IV is a 360 title because the DLC was exclusively on the 360 for a long time.
I forgot it was even announced originally as a PS3 exclusive. Dude, it launched on both consoles on day one. It's totally multiplatform.
The ps3 is not more powerful, its just different...
Assassins Creed 2 had no lead platform and still looks and runs better on 360.
" I know that the first AC was originally a PS3 exclusive before it went multiplatform "When was it ps3 exclusive?
" @KillerFly: The ps3 is not more powerful, its just different..."No, it's more powerful. Most developers just don't know how to utilize that power, so very few Playstation 3 games look better (technically, not artistically) than the best-looking 360 games. It's pretty much Killzone 2 and God of War III (some people would include Uncharted 2, but I'd say Alan Wake is on par with that).
" You could be right, but then again AC 1 & 2 both looked better graphically on the 360. Considering the PS3 is a more powerful machine, you would assume that the 360 versions look better because that was the lead platform the game was developed on. It's hard to say. "and probably sold more on the 360 as well..
Actually it wasn't. Ubisoft and Sony were in talks about an exclusivity deal a la Splinter Cell Conviction, but it never happened. In fact, the first time the game was ever announced (as "Assassins"), it was shown exclusively on 360 at, like, X05 or something." I know that the first AC was originally a PS3 exclusive before it went multiplatform "
On topic, though, who fucking cares?
Well idunno about on par, but Alan wake did look good, and overall i preffered Alan Wake's realistic look over Uncharted's saturation look.
Anyway all or atleast the large majority of Sony's major first party titles Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, inFamous use the same engine developed by Sony's R&D which is basicaly Naughty Dog, its even noticeable in inFamous 2 espeacialy when you look at the obvious Uncharted influence in the gameplay and design, so it really doesn't make that much big a difference whether KZ2 looks better than UC2 or not, they're running on the same tech.
" @Metal_Gear_Sunny said:I don't know about you, but AC2 had frame rate issues when I played it. And no, I'm not high. Nor do I want to be." AC2 ran horribly on the PS3, so I doubt it. "Are you high? "
The only thing that seems PS3 at heart as opposed to 360 is that it features jumping and melee combat rather than shooting.
Hell no" What i ment when i posted this was it seems Ubisoft likes Sony more then Microsoft, as evident buy the PS3 version gets all the exclusives(AC2's connectivity with the PSP game, exclusive beta for AC:B, etc.). "
When developing a multiplatform game, the PS3 is without a doubt the most annoying platform because it honestly is the lowest common denominator when it comes to spec, at least, with our engines at Ubi. Everything has to be optimized to the PS3s level; that includes halving the Normal textures, amount of objects on screen, strict LODs, and tiny texture streaming pool.
I'm obviously talking about multiplatform here, first party sony titles dont have these problems because resources and assets do not have to be compatible and work across three platforms.
Disclaimer: I dont hold the same opinion as the entire company when I say deving for PS3 sucks.

you must've played a different alan wake because there's no way it's technically on par with uncharted. from animation to textures, frame rate to motion capture, uncharted 2 is better graphically in every single way except for maybe lighting.
lol, yeah I totally heard that they were best buds 4 life." What i ment when i posted this was it seems Ubisoft likes Sony more then Microsoft, as evident buy the PS3 version gets all the exclusives(AC2's connectivity with the PSP game, exclusive beta for AC:B, etc.). "
But seriously, exclusive PSP connectivity? Microsoft doesn't have a handheld.
An exclusive Beta? Maybe Ubisoft is just more concerned about the PS3 version working properly?
Regardless, typically all of this stuff is being paid for one way or another.
(ps: Am I the only one who still finds it crazy that Betas have become such a popular marketing tool?)
I would be more inclined to believe that since the PC and XBox 360 versions are fundamentally similar, Ubisoft is able to test the two versions simultaneously with negligible consequences. However, since the PS3 uses drastically different architecture, they might want to expand its testing scope on that platform to ensure that they don't screw up anything that's PS3-specific.
This is just speculative on my part, obviously.
