I agree that people who obsess over stars are probably going about it the wrong way. And that the words are what matters. But there will always be those kinds of people, and I don't think I have what it takes to change their way of thinking. So, instead, maybe I can temper their expectations a little bit.

I kinda got this from the launch trailer. So badly edited. I've generally found the quality of trailers to be indicative of overall game quality. Not always of course, but in general.

I'd describe the borderlands 2 trailer as "not extremely well put together, but there's lots of cool stuff and I still want to play it". That seems about how I'm going to feel about Borderlands 2, and it's how I felt about Borderlands 1.

I really wish GB dropped ratings altogether. That way, people might actually read the damn reviews and form their own opinions. I'm guessing that's unlikely though since they probably have to stick ratings on them for commercial or legal reasons or whatever.

If Jeff doesn't give it five stars I might as well set my Xbox on fire.

@The_Laughing_Man: I care if he gives it one star because that would mean something had either gone seriously wrong technically or that at some point every gameplay element broke down or diverged wildly from his expectations.

4 or 3 stars? Won't give a shit. That just implies either minor detracting flaws or (in the case of 3 stars) a letdown as in more of the same, which is fine by me. But 2 stars or even just one? Something hath gone wrong and I'm curious as to why.

Either way, I'm preloaded and ready to find out in 5 hours.

I don't think the first Borderlands was amazing by any means. It was just good. I except this one to be better, but it's clearly not pushing for the AAA.

That's my point but I didn't wanna sound like a dick: We're pathetic enough that we wanna have the 'numbers' element in our gaming hobby like sports fans do, so we use review scores.

I really care about a score, but I definitely want to know what he thinks. Don't know what good it'll do considering I've bought my copies, but I care about Jeff's opinion. I remembered last week on the Bombcast when he mentioned that 2K allowed people to tweet their impressions of the game over the weekend, but Jeff never said anything (that I saw). Take that how you will.

I bet it gets 5 stars

He likes it enough to - according to ILM - have a high level character on 360 as well as mid level characters on PS3 and PC. You don't bother to play it on PS3 (short of 10 minutes to see any obvious differences) if you are not having a good time with the game.

Obviously this game is a Triple H game.

Im guessing he likes the gameplay but that they haven't fixed some of the problems with the original in the sequel 4 stars

Some of my favorite games this gen are not 5 star games. 4 stars is a great score

Meh, obsessing about scores is part of the nature of being a gamer. It wouldn't feel like a gamer board without some obsession over it, even if the emphasis is misplaced. Even still, I'd rather they dropped the scores as well and let the reviews stand for themselves. If others want to debate over what "score" the review represents, let them.

I bet he still gives it 5 stars and he's just struggling with the fact that the first one was such a breath of fresh air while this one is "just" a sequel. Even though everything is better the experience is lessened because it's an experience he's already spent so much time with.
