1 MILLION WEAPONS! uhh.. what...
I'm sure a lot of them are really weak and rather useless while some will be really awesome but also really hard to find out in the lands.
The reason it's surprising is that you don't usually find stuff like this in an FPS. It should be fun just to find new weapons and try them out, even if some will be better than others. I just wonder how many guns you'd be able to have on you at one time.
" Come on, they can't be serious.. They say that in borderlands that there will be 1 MILLION (1,000,000) weapon combinations. Wow. "apparentaly that Number is now 3,166,200 actually.
But it works like Diablo's Randomization, albeit a bit more stepped up i guess.
The weapons are randomly generated, stat and property wise. So for example, you can find a pistol that fires shotgun shells or a rifle that fires rockets.
The actual amount of is obviously exagerated and most of the differences won't be visably noticable.
" @memo: Right. It's a combination of a bunch of different elements, sort of like how Diablo generates loot, only it looks to be more random. Whatever the hype, the amount of ammo types is the real amount of weapons. All the other stuff they add to them to add to the variety are going to be somewhat superficial.
Take for instance MGS4, it had dozens of weapons with a bunch of combinations of attachments, but there was really only the Rail Gun, the pistol, the sniper rifle, and the automatic rifle, because those were the most important ammo types.

"this, also Fallout 3 drove me insane with its unique weapons which just had better stats but which looked identical. I love Elder Scrolls games because I love going out treasure hunting often ignoring quests for a long time. So hopefully there are many different weapon skins.
Kotaku posted some names of weapons like Weaksauce SMG, Terrible Shotgun (Fallout 3 rip) and Violent SMG. I know there will be tons of guns called the Violent SMG but with different stats and ammo types but these weapon names still sound pretty funny .
Actually Randy Pitchford was quoted in an interview as saying the current count is about 17.75M permutations for guns. Obviously they'll probably have to take some out (useless combinations etc).
Suffice to say, there will be plenty of guns. :P
They use several engines to randomly generate weapons by using diferent parts and adding them together resulting in a new weapon. The flaw is that by the end you'll end up with 20 different guns that all look the same.
I dont think its really over one million i think it is just over one million ways to customize your gun which is awesome as well
" I dont think its really over one million i think it is just over one million ways to customize your gun which is awesome as well "It's over 17 million unique weapons.

" @natetodamax said:Randy Pitchford doesn't lie. Besides, they've been pitching the game by saying they've developed a program that makes the weapons for them based on several factors. You can't customize weapons as far as I know" @Psykerstar said:I will believe it when i see it "" I dont think its really over one million i think it is just over one million ways to customize your gun which is awesome as well "It's over 17 million unique weapons. Looking forward to it, I know it'll probably be just like different colors that separate them or silly things like that, but it sounds like a cool idea and a want to see how it's handled.
I have yet to see 2 different shotguns/smgs/assault rifles that look different in this game. color variation and scopes dont count gearbox.
Not surprising if you've played something like diablo. but there will probably be thousands of weapons with only marginally different stats. I'd rather have it that way than fewer very unique weapons. How could you weapon farm?
No, you can't upgrade or make new guns. The farthest in that direction BL goes is upping your proficiency with a weapon. So if you play with a certain type for a while you will get stat increases.
