Borderlands Next DLC Details Leak Courtesy Of New Patch

Because you couldn't in Borderlands proper, you'll get your fill of Claptrap in the role-playing-shooter's next DLC. The smart-mouthed, sometimes helpful and precocious, unicycle-equipped machines will get a much-deserved stint in the limelight, as they, and even hybrid spins on them, will be the enemies.

This is according to a Gearbox forums user who decided to raid Borderlands' new files after a recent Steam patch, which added in Steam achievements support. He then dropped his findings--a long list that includes enemies, quests, dialogue, and locations--on the forums for all to see in advance of an official announcement.

The user even attempted to piece together how the story component of the DLC will shake out. He believes the content will foremost feature a ninja Claptrap that was created to impede Borderlands' vault hunters. But something goes awry. And instead of protecting, It decides to start an armed revolution using re-animated corpses and pieces of Claptraps for its military.

This is a Claptrap.

You'll face off against Grunt-traps, Midget-traps, Claptrap Kamikazes, Rakk-traps, Turret-traps, and even [spoiler] a General Knoxx-trap in missions that'll have you doing things like raiding a Claptrap factory, finding bobbleheads, fixing popcorn machines, and even shoving garbage in a food chute.

There's more, much more in fact, to glean from the details on the Gearbox message board but beware, the content will be spoiled for you.

It's important to note that all of the above might not shake out as the user, or us, are imagining. When speaking with IGN, Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford didn't dismiss this leak, but he did note that we're not seeing the whole picture. "There are few things there," he admitted. "But It's like reading a draft of a script for a move that hasn't even been announced yet, let alone launched. Yeah, you might learn something, but it's not the real thing and it could just drive you crazy thinking about it."

edit 2: I hope this is the last DLC. Just focus all of your energies on making the sequel better, Gearbox.

OK game.  I traded it in.   Missions were the same towards the end.

Zombies were already in Borderlands, so...

Ninja claptrap shall fall

Anything to make me play Borderlands again would be great.

#13 Posted by Daniel_Newton (1166 posts) -

Oh sweet, damn it though, I haven't got through the main game yet...
Let alone the previous DLC...

Oh, I assume this will be coming to all platforms right? Not just the PC version. That would be pretty dumb.

Wow, I would have figured almost a year later they'd be moving on, or finally releasing a gold edition.  I'm kinda impressed...even though I haven't actually played the other DLC yet.

#16 Posted by Rapid (1339 posts) -

There's going to be a lot of leakage.
"I'm leaking" BOOM!

#17 Posted by Archer88 (130 posts) -

I kinda thought it would be cool if they added in a new class that was very pet heavy called "The ClapTrap Herder" or something like that. I know that Mordecai has his bloodwing but that was more of an ability than an actual pet. I know its pipe dream, but it would make for a totally unique class.

Claptraps aren't funny; never were. I think this is a pretty bad idea for DLC, but then again they also did zombies and that fucking underdome thing so maybe DLC isn't their strong point.

Yes! This is great news! More reason to play more Borderlands! :D
Too bad my Roland lost all his equipment, time to start farming again

I've been playing a lot since yesterday, getting my sweet steam achievements filled. Nice to see more DLC to tide us over till the next game, which I am really looking forward to. Quicklook from Jeff? Because the site really needs more original Borderlands videos, lol.

I'm trembling a bit for Steam achievements.  My Borderlander buddies and I have been debating how much we would pay for DLC that lets us skip the PC's intro movies... 0-byte AVIs seem too simple in this day and age.  God damn the alias list on the Claptrap page is going to get ginormous.

Christ, just make a damn sequel!

They have an ointment for claptrap.

I fucking hate Claptraps.

I'd rather pay $10-15 for a cool DLC that extends the gameplay from an existing game than to pay $60 for an entirely new one.

I love Borderlands. I am going through Secret Armory now that I picked up for 3.50US over July 4th Steam sale. Best 3.50 I have ever spent on DLC.

#29 Posted by CookieMonster (2414 posts) -

Ah, so thats why they made me buy all the borderlands dlc that was on sale recently...

Haven't played since the patch... can anyone tell me if the Steam achievements are retroactive?

#35 Posted by MeatSim (10737 posts) -

This sounds like stuff I would expect of Borderlands.

#36 Posted by Godlovesugly (276 posts) -

Still haven't played this game, just never grabbed me.

Most of them are retroactive.

Yeah, I saw Pitchford make a similar comment on his Twitter.  He doesn't seem too happy about the leak, but then again...what do you expect when you release this info in the damn patch?!

You, sir, have no soul.

@Brackynews: There are configurations that let you skip both the intro movies, and that intro when you start a new game.
#40 Posted by OddyKnocky (37 posts) -

I burned out on Borderlands when Zombie Island was released. If only they did General Knoxx first...

When I was playing though, it was fucking awesome. But then you get msot of the talents you want, and one of the best guns, and it all seems a bit... pointless.

Roll on Borderlands 2.

The Giant Bomb crew were right! One more DLC so they can have another retail pack. I'm excited.

Took this last night when I finished Borderlands for the first time since that great Steam sale.  Didn't realise at the time that it wasn't in the original game.

Btw having just competed Borderlands is it worth me clicking the second playthrough button? Does it do anything besides reset the quests?  I've got the secret armoury to finish first but I'm curious.

For the sequel, use valve's steam for game finding and chat. Using Gamespy just to protest Valve's monopoly kept a great game from being amazing.

I'm looking forwards to this, just hoping it will be better than the other DLCs...

#49 Posted by MuttersomeTaxicab (667 posts) -

Hell, in spite of all my excitement over Starcraft 2, that patch had me fire up Borderlands, even after 124 hours of gameplay. I then realized I hadn't fully completed all the things ever in PT 2. Then I went and killed Skags for a solid hour.

Yeah. That game is still fun as fuck. Itching for more. Fiending for it, I suppose, is the term.
#50 Posted by Yummylee (21207 posts) -

Wow really?? I honestly never expected any more upcoming DLC for Borderlands after such a long gap. But I'm glad all the same! Haven't played on Borderlands in quite a while.
