Dead Space 2
Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Jan 25, 2011
Dead Space 2 is the sequel to the 2008 surprise hit Dead Space. The no-longer-silent Isaac Clarke finds himself trapped on a city-sized space station called the Sprawl, which has been overtaken by another Necromorph infestation.
So Hardcore mode seems pretty much impossible.
I just beat the game on Zealot first play through and it was hard at the end, very hard. Now I am expected to do that again with no checkpoints, less ammo and only three saves?
How the fuck is that possible there were a couple parts where I died upwards of a dozen times! This is coming from some one who beat the first dead space on hard first time through and got "one gun" and beat the game on "impossible" at the same time.
Now I understand those upgrade packs, EA is trying to sell this achievement from what I can tell because doing it with no extras seems pretty much impossible.
Yeah. I am already seeing the rage that would be induced and that was at the end of chapter 2! I have already decided that I will not be beating Hardcore. I will try it but I will probably give up after a few deaths.
Oh also. I will try to use more skill and shoot the guy before he attacks me.
If anyone on Giantbomb beats Hardcore they better thank Gary Whitta
I got a platinum trophy in the first Dead Space and playing through it on normal and hardcore a couple times, knowing where basically every enemy comes out, and having a good suit ( yes I admit I bought a $2 suit to help me out on my impossible run in the first game) it became a challenging but doable thing. I expect this game to be a bit harder, knowing when to save is the only hard thing to me, but I will do it. I'm trying to get 100% in everything Dead Space because it is becoming one of my favourite series, gonna get 100% in Ignition, than Extraction, and than I'll play Dead Space 2.

If you really think it will be "a bit harder" you are in for a rude awakening.

"Dude you started a thread about how hard a game is for you, and expected people to respond with what? Of course your going to get comments like "stop sucking".
I doubt the designers adjust difficulty before deciding DLC, there's no way it's actually impossible and requires an add on. If you think it's too hard, maybe you honestly just aren't good enough at the game. I'll admit I don't have the time to grind out the hardest difficulty in tons of games, doesn't make me any less of a gamer. What is there for someone to add on to this? Is there some secret to it you haven't figured out yet?
Disclaimer: Haven't played the game yet...
The save limit seems like a very arbitrary way to make it harder. Is that the only addition to the mode? Or is damage modified too, I thought impossible mode on Dead Space 1 was very challenging for the most part but not cheap. It felt like it had been actually tested, unlike most games harder modes that just alter metrics.

The thing is that on Zealot I died many times at the hardest parts, often because of a lack of ammo, now Harcore is like Zealot which is harder than imposible in the first Dead Space but with no check points and only three saves for the entire game. If you beat it you must have an emence amount of patients, know everything that happens in the game and be really good at it.

Not to Hardcore, you must start clean...
" I was thinking that you could just pause the game whenever you wanted to take a break. But I remembered bringing up the menu doesn't pause the action. In the game do the monsters just keep spawning if you wait around too long? Also I was thinking about how long the game is to do it with just 3 saves, would be interesting to see if any "speed runs/guides" come up in the future. "I believe that like the first game, there is a hard pause function. You just can't do anything else while the game is paused.

There is a pause but the issue is the lack of checkpoints.
" @HandsomeDevil said:Yikes. Can you save at any time?" I don't get the "3 saves" thing. Is it like Dead Rising where you only have 3 save slots, or can you literally only save 3 times? "You can only save 3 times in total throughout the campaign and there are no checkpoints. "
" @HandsomeDevil: You can only save 3 times, and when you die you go back to a save spot, not to a checkpoint. "So you can't even save anywhere? There are designated spots?
I'd love to see how many people get the achievement. I also would pay to see a livestream of Brad playing it.
edit: here is a random tip though, but it only works on the 360 version of the game.
Let us say you save on chapter 4/5, then when you need to switch disks for chapter 7-15, if you die on chapter 8, it will be contined form chapter 7, not the last one!
Though, there is catch to this: You must not turn your 360 off, lol.
Might be a good advice idk, like saving on chapter, 6, 10 and right before finale boss.
"@big_jon: I have, dozens of people on achievement forums says the enemies are not as tough. edit: here is a random tip though, but it only works on the 360 version of the game. I died at the train part today while up side down. I was mad.
ya....I'm at the end of the game on Zealot and can say with 100% positivity that I will never play Hardcore. The devs got way too ridiculous at the end; I can't imagine what they were thinking. I guess they want the player to endure the end rather than actually enjoy it.
The game is good and all but I can easily say imo Dead Space 1 was a better game and more enjoyable.
I'm totaling willing to suffer through hardcore, but only after someone else beats it and writes a guide on the best way to min/max it. The difficulty can be annoying, but what I'm really worried about is trapping myself in a corner with crappy resource management and/or poor saving.
Sounds close to impossible to me... Are you at least safe when you stop to look at your in-game map this time? In the original, you could still be attacked.
I kinda like that there is a mode like this is the game. I, probably, will never make the attempt, but knowing how my mind works, it would be fascinating to watch someone make tough choices when saving the game. Would you play it safe and save early or push on hoping that you don't bite it and have to start the game over? Would you play through it on insane and find out which parts you're having difficulty with to determine where you save? Would you keep a save until right before the final boss? How much memorizing would you have to do in order to remember where monsters jump out? How many times would you fail and lose a few hours of gameplay before throwing your controller out of a window? Would you stick with fewer weapons and have more ammo or would you diversify?
I would lose sleep over those decisions rather than over scary monsters jumping out of monster closets.
hmm, I dont know if it'll be too hard. Its not deaths, its saves. So using a guide/videos there shouldn't be too much trouble knowing whats around every corner. As long as your last save isn't like 3+ hrs from the end of the game it wont be too much of a hassle to replay the last bit until you survive once. Getting to that last save however... This reminded me of the Limbo achievement, so much bitching that I thought it would be impossible, did it on my second try after my initial play-through going slow and using videos every step.
It was pretty fun actually, adds a lot of dread to each step.
to the OP: Yes! And here is your answer: Dead Space 2 Hazard, Martial Law and Supernova DLC packs available now
This is low. I will play this on normal and not waste precious life time.
@big_jon: That sucks m8, better luck next time :)

" I heard Hardcore was basically like Normal setting only u get 3 saves only. Has anyone actually tried it? Seems alot of people here are giving up before they even try it. "
Rest Assure, that is the first thing I will try when I start the game, if it proves to be a little more then normal difficulty, that means getting to chapter 6/7 without save should be possible.
