Amen at that Randy.   I don't care how busted and old this game is or if  a good 2/3rds of my enjoyment is  nostalgia  this game is fucking awesome to me.

*Costumers* Also prefer Justin Bieber and Christina Aguilera by numbers.. Glad he found his Market...

Wii Sports anyone ?

#3 Posted by benjaebe (2783 posts) -

Artificially inflated due to preorders and the fact that it just came out. When sales drop off sharply I won't be too surprised. A lot of people bet on the Duke and lost.

So he based this on one week of sale?

You can'r return games and get all your money back if you do not like them.  Check the used rack 6 months from now for a better indication.

#9 Posted by TheDudeOfGaming (6078 posts) -

Awww come on, we all know 95% of people that bought the game are the people who waited for 15 years and now, when its out, of course they will buy it.
Sales=/=Good Game.

I'm gonna take a shit and go to the hardware store.

i still believe releasing DNF is just a ploy to introduce Duke to the younger generation.

Im torn about this, I love Gearbox and want them to earn money but Duke Nukem Forever is a terrible game.

#13 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) -

I hope Gearbox doesn't take a hit over this.

Buy it and then don't play it. It's not like they don't know that it's terrible.

Or just don't buy it and put your trust in all the other chuckleheads that bought it (including me).

I really hope this guy got his game.

He did. Someone made a post that he did indeed redeem it.

I just bought the game on the way home from work. I know it's terrible, but after all these years, I have to see it for myself, god damn it.

#19 Posted by phish09 (1110 posts) -
@Dalai: Just as a point of interest, 2001 was not 14 years ago, but I see your point.
#20 Posted by bybeach (4913 posts) -

I've got it. It hasn't made it out of the Amazon box. Don't think it will anytime soon. I still have to finish LA Noire, and Infamous is wanting it's turn. After that, barring bumps, Alice. Pitchford, I do hope it's because you will do something much better with the franchise. I hate to see it end this way...

Okay that's fine. Am I supposed be a caviar-eating elitist for not buying it, now?

Awesome typo, freakin' costumer's.
#23 Posted by EvilTwin (3324 posts) -

I don't know why he would try to defend it anyways. It's not like anyone is really blaming the quality of the game on Gearbox.

#24 Posted by Montyboggs (42 posts) -

@benjaebe: And many won as well, including me and every single one of my friends who have actually played it so far. I'm on my second playthrough. I've missed the old-school shooter. If it's not your thing it's perfectly understandable, but don't assume that means everyone has the seem feeling.

#25 Posted by RichardLOlson (1852 posts) -

I'm not at all surprised that this game is failing.  Everyone was so hyped just for the simple fact that the game was suppose to be so awesome.  I knew Gearbox wouldn't deliver on its promise for an awesome game.  Thank god I didn't buy this.

High sales doesn't mean that people liked the game. People can buy a game and then hate it. I suspect a lot of people who bought the game will be disappointed with it. There will obviously be people who like it too, but I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with their purchases.

Wait until resale or return figures are released.

#34 Posted by Altersparck (70 posts) -

On the one hand, I admire how Randy Pitchford sticks by his guns. On the other hand, I'm none too pleased that Gearbox and 2K have positioned DNF as anything other than nostalgia bait. Sixty dollars is way too much to ask for the contents of a time capsule.

#35 Posted by Chris2KLee (2337 posts) -

Game was gonna sell no matter what, and Take-Two knew this. I don't see a particularly long tail on this one, but it will make a good amount of cash based of the name and messed up legacy. Gearbox is probably glad because they can finally move forward with the franchise, and hopefully produce something of quality with the license.

#36 Posted by ArbitraryWater (11934 posts) -

I'm sure plenty of people bought it as a nostalgia appeal or a curiosity piece, just as I'm sure there is someone, somewhere who still finds Duke Nukem funny. In any case, I'm sure that in a month or two, there will be a lot of used copies of DNF at my local gamestop.

I bet I'll probably enjoy the game, but there's just not enough offered to warrant a full purchase for me. This is very much a "go to someone's place and play" game for me.

12-year-olds are about the only group I could imagine that would appreciate the "humor" in this game.

DNF wasn't a greasy hamburger- it was a shit sandwich.

Oh yeah, don't pay full price. That's my only regret with buying this game since I see a $20 price tag in it's future.

You do understand the content of the game was finished before Gearbox touched it right? Triptych had the single player content locked some time back if you look at the Duke timeline that is unlocked as an extra after you beat the game.

Wow, isn't that a bit of an overreaction to a tweet that was in no way meant to offend the people who did not buy the game?

Nah, you're just a loser for expecting quality from a 60$ video game.

#46 Posted by Sogeman (872 posts) -

Since when do love for a game and the sales numbers correlate? Maybe he should get some numbers on trade-ins during the first week. Almost all people I know pretty much have one word for the game: Shit

#47 Posted by MemphisSlim (71 posts) -

I just hope Gearbox does a GOOD game with this license now that they finally put out the shined-up 3D Realms project. I don't want to believe that the company that made Borderlands and its amazing DLC has lost its touch.

He Twitted today: Comment RE: looking at DNF for narrative depth: "It's like Rolling Stone magazine trying to find a deep meaningful message in a Ke$ha song."

Someone is Buthurt -> Make a better game next time.

#49 Posted by Chokobo (1228 posts) -

God forbid that they pick up a franchise that is guaranteed to make them some extra income with little to no effort on their part.

Well, he does have a point. You're about as likely to find a deep, meaningful narrative in Duke Nukem as you are to find a message of any substance in a Ke$ha song.

And frankly, with the way it sounds like the game has been selling, Pitchford is ultimately right. People are snapping the game up regardless of the shitty reviews.
