Duke Nukem Forever
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jun 14, 2011
After approximately fourteen years of development, the heavily infamous sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was finally released, in which the macho Duke must damper yet another alien invasion.
Intresting tweet from Randy Pitchford.
" With sales data, It seems like *customers* love Duke. I guess sometimes we want greasy hamburgers instead of caviar..."
Amen at that Randy. I don't care how busted and old this game is or if a good 2/3rds of my enjoyment is nostalgia this game is fucking awesome to me.
Well, he also followed that up with this:

Awww come on, we all know 95% of people that bought the game are the people who waited for 15 years and now, when its out, of course they will buy it.
Sales=/=Good Game.
Im torn about this, I love Gearbox and want them to earn money but Duke Nukem Forever is a terrible game.

Buy it and then don't play it. It's not like they don't know that it's terrible.
Or just don't buy it and put your trust in all the other chuckleheads that bought it (including me).
He did. Someone made a post that he did indeed redeem it.@benjaebe said:
Artificially inflated due to preorders and the fact that it just came out. When sales drop off sharply I won't be too surprised. A lot of people bet on the Duke and lost.
And people have been pre-ordering Duke Nukem Forever for 14 years.
I've got it. It hasn't made it out of the Amazon box. Don't think it will anytime soon. I still have to finish LA Noire, and Infamous is wanting it's turn. After that, barring bumps, Alice. Pitchford, I do hope it's because you will do something much better with the franchise. I hate to see it end this way...
Awesome typo, freakin' costumer's.*Costumers* Also prefer Justin Bieber and Christina Aguilera by numbers.. Glad he found his Market...
@benjaebe: And many won as well, including me and every single one of my friends who have actually played it so far. I'm on my second playthrough. I've missed the old-school shooter. If it's not your thing it's perfectly understandable, but don't assume that means everyone has the seem feeling.
I'm not at all surprised that this game is failing. Everyone was so hyped just for the simple fact that the game was suppose to be so awesome. I knew Gearbox wouldn't deliver on its promise for an awesome game. Thank god I didn't buy this.

Wow, that really does explain a lot.
High sales doesn't mean that people liked the game. People can buy a game and then hate it. I suspect a lot of people who bought the game will be disappointed with it. There will obviously be people who like it too, but I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with their purchases.
On the one hand, I admire how Randy Pitchford sticks by his guns. On the other hand, I'm none too pleased that Gearbox and 2K have positioned DNF as anything other than nostalgia bait. Sixty dollars is way too much to ask for the contents of a time capsule.
Game was gonna sell no matter what, and Take-Two knew this. I don't see a particularly long tail on this one, but it will make a good amount of cash based of the name and messed up legacy. Gearbox is probably glad because they can finally move forward with the franchise, and hopefully produce something of quality with the license.
I'm sure plenty of people bought it as a nostalgia appeal or a curiosity piece, just as I'm sure there is someone, somewhere who still finds Duke Nukem funny. In any case, I'm sure that in a month or two, there will be a lot of used copies of DNF at my local gamestop.

As much as I'm a knuckle dragging dumbass for enjoying it.Okay that's fine. Am I supposed be a caviar-eating elitist for not buying it, now?

I bet I'll probably enjoy the game, but there's just not enough offered to warrant a full purchase for me. This is very much a "go to someone's place and play" game for me.
Oh yeah, don't pay full price. That's my only regret with buying this game since I see a $20 price tag in it's future.@briangodsoe said:

Triptych had the single player content locked some time back if you look at the Duke timeline that is unlocked as an extra after you beat the game.
Wow, isn't that a bit of an overreaction to a tweet that was in no way meant to offend the people who did not buy the game?Okay that's fine. Am I supposed be a caviar-eating elitist for not buying it, now?
I just hope Gearbox does a GOOD game with this license now that they finally put out the shined-up 3D Realms project. I don't want to believe that the company that made Borderlands and its amazing DLC has lost its touch.

Someone is Buthurt -> Make a better game next time.
Well, he does have a point. You're about as likely to find a deep, meaningful narrative in Duke Nukem as you are to find a message of any substance in a Ke$ha song.
And frankly, with the way it sounds like the game has been selling, Pitchford is ultimately right. People are snapping the game up regardless of the shitty reviews.
