So the first part of the latest Bonus Round has been posted, which is still my favourite gaming show (not that I really watch anything else). To my surprise, it turns out Jeff is on there, along with Pachter and Andy McNamara.

I've just finished watching and it's good stuff as I had expected. The first segment is all about Sony.

So this is just a heads-up for all you folks. Watch it here, and get hyped for e3.

*I had issues watching the video on that webpage using firefox and had to disable adblock plus to get the video running. Also didn't realise that I could just embed the video, so here you go!

    Part One - Sony

    Part Two - Microsoft

    Part Three - Nintendo

Part Four - The 3rd Parties

Last week was the the pre-E3 event. A select group from various outlets went to see at least most of the games that will appear at E3. It's all embargoed, but they can start writing coverage that will be posted as soon as they are able to. Otherwise there are just too many games to cover if they start during E3.

This bonus round is just capitalising on the people that were already there around LA, so it's convenient and easy to gather guests.

They have to realize that 3D TVs won't be mainstream until 10 years from now (or possibly slightly sooner) when they'll be at an affordable price.  I can't see any normal person caring enough about stuff popping out of the screen to pay out the ass for televisions capable of it, costing anywhere over $1500 or so.

    HDTV is only mainstream NOW.
Even so, most content providers are still not broadcasting in HD.

predictions are putting 3dtvs mainstream by about 2013....its going to be a standard feature in all hdtvs available by then.

Sony is doing the right thing by backing it now and helping to ensure it's success. Everyone doubted them with blu-ray remember?

Bit slow to the draw on this one as I was busy yesterday, but the third part is now up, covering Nintendo.

They talk about what you'd expect: Zelda, the 3DS, Vitality Sensor, etc.

As before, i've updated the OP if you want to see the rest of the show thus far.

That was pretty good.  I think Giant Bomb could use a discussion video show like this on occasion.  G4TV's Feedback with Adam Sessler is evolving into this, as well, and I'd like to see GB's version.  Last year at E3 they had some footage posted in their hotel room that displayed a potential but it was never followed up. Too bad because it could be kind of neat.  Anyway, Jeff was cool and Pachter was less grating than usual, so I give it a thumbs-up.

I'll second this. I used to love watching the GiantBomb videos on my PS3 but now the internet browser is too outdated or something. I must have watched well over 200 videos on my PS3 because I wanted to see them on my TV and let other people watch them too without having to gather around my laptop. Here's hoping that the PS3 will be able to play GB videos again.

Who the fuck is this Michael Pachter idiot and how does he have a job.

"Netflix on the PSP2?" I mean, I wouldn't rule it out, but what's the reasoning? That because of their deal with Sony, they're gonna put it on the PS3? Fuckin' Microsoft was the first game company they made a deal with, and they've had the longest run on the 360. Every console can Netflix it up now. How has Sony's deal been "very profitable" for them any more than the others have been?

And what's this shit about WiiHD? No of course not you big idiot. Nintendo committed to this shit and god damn it they are not gonna waffle in the wind like other companies. Sure, they made a mistake in assuming that HD wouldn't become as prevalent as it has, and hell yeah they made a mistake in underestimating the value of online multiplayer and the online experience, but they have a gameplan and they are sticking to it.

Microsoft and Sony want their piece of the motion control pie and they're getting into it real late in the game, after Nintendo basically dominated the market for four years and has so much market penetration that it's basically a game of catch-up for second place. Nintendo are making money hand over fist every single month and turn in millions of dollars in profits without doing a single fucking thing differently. Why would they now announce a new console just for an HD upgrade that clearly doesn't matter to little kids or grandparents or the people who like to play Mario games? What would they gain?

Nintendo's predictive powers certainly have to be honed before the next generation rolls around, but I don't think they should be taking advice from some jerk in a cheap suit proclaiming that THIS is correct and any deviation from my mighty predictions is FOLLY, SIR. FOLLY OF THE WORST KIND.

In summary: Michael Pachter is a dumb butt.

Final part is up covering the third parties and potential games of the show.

It's a short one, without much substance to it. It's also seeming a bit more dated now, since a lot of info has come out since it was filmed.

surprised to see Keighley saying he doesnt think Arkham 2 will be at the show (maybe he meant playable), and Andy Mac saying "i know" (and he probably does), kind of a bummer if they dont show some gameplay at least in trailer form, I dont want just another cgi trailer :/

Man, Andy McNamara's non-committal stance on every question he's asked is really irritating. Pretty much everything the guy says is either obvious ("There's going to be some games from some well known developers"), impenetrably vague ("I know one big game that we're going to put on our cover"), or simply uncreative (picking Portal 2 as a game of show candidate when prompted by the host).

He gives the answers I would have expected Pachter to give. But Pachter, despite looking like he came home from a hard day at the bank to find his kids doing a TV show, gave surprisingly solid answers.

@Olivaw:  So he's wrong for having an opinion that differs from that of Nintendo Executives?

I happen to agree with him. The PS3 Move is essentially the WiiHD that Nintendo should have done, why would someone buy a Wii when they can get a system that plays Blu-Ray and has the exact same casual appeal. Or even a 360 which will take the physical controls out of the picture with Natal?

Michael Pachter is a smart guy and it is his job to make predictions based on information. He likely knows a lot more of what is going on behind the scenes than you or I ever will. No, he's not always right and I disagree with a great number of his predictions myself. But by no means is he a 'dumb butt' because he disagrees with Nintendo.

Here's what's wrong with that supposition:

    Wii is 199.95
    PS3 + Move bundle is 399.95

That's a two hundred dollar difference. Why do you think people who care about casual games care about blu-ray and high definition stuff? And what makes you think someone who has already bought a Wii for casual games would buy a PS3 for the same casual games for four hundred dollars? After all, a lot of people have bought a Wii. A lot more than people who have bought a PS3.

Nintendo's success so far has been based around a number of factors; low price point, a big initial marketing push, word of mouth, easy setup, slick aesthetic, and a focus on simple easy to play games. The idea that all Sony or Microsoft need to do to make boatloads of cash is recreate the Wii's control scheme or get rid of controllers entirely is asinine, and I don't understand it at all, let alone Pachter's idea that Wii HD is a necessary move for Nintendo to make.

@Olivaw:  The difference being is that the PS3 WILL get cheaper. And I never said that people who already have a Wii will run out and buy a PS3, but the new market of console less casuals trying to get into gaming is still pretty large as there will always be new young people getting their first console. I know a lot of people who are not 'gamers' but do own consoles and when I talk to them about what system they bought (most of them have a PS3) it comes down to the Blu-Ray and free online basically. Do most of them own Blu-Ray's? No. Do they play online a lot? No. But essentially when someone who knows nothing about games goes into a store and has a choice between playing casual mario games or playing casual games AND GTA or MW, they are far more likely to choose the latter. People tend to like shiny things

The thing is that Sony and Microsoft WILL make boatloads of cash by appealing to the casual market that has been dominated by the Wii. The ONLY thing the Wii has going for it that the PS3 and 360 don't also have are easy to use motion controls and a library of first party games to support it (as well as the low price point for Sony, the 360 is pretty close to the Wii now). When Natal and Move come out they are likely to have a whole bunch of not only first party, but also third party support which is something Nintendo has largely lacked over the course of this generation of consoles.
