On the most recent Bombcast, Ryan mentions reading up on Dead Space on Wikipedia after hearing news about the sequel. It got me thinking why he didn't just look here for it. The Dead Space page on this site is very detailed and similar in length to the one you'll find on Wikipedia. He would have gotten the information that he was looking for on here as well. I know that when I want to learn something about a game that this is the first place I look so why wouldn't someone that works here do the same?
Do the staff members lack faith in the wiki?
he probably just googled it and clicked on the first result. also, if you're looking for something specific, you have to sift through everything else (big titles usually have a ton of stuff). just a guess though...

I think they should put it place special rewards ( unique avatars, the ability to have a signature etc) to promote good wiki contributions, I have been trying to do some stuff on the wiki mainly about Dark age of Camelot because the page was pretty much empty and it just takes awhile since most of the people on this site fall into either a very young demographic and the older crowd of us who have jobs and writing articles about games with no real tangible benefit just isn't a huge priority, if they could figure out a way to make it something people WANT to do besides the few who really put work into it because they love the site then it would be alot better than it is.
I'll show you an example of why I use the wiki using some good old ancient Greek logic.
Having a page for the game Stroker is awesome.
Giantbomb has a page for the game Stroker.
Therefore, Giantbomb is awesome.
I sometimes forget about the wiki here because wikipedia is a sort of a relfex for everything

" The wiki is being neglected by the staff since a while already. "Imo they got caught up with all the other features on the site
I use the site but in most cases, the pages have little to no info whereas I'm usually always guaranteed something on Wikipedia. Although I'm doing my part to help this wiki, like number 10 on the site!
The wiki was a brilliant Idea from the start,
1( It's basically a database of games, They came from GS, That has been around for over ten years, they worked on most of the site, they can't get their IP back, so one way to be able to get a vast database of all things game related is to have the Wiki,
2( It's a brilliant business model for these guy's, they don't need to pay/spend time themselves typing, editing, correlating content,
The way's it has been neglected,
1( there was a blog, earlier this year by a Wiki Mod by the name of endogene, While it was full of pomp, if you actually read the thing, what he was saying is that the Wiki was being Neglected by the staff, I think that the Staff must think that the database is big enough for them to step out of it, They want to focus on other business models, mainly videos, and trying to make a more personal experience for the members, so that we come to the site more often, then that is a draw for advertisers, and good for them, I like the content they produce,
2( I see people like Marino and StarfoxA, and I think that's really cool, they put alot of effort into that, most of the pages are really well written, and I'm happy for them to get their little box stating, Marino is the biggest supplier of content, Good for them, but, I think there should be more of an incentive,
3( there is still a hell of alot of work that needs to be done on it, It's been a year and a bit, And I just created pages for Mitsubishi, Nissan and Honda, If those big brands haven't been created yet, what else apart from DBZ and MW2 hasn't?
I attempt not to use wikipedia since its run by massive sperger neckbeards who nanny the pages the sit on day after day even if the info is blatantly wrong. Its the curse of all wikis and one I'm sure has effected the one here. I did some stuff on the Freespace 2 entry and then someone else came and did a vastly superior job which was fucking A.
However this being a gaming site there is always going to be a huge amount of bias, for instance the PC release part of the MW2 page was laced with personal opinions and feelings about the game, this happens on wikis too.
In short staff are right not to have faith in the wiki but noone should have faith in any wiki (especially wikipedia between its sperging admins and vandals galore its a crock of shit), they should only be used as a springboard for finding more information.
Yeah but that's the problem, instead of focusing on the message he was trying to say, everyone focused on the dick he made himself look like, If you actually moved past that, he made valid points, Do I condone his dickishness, No, But I wish that people would have looked more closely at the message he tried to break across, instead of
I am Endogène!
Hmm. As it happens I have been checking GiantBomb first when I want to search for games - I think it's probably because I just feel more at home on this site and I love how everything's connected together with all the achievements, lists, forums, concept pages etc. I know that many of the pages are really lacking though, which is sad.
I still love the wiki part of GB and would love it to be more of a feature than it is at the moment. I should go back to adding some more stuff - there's a few pages I've recently come across that I reckon I know enough about to be able to write something decently for, but I think I probably reached a point before that when I'd added content to most of the stuff that I knew a lot about.
We need more cool concept pages and lists (but then again I have no easy way of knowing what and where the best ones are).
I at least try to check GB, But the search function is still slightly shit, So After awhile I just get frustrated, Plus, as I said earlier, there is a Halla work yet to be done,
@Tebbit:
I wish I knew how to use the Smiley system, I would totally steal Citizen Kane's Man with top hat smiley, this situation calls out for it.
