Many people say that 2009 nice is a great year for gaming. But do you guys remember 2007? That year was ridiculous. I mean there were so many awesome games that came out that year. COD4, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Metroid Prime 3, Rock Band, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect and Crysis. I'm sure there are even more.
I haven't been around for that long. But I don't think I have ever seen a better year for gaming, than in 2007.
What do you guys think?
2007 - Best year for gaming, ever?
I don't think so. Was it a great year? Yes. In fact, probably the best year of the decade. But there will never be a year to top 1998. Ocarina of Time. Baldur's Gate. Tekken 3. Starcraft. Banjo-Kazooie. Fallout 2. Pokemon Red/Blue. Metal Gear Solid. Half-Life. Grim Fandango. Soulcalibur in Japanese arcades.
When will 1998 be topped?
NEVER!

Yeah, I think 1998 will always be the one to beat but 2007 was great and 2008 for that matter. 2009 has been the weakest year for me in a long, long time.
I'd put 1998 at the top of the list, too. And I think you can make a good argument for 2001. Look at the list of games that year:
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Ico
- GTA: III
- Conker's Bad Fur Day
- Final Fantasy X
- Paper Mario
- Gran Turismo 3
- Max Payne
- Golden Sun
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Project Gotham Racing
- Super Monkey Ball
- Pikman
- FreQuency (predecessor to all guitar hero/rock band games)
- Devil May Cry
- Silent Hill 2
- Advanced Wars
- Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- Super Smash Brothers Melee
- Phantasy Star Online

I don't think 2007 is anywhere near the best. 1993 and 1994 were great.
93 had Doom, Secret of Mana, Myst, MOO, Link's Awakening, Return to Zork, Star Fox, Sim City 2000, Mario All Stars, VF1...
94 had Super Metroid, DKC, Daytona USA, Tie Fighter, Rise of the Triad, Doom 2, Wing Commander 3, Sonic 3, Earthworm Jim, Tekken, Marathon, Jazz Jackrabbit, Darkstalkers, Heretic, Jagged Alliance, System Shock, FF6...
Hell even 95 was pretty damn good, and 96 too!
I definitely don't think 2007 was the best.
2004 was pretty awesome. It had Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Burnout 3, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Ninja Gaiden, World of Warcraft, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Pikmin 2, Far Cry, Counter-Strike: Source, Metroid: Zero Mission, ESPN NFL 2K5, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Rome: Total War, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Doom 3, Psi-Ops, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords, Katamari Damacy, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Fable, Jak 3, James Bond 007 - Everything or Nothing, Fight Night 2004, Dead or Alive Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords Adventures, Need for Speed Underground 2, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Star Wars: Battlefront, SingStar, Mortal Kombat: Deception, The Suffering, Alien Hominid...
Yeah, I think 2004 may be a winner. Now some of those games I'm not a huge fan of, but regardless, looking at those titles, I think it might be safe to say 2004 was possibly the biggest year ever for video games.
" COD4, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Metroid Prime 3, Rock Band, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect and Crysis. "Maybe my tastes are much different than those of hoi polloi, but none of those games interest me in the slightest. Steel Panthers came out in 1995 and Close Combat 3 came out in '98. So I suppose those were good video game years for me.

All good and well, but the majority of those games are sequels. So it was a good year but, not that original.
07 was amazing agreed tc, but for me 2008 was even better. I played more 08 games(hour-wise at least)this year actually than the 09 releases....so many games I really enjoyed last year plus the ones I eventually got to finish this year. And btw, 2010 could take the cake w/all the tremendous stuff coming, and so many of them due in just the first quarter.
2007; because of great games such as Call of Duty 4 and new IPs like Bioshock and Assassin's Creed were released. That year was arguably the most influential for me in a long time. *shrugs* Its entirely subjective, because for example I could care any less about the games from 1998 due to its genres that don't appeal me or something.
