Only problem I have is Unfinished has negative connotations (with the un prefix), at least to me. A more positive spin for a title could be As It Develops, In Progress, In Utero. Something that denotes growth towards final rather than something that is not final.
A Few Words About Unfinished
More video is always good. Not a fan of the title, but that's a quibble I could get over easily if it's good content.
I think i have to agree with some of the others when i say i dont really like the "unfinished" name it does seem to have a negative connotation. "Early look" or "Crackin wise with Vin Dawg N' the Boyz" seem like better names.
Yeah, I suppose this came about from a discussion on the forums and long periods of AAA games missing from the release calendar.
So a new format open to what ever is good. I think it should be more like a free unpro fridays with a little more serious tone. Group of folks in the studios with someone who has actually played around with the early access game. Since they can sometimes be dense.
I know this may seem like more divulgence into more semantics, but what about games like Broken Age? Would that be appropriate for Unfinished, or does it fall into a episodic category? In fact, does episodic count as unfinished?
I think it will be similar to how they did The Walking Dead. The quicklook was done a day or two after the first episode was released but the review was done when the game was complete.
It's a good idea, but the name is pretty dry.
I don't suppose you considered the title Work In Progress? That sounds more like a Giant Bomb feature to me.
Agreed. Good idea, but the name needs work. Much too unimaginative and stale. Doesn't fit Giant Bomb to me.
And "quick look" is? The title does a very good job at setting up what you are about to watch.
Props to you guys. Makes sense and should be fun to see you cover the odd stuff showing up in these kind of releases.
Sounds good to me!
Only thing I'd add is that I'm not a fan of having multiple games in 1 video, without good indexing. I've often found that I'm interested in only 1 or 2 games in an Unprofessional Friday and it can be a bit difficult to jump to those specific game(s). I realize that's the format for UF and I'm fine with that but I wouldn't want that annoyance to expand to this new format as well.
Anyway, good to see you guys continue to innovate!
I don't care what things are called, I care about pure content. The more content the Giantbomb staff are freed up to produce is all good in my books, finding a name for something that can allow them to feel better about creating content on it makes me very happy.
Also I agree that in the past these types of games only being covered in longer live shows was weird, since I tend to not be able to watch 100% of each show each week, usually only a bit here and there and only sometimes do I get to sit down and watch most or all of a show, and I feel sucky cause I could have missed something that I would have enjoyed seeing simply because of the crazy huge amount of content in those live shows. Potentially breaking some of that off into more specific chunks of content is super rad, ensures I have a larger chance to see and keep track of all of it, and it sounds like just straight up more of it will exist as a whole.
CHEERS AND HIP HIP HURRAH.
Alternative names:
1. "To be or not to be"
2. "What it was"
3. "The Forest Primeval"
4. "Progress Report"
5. "Sonogram"
Love the idea. Go for it.
Will this be retroactive? Or just going forward? Would something like the Don't Starve or Mercenary Kings Quick Looks be considered Unfinished?
Yeah, and what about Battlefield 4?
Cold. Ice cold.
Good! Definitely clears up some weirdness about having several Quick Looks, potentially, for just one game.
Sounds okay to me, hopefully it will sort out the issue of people whining in the comments of quick looks.
It's weird how Brad was arguing during the GOTY deliberations that Early Access does a little bit of disservice to unfinished games because there's no telling how unfinished they really are and how that could discourage people from playing the game and now we'll have a feature covering them. I'm not complaining or anything, I just find it weird, that's all.
And MIST is a better name.
@truthtellah: sounds fucking refreshing!!!
or reminds me of the horrific creatures from the stephen king story... :\
Good on you guys for figuring out how to deal with this flood of unfinished games for sale. People defiantly need to see if some of these are worth their time. In the few Early Access games and such I've bought they have ran the range of 'solid base with details just needing to be fleshed out' to 'hardly a game yet' and I would like to see the state of things firsthand and how the developers are working on it before shelling out cash for what is essentially a preorder.
Maybe we do three games in one video with cameras and a set.
Artemis Bridge Simulator!
Great things, ya'll.
Oh fuck yes.
Nice. I was hoping for a look at the Next Car Game, I actually bought it, and it's pretty cool. The car physics are awesome! It also comes with a separate dl of a tech demo that I really hope they include in the unfinished look. I messed around with both pieces last night for a couple hours and was surprised how much fun I had with it.
Anything that means more video coverage from the bombcrew is pretty much 100% pure happy-drugs to me, so yay!
