Giant Bomb is one of the most unique and insightful video game websites I have ever found had the pleasure of giving $50 a year to. I have found myself more and more drawn to it because they spend a considerable amount of time talking about games that would not be discussed or given much attention on a competing website. Giant Bomb, with "Quick Looks", "Thursday Night Throwdown", and the "Bombcast", Giant Bomb is able to offer significantly more coverage to specific games that otherwise might fall through the cracks. I thought I would use the forums as a way of expressing my thanks to the Giant Bomb coverage and share with you the games that I have bought as a result of the attention they have received. I'm also curious what games you have purchased as a result of the praise or unique insight Giant Bomb gave to them, that wasn't found on any other gaming website.

My games are:

  • Iron Brigaide/Trenched
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Gotham City Imposters
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
  • Dark Souls
  • Renegade Ops
  • Pac Man CE DX

El Shaddai, in an indirect way. said the game would confuse me, and he was more right than he could possibly know.

Braid is the only game that comes to me. Ryan's review poured praise upon it, and a user who was with me on the moderation team at the time told me I needed to play it. What do you know? I love it!

I intend to buy Iron Brigade if it comes to PC and I still want to buy Persona 4, so if I ever do get to buy both of those the sole reason will be Giant Bomb. That's all I can think of right now.

That's a tough one.

They got me to buy Skyrim day one when I intended to pick it up super cheap long after release. They also got me to download the demo for Gal Gun (would have bought it if it was region free, fortunately it wasn't, cause that woulda been a dumb buy). I'm sure they got me into something but I typically know what I want to buy long before Giantbomb does any coverage of it.

Edit: Oh right, Bastion. They got me into that.

Majesty 2 for me. It was on sale on Steam and I really liked the quick look (watched it again before purchasing it). I'm not that deep in it but from what I've played I can say it's pretty fun.

Bastion, Saints Row, Super Meat Boy, Rayman, Persona, 2, 3, and 4....I could go on, but you know what? There's very few games I wouldn't have bought, or even heard of if not for GB. I love this site.

I was going to pick up one new game for the winter break and GB convinced me to go with Saints Row: The Third. I am so glad I did as it has changed my life.

The big one that I can think of that I never would have even thought about was the Introversion pack on Steam. They really praised the games in it when it came up during a sale so I picked it up. Turns out Introversion is one of my favorite developers.

Other than than, I can't think of much that I wasn't already at very least interested in. I guess I probably wouldn't have played Dead Space without hearing their praise.

Pretty much none.  I have a pretty clear idea of exactly what games push my buttons and what doesn't, and don't feel the need to go outside those boundaries.

Actually, there is one.  L.A. Noire.  That's pretty much it.

  • Red Faction: Guerilla
  • Bastion
  • Dark Souls (well this quicklook got me back into Demon's Souls, which led to my Dark Souls addiction)
  • Rock of Ages
  • Renegade Ops
  • Killzone 2 & 3 (and didn't really like either of them that much, fool me twice kinda thing)
  • La Noir (again not always a good game)
  • Saint Row: The Third (but sometimes a great game)
  • list probably goes on, hell I bought a new pc and hooked it to a TV because of those guys.

  • Infinite Space (despite Jeff totally missing some key gameplay mechanics in the Quick Look)
  • Ghost Trick
  • Zeno Clash
  • Singularity (still haven't played it yet, though)
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent (turns out I'm a huge sissy, and only got like 2 hours into it. It's so good, though)
  • Flotilla
  • Frozen Synapse
  • Civilization V
  • Bastion
  • Rayman Origins

Honestly, it's not so much that they're selling me on the game, as much as it's the mere act of them exposing me to game I wouldn't have otherwise known anything about (for example, I read so few articles/reviews about Civ V that I wouldn't have known they streamlined the UI significantly if not for the Quick Look). Though admittedly sometimes their attitude towards a game can be infectious.

Definitely Saints Row and Super Meat Boy and Q.U.B.E. Also, the Mass Effect series. The praise I heard for 2 made me go back and play them both.

No game in particular apart from Deadly Premonition. I can't play it though since I don't have a 360 and importing a PS3 copy is too much of a hassle. That aside, everything else is on my own accord. I still greatly appreciate the QLs and ERs though. Massively.

Skyrim, Bastion and Chrono Trigger. I would've avoided Skyrim if not for the Quick Look since I haven't really gotten into Bethesda games in the past, I would've never heard of Bastion and I just probably would never have got around to playing Chrono Trigger if not for the desire to get ahead of the Endurance Run.

Saints Row the Third and Bastion are the two that come to mind. Definitely wouldn't have given SR a sniff had it not been for the outpouring of praise from these guys.

Hasn't clicked with me so far, but I'm going to jump back into it soon and take another swing at it.

I wasn't really interested in Skyrim (having played Oblivion in the past), then the marathon happened... I ending up buying it soon after release. Can't say I regret it.

I also bought Shadows of the Damned and Rock of Ages because of GB. If I hadn't seen how good/crazy they were in the QLs, I might have skipped over them.

Oh man. Probably most of my collection has been influenced by Giant Bomb in one way or another, I guess. But it's safe to say I would not have bought Geometry Wars, Bastion or Iron Brigade if not for the GB coverage. There's probably heaps more, but it's hard to tell. Giant Bomb definitely made me crave to play the shit out of Saints Row The Third, but I might have picked the game up regardless.

Most recently, thanks to Patrick, I decided to buy Darksiders again on 360, after selling my PS3 copy before finishing it - back when I was a poor student who needed store credit to buy a game I can't even remember. No regrets. Game's awesome.

Agreed. Giant Bomb has introduced me to lot of pretty cool games that I might never have looked into otherwise.

  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Bastion
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum
  • Darkspore
  • Hard Reset
  • Sanctum

I'm particularly grateful for having been introduced to Arkham Asylum and Darkspore. Man, I love those games.
