Like all of you guys, I love video games. However, when I want to check out a certain retro game, for example, Wolfenstein 3D, it literally makes me sick and I can't play it. For some reason, the pixelated graphics, the movement, I don't know but I feel dizzy and nauseated from playing it. Same thing happened when I was watching Doom and Minecraft. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just crazy and weird? Does anyone else have a situation where they physically cannot play a game no matter how good that game may be?

Forza with some other racers, it seems like the screen is just moving forward and you aren't driving.  It's like the track is a treadmill, and the harder you push on gas, the faster the track moves.

Doom 2 used to do that to me, and Half Life 2. I think it's something to do with monitor refresh rates or something since I tried them with a different setup later and I was fine. Then I tried HL2 again recently and got the same nausea on new hardware. *shrugs* Perhaps just down to environmental factors, but it's certainly odd.

I was trying my hardest to play Kane & Lynch 2 with the camera sway on but after about an hour I had to turn it off it was making me get really twitchy. The Death Star level at the end of Lego Star Wars 2 literally made me feel sick because of the noise and flashing images... that was no fun at all.

I get it with most valve games, eg: Half Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal (Even more). I heard that they have the view bracket set to like 70 degrees as opposed to 90 like most shooters meaning everything's a little more crazy.

I've only felt sick after one game, and that was the original Half-Life. I suspect it had nothing to do with the game however, and I was probably just catching some bug as it only happened once.

Half Life, the original. I played it on... some console. PS1? (Just looked it up and I guess it was on PS2, so yeah, probably played it on PS2. I'll leave my original post as is for humiliation.)

Anyways, it totally made me want to throw up. I may have already been sick before I started so I bet that's what caused it. But man, that was BAD.

I never had it happen until I played Brutal Legend, something about driving around for more than 20minutes at a time made me really sick to my stomach.

The first level of Kingdom Hearts. The rest was good but I actually can't stand the first level. I threw up the first time I played it!

Watching the Kane & Lynch 2 quick look almost made me vomit. The shaky camera was awful.

A few years ago I was in the Wizard 101 beta (an MMO for kids, and since I was a kid (12ish) at the time, there's nothing wrong with that), it was kinda fun in an overly simplistic kid friendly way. Anyway, if I played it for more than half an hour I would get really bad headaches, which was pretty strange.

The Ravenholm demo of "Half Life 2" (PC) dark scenes, crappy framerate on my PC and not being used to playing fast FPS on a monitor might have contributed.
Drakan 2 (PS2): The camera in that game is just really ugly and a good way to give you motion sickness.
Metroid Prime (GC): The HUD and helmet, the small field of view and a whole lot of jumping in that game just gives me a headache.

Honorable mention: Descent 2 with a VR helmet, not something you ever would want to play for long, but it just looks so damn cool :)

There's a wide range of games that can get to me - sometimes I can just feel a little ill, others it's really bad, I start sweating a great deal and have to go and lie down, not just a matter of swapping to another game.

It all started for me with the likes of Ico and Dark Cloud, but anything with a frisky camera or head bob is a definite contender.

@PixieNinja: I definitely get the sweating going on if I play for too long and it just absolutely awful especially on the couch. Head bob sounds terrifying to me.

PS. Also, HL2 totally did this to me as well.

COD3. The screen is constantly shaking. Reloading? IT'S SO FUCKING INTENSE THE SCREEN BOBBING UP AND DOWN MY GUY LOOKS DOWN AT THE GUN LOOKS BACK UP SCREEN SHAKING AND BOBBING. First game I ever stopped playing due to the fact that I got nauseous after playing it for more than 10 minutes.

This is a very very rare thing but two games that I can remember have given me motion sickness: Super Mario Galaxy and Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.

I think K&L 2 is for obvious reasons and as for SMG I think it was just getting used to moving around the spheres.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl's head bobbing made me feel like I was on a boat. Severe swinging from side to side when you're just walking and no easy way to turn it down or off in the menus. Twenty or so minutes in I was very nauseous and ready to vomit.

Marathon 2: Durandal on XBLA.  I got a headache after playing for more than about half an hour or so.  I heard they patched the game to fix it, but I'm not really willing to try again.

The only game that ever made me queasy, was Wolfenstein 3D. That was back when I first started playing games, so maybe I've become immune to the it by now.

The original Killzone.

I've never felt sick playing a game before, but something about KZ seriously made me almost barf. Couldn't play more than a few minutes of it.

I know it happens to some people, I've heard quite a few stories of motion sickness happening to people playing Mirror's Edge or Portal but I have heard of it happening with much older titles as well, personally it's never been a problem for me.

I guess if you grew up with retro games it makes you feel less sick than seeing a whole 1080 pixels on one screen (not that I don't like advancing technology).

Predictably, it only took three minutes from the start of this valid thread for smartasses to just start naming games they don't like.

On topic, I don't think this has ever happened to me, though I knew a non-gamer back in the day who got really dizzy trying to play Doom.
