just so you guys know, theres some crazy new deals at gamestop that just started. bionic commando, prince of persia, and force unleashed all have been discounted to 19.99. plus their new!

just giving a heads up if you havent picked those up yet. i might just have to get force unleashed, i always thought that it is not worth $60, but 19.99 is pretty much totally a great deal. :]

well bionic commando was $60 before this, so thats $40 off, i thought that was not to bad. ok well it wasnt the greatest game but still...

After 10 years of working in wholesale/retail and seeing the ins and outs of how that business works I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that It's never a deal with any retailers.

(1) when retailers give the public "sales," those "sales" are always calculated and are never at a loss to the retailer, or
(2) that the sale items were previously overpriced, and the new "sale" price more accurately reflects what the market would pay?

Seems like they are trying to put these out as deals but more often than not, it just seems like the prices of those games have dropped and Gamestop is trying to push them as if they are the ones who call the shots on the price. Force Unleashed at 20 bucks? That seems like the price you could get anywhere for that piece of shit game. Look at the other games, either they are old enough to drop that much in price and didnt sell well, ala bionic commando. Not a deal, just normal sales price.

Force Unleashed is pretty rad. I think it was one of the more over-looked games last year. The combat can get a little weird sometimes, but its cutscenes are some of the most well-produced in games of the past few years.

And Bionic Commando for $20? Dude, that's a deal.

@aylien: 1) yes. through there are exceptions, Sometimes retailers will sell at a loss when an they want to get rid of excess merchandise that they know will stick like a fish bone in the throat. Its kinda of funny. I never worked in the gaming retailers so I can't tell for sure how much retailers pay for games. I am guessing it costs them about 30-40 dollars on each game, but I could be wrong. Plus the fact that any used game they sell is pure profit. Gamestop does it, Game Crazy does it. every game retailer that sells used games does it.

Yeah, Force Unleashed is worth at least 20 bucks just for the story and such imo.

@aylien: Also, a retailer that has a "crazy sale" on a new or unused product has a special wholesaler buyers arrangement with the publisher, something like of a free promotion of the game in return for a special deal on a stock. Every retailer pays differently, its never a locked wholesale price. When negotiating a purchase with hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, pieces of product the buying process can get extremely complex.

yea i just bought the limited edition prince of persia for 360 for $20, although i dont really care about the bonus disk.

the thing about gamestop is that some of the workers there dont know what the hell their talking about!
