Giant Bomb IRC Chatroom has moved to a new server.
"FAIL! I got banned for the channel for saying "/me sniggers". What a joke. :(No, you got kicked for saying it because the n-word wasn't listed as "single" on the list at the time, like it is now. Which was to prevent people from trying to get around the kick by adding things around it. Then to be cute you immediately rejoined and repeated it. Which brought on the ban to prevent the stuff Vaxadrin was doing yesterday where he just kept rejoining and saying things to get kicked repeatedly and flood the room. It only bans if someone repeatedly does it something like 4 or 5 times, so if you're intent on being stupid then you're going to live with a ban until an op sees it.

There's a difference between being funny and being a nuisance.
After some channel op discussion we've decided to disable to "badwords filter" in favor of users using the /ignore function if they find something offensive. Ops are only going to step in if people are being excessive with it.
So in the future if those of you who have complained to Hulk in the past about things people are saying, if and when you decide to come back to the channel and are offended by things people are saying, type /ignore (their name here).

"It's not working for me (can't open the page)"Hulk doesn't really know what to tell you. Assuming you're using Chatzilla right? The link in the first post should work.
"Is there any way we can get the link edited into the "Community is Still a Threat" thread? "I don't really want to have to start maintaining that thread...I sent a PM to MattBodega to see what is going on with it, it's been far too long since it's been updated. If one of the other mods want to edit it they can, I just don't really want to set that precedent. It's his responsibility to keep it current.

The server is having some problem with leaf hosts shutting off some of their servers for no reason. As a result it's screwed up the network and split each server. It's like a permanent netsplit. /server chat.
So just wait a day or two and it should be fine.

"Nobody is able to connect. All attempts to join DeltaAnime have failed. I'm pretty sure they finally went under as a server (last website update in 2005? seriously?)."It has nothing to do with the last time that the ircd was updated. That type of thing is irrelevent. There are servers from 1997 that are never updated beyond the point they are started because there is simply no need to do so. As for their website, it has all the basic information they want to post. There's no reason to add meaningless updates just for the sake of updating.

"Was DeltaAnime really necessary?"Yes it was. No other major servers use a competent nickserv service. Two of the ops were familiar with DeltaAnime and knew that it had a properly setup nickserv service, so we made the move there.
Competent how? I know a lot of gaming related networks use AuthServ or related (GameSurge, QuakeNet), which doesn't reserve nicknames. I do know however that Freenode's nickserv lets you ghost kill users that are using your name and not logged in. I don't believe it automatically deals with impostors however.
Only issue is Freenode is mostly focused on the Open Source community, so you'd have to convince them...course Wikipedia has its channels there and considering the wiki-ness of GB...maybe.
me, shawn and lunar are in the chatango i gave. I'll give mod/admin abbilities to hulk if and when he comes on.
WE are all going back to the gamesurge IRC
irc://irc.gamesurge.net/giantbomb
P.S: this is just temporary till deltaanime comes back.
In my post Hulk directed everyone to the server links that are currently working. They have both been re-combined and the services are back up. They are still working on getting the original addy back online. So in the meantime it is chat. until irc.deltaanime.net is back online.
Hulk is actually a little surprised it's all back up so quickly. From what Hulk was told it seemed like it was going to take them a few days to sort things out. At this rate Hulk wouldn't be surprised if everything was completely back to normal by tomorrow.

That's when Carlos recommended DeltaAnime, which is a server he and Johnny5 were already using for a long time and were familiar with. So we made the move there since it had everything we were looking for and more.
