Devil May Cry 3 (not special edition), God of War on God Mode, COD 4 on the hardest difficulty.
Hardest game you've beaten
Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. I beat it a few times on Normal and it was brutal. I then tried to play through on Hard, that didn't go well.
I really don't know. I'm not sure that I play hard games, which is a sad fact unto itself. :( Maybe the Metal Gear games on Extreme? I'm not too sure where that would rank in terms of the hardest games of all time.
" i heard of a lot of hard games but honestly haven't beaten much. i play games for fun not really for the challenge. on the top of my head, the most frustrating periods i had when playing a game was beating GTA:SA. The story missions are whack. "Yeah, GTA:SA needs to be more known for its brutal difficulty. That game was hard in spots!
I'll have to go for Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES), the funny part being that I played this when I must have been something between 10-12 years old. And while I thought that it was challenging, I still finished it in the long run. Now, 15 years later, everyone keeps talking about how crazy batshit insane effin' hard this jetbike sequence, which I take as proof that I must have been a gamer with awesome skills even back then. ;) Another game on the list would be Aero The Acrobat (SNES): One of my favourite games from the SNES era, and I simply cannot understand why no one has come up with the idea to revive the franchise since then.
Oh yes, AND that last mission on Warcraft III. Dear God, THAT was brutal.
Either Yoshi's Island DS or Maximo.
Both are way harder than they look on the box, particularly Yoshi's Island.
It's moments like this i wish i could remember all the games i've played. I'm only 20 but my memory is already frazzled from endless gaming. I guess it would be Call of Duty 2 on veteran on the 360, for the full1000 points. Not that hard compared to some of the stuff people are mentioning i know, but i was damn proud when i finally beat that game and always will be. I play a lot of games but i tend to just stick to normal, so it was a pretty big leap going for that..
I have beaten a ton of really hard games or games on hardest modes. Things like the Devil May cry ones etc etc but the one that always stands out is Jak II god damn that game is hard...unfairly so at points, so, so much trial and error and fluking your way through sections....
But most imprtantly I did it all with a broken controller that sometimes stuck in one direction or buttons just failed to work at times.

You just reminded me of the rage inducing missions in Jak 2. I loved that game and for the most part it wasn't really difficult at all but every once in a while it would throw some brutal, mind melting, stringent time limit on a already difficult mission and it would make me want to break something. The one where you have to hijack (maybe blow up) 5 cruisers around the whole city and you have a very limited amount of time to do so without dying was one of the worst. I really hate time limits in games.
For the most part, I try to avoid overly difficult games because I don't find them fun. Ninja Gaiden on the original xbox was pretty difficult but also seemed somewhat fair. At least that game had a learning curve.
Has to be Battletoads. No saves, 3 piddling continues, the cruellest co-op ever imagined. Just remembering that game......*shudder*
Speaking of hard games, am trucking my way through Demon's Souls now. In a perverse way, am actually enjoying it.
I beat Canabalt >:|
Really though, probably Stuntman? Stuntman is the angriest game ever, an I allready suck at driving games.
Funny nobody's mentioned I Wanna Be The Guy.

said:That's like the hardest game I've played- Or tried to play. I don't think I finished the first level." Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Genesis.....I beat it then never picked it up again..fuck that game. "
Don't know the hardest game I've beaten but for some reason P3 fes the journey was pretty hard for me because I skipped half of the encounters in tartarus and always using my lowest level teammates, it was like 10 times harder than the answer and p4 on expert, damn shit bosses that always kill everyone in 2 turns with aoe.
I think 80% of the bitemarkes on my old SNES Controller comes from this game
Hard to say, I beat a ton of games back in the day, although they weren't "hard" at the time given the relative difficulty of games back then. One might say beating Rygar for the NES seems impossible today, but back then it was no great feat. I used to videotape the endings of games for posterity, I had a few tapes filled by time I stopped doing so.
I guess the one I got the most satisfaction from beating was Mystic Defender for Genesis. The guys I used to compete with on games beat could never seem to do it, and I managed to finally do so. Last Battle was a similar game where nobody I knew ever came close to beating it, so I was the only one I knew that did. A game where you have one life to beat several stages and multiple bosses seems pretty brutal, even back then.
Beating Mike Tyson might count as well, but everyone I know did it, even though I've heard some GB staff say they never did.
I said Nethack earlier in the thread, but I seriously attribute that to luck. I had completely forgot that I finished a playthrough of Deus Ex on Realistic about a month ago. That game broke my spirit so many times, especially in the beginning when you're still a weaksauce with a pea shooter.
