I bought a 360 for Mass Effect 2, a Wii for Silent Hill Shattered Memories.
Has there ever been a game that drove you to purchase a console?

This is probably going to sound terrible...
I bought my PS3 because Unreal Tournament 3.
I did as well. Well I would say I just bought mine earlier than I would have otherwise if not for UT3. Hell nevermind the mediocre game, free cooked mods, and keyboard/mouse support on console? This is when DLC was still mostly a nickel and dime thought, and not a thing. I don't regret it.
Now had I waited til GT5.....
Xbox 360 - Kameo: Elements of Power (and Gears of War to a smaller extent)
Xbox - Halo
GameCube - Soul Calibur 2
I bought a PS2 to play Shadow of the Colossus. It's still one of my all-time favourites. I played it for a short bit on a friends PS2, and was basically thinking "I need to have this as soon as possible". So it was the game I picked up the PS2 with, and my expectations were met, then blown away.
I bought a 360 to play Bioshock when it came out. I actually bought Bioshock before I got the 360. I think I actually played Quake 4 and Gears first though, because I wanted to wait until I was back home to play Bioshock, to give it the right attention.
Well yeah, pretty much all of the consoles I've ever bought. I bought my Game Boy because I wanted to play Pokemon, I bought my N64 because I wanted to play Zelda and Mario, I bought my Gamecube because of Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion, I bought my PS2 because... Huh... Why did I buy a PS2? Kingdom Hearts? Maybe? I bought my DS for Pokemon, I bought my Wii for Super Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy, I bought my PS3 for InFamous and LittleBigPlanet, and I bought my 3DS for Super Mario 3D Land.

The reason I have an Xbox 360 is because I had to have Gears of War. However Home is looking really good and I kind of want a PS3.
Timetravel offers so many perks, but the greatest of all is the benefit of hindsight.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be one of the only games I'll have for the Wii U. I'll be perfectly fine with that.
Gamecube to play Wind Waker (which still is my favorite Zelda, but it was my first one). Still thinking about buying a ps3 for Journey.

Wow, I really didnt think anyone would get me so well.
NES = Super Mario Bros. 3
SNES = Super Mario World
Genesis = Sonic the Hedgehog
PS1 = Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen (seriously)
PS2 = Just bought off the hype of the PS1, really. Got it on launch.
Xbox = Halo
Gamecube = Metroid Prime
Xbox 360 = Oblivion and Ghost Recon.
PS3 = Bought off the hype of the PS2... should have waited on this one.
Wii = Mario Galaxy, sold the system within the year. I've never hated a system more.
PC = bought a new PC/upgraded for the following games, Baldur's Gate, Farcry, Starcraft 2, Witcher 2, and I'll probably upgrade again soon when I see the final specs of the new consoles.
MGS4 made me buy my PS3. I really hope Ground Zeroes doesn't end up being a next generation game, because I don't want to buy a new console until the slim version comes out.
Dissida Final Fantasy got me to buy a PSP. Also Red Dead Redemption and inFamous conviced me to buy a PS3.
Fire Emblem is speaking to me right now for a 3DS. I'd also enjoy Animal Crossing on it when that comes out. Otherwise not sure what I'd really want to play.
