I'm writing a speech about Jeff.

So at school I've been told to write a speech about a person I admire. Now I was going to do Serj Tankian but thought I should go with Jeff Gerstmann. Now the thing I want from your pretty face's are some information on him, I don't care if I know it already I just need to see it all there. I want famous or funny quotes, info on the firing at Gamespot, how long he was there and what he did at Gamespot, upbringing maybe, info on the bombcast and how he has developed GiantBomb.

Yea I was thinking doing it on Serj Tankian, I just thought of Jeff because what he has done and how much of an influence he has on game journalism.

The best way to give a speech about someone you admire is for you to share an emotional connection with said person. Jeff isn't a good choice, nor would his...accomplishments be interesting for a speech. Trust me man, do a speech on someone else.

I would Write about Serj if I were you, If it is a Speech that's what I would do, Not trying to sound disrespectful or anything, but Serj is cooler than Jeff,

Why not pick a game developer you admire? Your alignment is PC, surely there's plenty of info you can find on Gabe Newell.

If Jeff has had a huge effect on your life, like making you think really hard about being a games journalist for the rest of your life or something, I see no problem in writing about him -- it's just that, you know, other people will say "who the hell is this dude?!" If that's not the case, I think it's better to write about someone else, even if you have not a huge personal connection with said person.

Why do any effort when you can ask a question on the internets and make others do it for you.

It's ok if no one knows the person you write this about, but dude, Jeff?  He is funny, a great games critic and has a cool website, but that makes him one of the people you admire most?  It's hard to get help on something like this because no one knows who influences you, but let me tell what i would answer.  This woman I worked for from when I was 16 to 18 is my choice.  I was in a rough patch in my life and she instilled in me self-confidence, respected me like no one else ever had and where other adults seems to demand respect from youth, she earned it rightfully.  She was dying and had every right to stay at home and try and be comfortable, but instead she rode her electric scooter chair to work every day and ran a non-profit, and continued to do so through notes and phone calls from her hospital bed.  She literally only stopped when she died.  Now, we have the same workload as when she was running things herself, but 3 people do it.  In my book, she is someone worth admiring.  Again, Jeff is cool and all but as you don't know him personally I find it really sad if you can't think of anyone better.

This is really weird. Give the speech on Serj instead.

I think I'm now doing it on Serj, and now realise that Jeff is probably not the best choice, sure he's fucking super awesome and I respect him so much, but he hasn't impacted my life enough.  
 
Whereas Serj has inspired me so much to become a better musician (I play drums) but I's love to play with some software and get a little help from people to make a little project. Any case as a New Zealander and Serj living here and part NZer seams more a connection plus if you could choose more than one religion I'd make my own on him.

What's with all the overreactions to this. He's clearly a high school kid doing some meaningless speech about someone he admires. Do you really think the other people in his class will pick people that are any "better" of a choice? Speaking from experience, 90% of the kids will pick their parents, an athlete, someone famous.
