Kotaku has been hacked, change your passwords NOW
[Edit: Deleted Pirate Bay link. I posted the torrent link because it was posted on Gawker's homepage as a news article so I assumed it was fine. Turns out that it was the hackers who posted it, here's some info:

If you use the password on your Kotaku account for anything else, especially the email account linked to it, change it immediately.
So, here we are again with a monster release of ownage and data droppage.
Previous attacks against the target were mocked, so we came along and raised the bar a little. Fuck you gawker, hows this for "script kids"?Your empire has been compromised, Your servers, Your database's, Online accounts and source code have all be ripped to shreds! You wanted attention, well guess what, You've got it now!
Mmm drama.
Thanks for the heads-up, OP. I don't have a Kotaku account though, so I am safe. The internet is really being rocked by the sudden surge of hackings though, unfortunately. Maybe this will bring the hackers to justice, but I doubt it. I don't think linking to a torrent was the best idea either, OP.

"Gawker linked to it on their homepage, so I doubt sticking it on Giant Bomb will affect much.
I think it's hilarious.
Maybe they shouldn't be so high and mighty next time and it might just stay at a 'script-kiddie' level, rather than a 'fuck-your-shit-up' level.
" @TheBlindChessman said:Yeah me neither, but since this blew up I've been trying to get more info to see what exactly happened.Gawker linked to it on their homepage, so I doubt sticking it on Giant Bomb will affect much. "In that case then, yeah, I see what you mean. You can probably tell I don't check Gawker much either. :P "
Why would people be concerned about this? Aren't Kotaku accounts just used for commenting on stories? Excuse my ignorance, I don't have an account on the site.
People on Kotaku are discussing the torrent file here:

Looks like all of the account passwords are indeed in that torrent.
This has affected every Gawker Media site.
Jesus this is bad.
You need an email account to sign up to Kotaku so they've got your email address. If you use the same password for lots of your online stuff then it could be in trouble. If the password for your Kotaku account is the same as the password for the email address you signed up to Kotaku with... well you're fucked." Why would people be concerned about this? Kotaku also allows you to login with a Facebook account. Don't know yet if that is compromised .
lol those kinds of hackers are funny. they always sound so defensive and insecure all the time, always threatening everyone and trying to prove something. they're taunts always sound like some little kid who's trying to stand up for himself "you never listened to me! now it's my turn!"
" Why would people be concerned about this? Aren't Kotaku accounts just used for commenting on stories? Excuse my ignorance, I don't have an account on the site. "If you use the same email/password combo elsewhere, or even worse, the same password for your email. Well, that's not so good.
" @CitizenKane: grounds for topic lock/ban? "No, not really. It's a new story of a major video game website, so I'll let this one roll on through the cycle.
" @CitizenKane: Haha, jesus I love Giantbomb. Even the mods are cool. "We try out best to serve the philosophy of Cool Baby.
Just keep it cool, baby.
Huge props for a heads up. Haven't visited kotaku in years but apperently had an account on there. Changed all the passes.
I'm confused, is the thing these guys stole a live copy of the database that's going to be updated/block out the passwords they currently have?
Going back and changing your gawker site pass isn't going to change anything if you still have the same e-mail/pass for everything else.
=\
