Thanks for the heads-up, OP. I don't have a Kotaku account though, so I am safe. The internet is really being rocked by the sudden surge of hackings though, unfortunately. Maybe this will bring the hackers to justice, but I doubt it. I don't think linking to a torrent was the best idea either, OP.

lol those kinds of hackers are funny.  they always sound so defensive and insecure all the time, always threatening everyone and trying to prove something.  they're taunts always sound like some little kid who's trying to stand up for himself "you never listened to me!  now it's my turn!"

Also, it's not just Kotaku, all of Gawker media has been compromised. So if you have an account on io9 (like me) or LifeHacker or Gizmodo, then you need to change your password as well.

That assumes that I have an account/care about Kotaku.

Awesome, I changed my passwords on EVERYTHING just about 2 weeks ago when Square Enix's member data was partially compromised.  I'm as safe as I'll ever be.

What about banned accounts? Are those still kept in their system? I can't even sign into kotaku to check what password I'm using.

Huge props for a heads up. Haven't visited kotaku in years but apperently had an account on there. Changed all the passes.

I'm confused, is the thing these guys stole a live copy of the database that's going to be updated/block out the passwords they currently have? 
 
Going back and changing your gawker site pass isn't going to change anything if you still have the same e-mail/pass for everything else.

I can't remember if I ever created an account with them. I checked and nothing shows up. But I'm going to change my email password to be on the safe side.
