I know they already mentioned that they were waiting for Sony to open up the service, but I was just wondering how exactly it was not "opened up" already?
No trophy support for GB yet?
It's on Sony's end that's for sure. Snide mentioned that he hoped Sony would open up trophy support so they could use it at GB. I do too.
Sony's Gamer Card is just a generated .PNG (picture, not text) and also doesn't display everything.
Giant Bomb could technically ask us all for our PSN ID Username and Password, then through Giant Bomb Automation could log-in to our PSN Accounts, and then pull the data (not sure if this gives away everything as much as Microsoft's API does though). But I think this is against Sony's EULA. Also, many people may not feel comfortable with inputting their PSN Username and Password into Giant Bomb, especially not over SSL.
Hope this makes sense.
In a news post for Steam achievements, Dave said that they're hoping to integrate trophies and that it might happen by the end of this summer if Sony makes the info available. I believe that was what I read. Anyway, being a PS3-only owner with 300-ish+ trophies, I can't wait. Its an awesome concept and just another great thing about Giant Bomb. :)
Sony definitely needs to work harder toward giving trophies some sort of tangible value akin to points in the Xbox Live Achievement system... as long as they don't outright copy them.
It may be closer than we think guys.
Later "this week" Sony is adding the ability to view anyone's Trophies Data on http://www.playstation.com and also upgrading their "GamerCards".
Check-out what they put on the PlayStation Blog today: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/08/12/enhanced-playstation-network-trophies-online
" I don't know specifics, but I'm 99% sure the problem is on Sony's end, not Giantbombs. "you are correct sir.
Check-this-out! http://www.us.playstation.com/go/trophies/?ILC-hpmarquee&FTTR=Trophy_trophy
Finally, Sony is starting to catch-up :)
