I wasn't a gamer. You all know that. I was a comic book nerd from Comic Vine who occasionally dabled in Zelda and SSB's Melee and Brawl. I know my Batman and Spider-man and X-men and the beloved Madame Mirage front to back, up to down. But video games? A taboo area for girls. Up until a few years ago, it's been a "boys club" that a few girls sneak into every so often thanks to older brothers or Star Wars Obsessed Boyfriends. But then you get the crazy girls. And this next part is my reflection from a review of Raychel Moore's blog.

Endogene- I'm surprised that you of all people don't know what Gaia Online is.
I remember some gaiafag was like "can you check if its up?" on Off Topic like 3 months ago, and I segwayed it by trying to convince him that it was the worst website of all time. That led to him getting so angry that he spammed the board with gay porn, and then got perma-banned. Amazing.
It's all stereotypical. If you are a female who plays games, you are automatically assumed to like girly games. If females play "real" games (I don't consider games like the "Imagine" series to be real games), we are presumed to be wanting attention. I don't want attention, I just want to play games. I don't want pink consoles, I don't want girly games. I hate when developers like Ubisoft feel the need to create special games just to target the female audience. I hate games that cater to one gender.
Yes, there are some females who just want attention, that's part of their personality. There are people who beg for attention, male and female, it's very silly to judge all female gamers based on the few who just want to be noticed. Although I really hate these female-only clans popping up everywhere now, I can see why so many of them are being created. Female gamers are trying to get out their feelings that they play real games too, and they want developers to know that we don't want games that only target our gender. I just hope in the future, developers realize that females are playing the same games that they think will only appeal to males and understand that they don't need to create "special" games just for us.
Also, that Nintendo magazine advertisement is hilarious. Great find.
Yeah it's stupid stereotyping girls who play games, or girls or listen to heavy metal or anything else like that. But I would still like to meet a girl who is into the same games as me, all the girls I know go : your an idiot with no life. when I tell them what I do in my spare time.
"What a coincidence that you happen to mention the "Imagine" franshise. It has some pretty good games actually. Ubisoft only published those games under the imagine name, they are all developed by separate studios."I don't know whether I should be congratulating you for playing the Imagine games or creeped out that you actually think they are good... :S

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE. EVERYONE GET OUT YOUR MASCULINITY QUICK!
"stuff"I said something along these lines a previous topic, but the reply was a day late, so you I guess I didn't expect you to see it. Anyways, if you don't want attention, and you don't want 'girl' games, then what the fuck are you rambling on about? If you're content with Gears, Halo, or whatever crap you like to play, then why do you feel the need to bitch? Or do you want them to add a female protagonist.. when you just said you didn't want them to target women.
I have no fucking idea where you're going with this.. do you want companies to stop producing good-selling shovel ware games? Is that you're one complaint? Because that's just fucking ridiculous. They make money, and companies will produce them for that. Just as males, no one is forcing you to buy them. Companies will make them, because they sell, and 'real gamers' won't buy them. End of story.

"I'm guessing she dislikes her demographic being consistently exploited in terms of advertising (falsely) and it irks her that stereotypes the game communities may be attempting to reform are consistently upheld by the industry itself, and are stagnant because of that."Well it's not as if males aren't targeted to like GI Joe and Captain Planet. Just because you're a tomboy doesn't mean you should ask for a whole social reform. If you like Halo and Gears, then like Halo and Gears. No ones stoping you. Should girls stop playing with Barbies now too, just because you don't like them?

I'm quite content with Gears and other games. And I didn't know I was "bitching," I simply stated that I hate games that cater to one gender. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to dislike something... It's an opinion, calm down.

I realize that crap like that sells, just like other shovel ware games. I didn't say they were forcing me to buy them either. It's more so that I hate the general view of female gamers in the industry, which is why those games are created. Even women who work in the industry are stereotyped.
Also, last time I checked this was a forum where we can share our thoughts and feelings on something. I guess I should just shut the hell up and go in the kitchen next time, sorry about that.

"It's going to be a while before people get over the whole "omg girlz on da videogame" thing, so get used to it =pAlso, people don't want to see ugly girls playing videogames on magazine covers. That will never happen."
"Am I the only one who knew that Virago was a girl? Am I the only person who completely didn't care?"No, and Yes.
I'm surprised there's not more female solidarity. I can understand the fighting only if the guy is a RL or in-game boyfriend (then only "pretend mad"). Aren't there enough guys to go around in those things? Are there people out there that want online relationships so badly?
>Games for girls
It seems there are games for little girls, like Barbie, then maybe Nancy Drew, but then for adults, it just seems to be "games anyone can play." I'd like to see more games like Saints Row, where you can play a male or female or in between rather than GTA, where the leads are all males (given they both have the same "quality").
>Tits or it didn't happen.
I guess for you, it never will.
"I guess I should just shut the hell up and go in the kitchen next time, sorry about that.Way to exaggerate. I'm arguing with you like anyone else. And I don't know why you have to think they cater to one gender. You're living proof that pink doesn't = women. I played Princess Debut, Endogene just said Imagine games aren't that bad - we're both males. So just because you dislike like something, doesn't mean everyone else does.

Of course there are people who like those games, and that's cool. I just don't like that when some people hear the words "female gamer," they automatically assume that they play a certain list of games that all happen to be "girly". So yeah, perhaps it's not the games themselves that I hate, but the stereotype surrounding them.
I hate how male gamers get stereotyped into all loving FPS action games with killing and big guns. I want a pony game aimed to deliver the awesome experience of owning my very own special little pony, my little pony, where we can ride off into the sunset with John Wayne and sing songs about sleeping under the stars.
I also think female gamers, i refuse to say girl gamers the phrase annoys me, get a negative stereotype or sometimes undue attention because there is always that slutty girl online who totally abuses her boob privileges to get free loot in Raids and group quests on MMO's. Then there is the fact that boobs are essentially every mans Kryptonite so the moment we find out a girl is playing on the same server as us people go nuts.
Plus the games industry just loves to stereotype their audiences by providing "female orientated games and gaming apparatus" like a pink DS. I mean you can understand why they do it because there is always a large portion of the gaming community thats female but very casual so they buy up those "female orientated" products. But there is also a huge number of female gamers out there who keep their gender hidden and enjoy the exact same games and style of gaming culture that guys do. Just look at the FragDolls.
