The Old Games Show Suggestions Thread
Gunstar heroes and Dynamite heady, its crazy that 2 of Treasures first 3 games are as good as they are, and both were mainstays on my sega channel.
I'll quote myself:
I want them to play TIE Fighter, if Dan and Drew are around or something that'd be neat. That'd be cool because it got a re-release on GOG recently, both the original and the inferior one from '98 (the best version is still not around), there's minimal amount of setup required, the former can be played with a mouse. I want Brad to know that the game holds up exceptionally well, I want Dan to see what it's all about, Jeff really liked it and I don't know if Drew "Flight Sim" Scanlon has played it or not, but yeah. It is the finest Star Wars game ever made, not to mention one of the best games of all time, and more people should be aware of its existence.
Solar Jetman is still a fantastic game even today. Would love to see the guys check it out.
SNES
Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe and hopefully get a Giant Bomb Staff Speedball League.
Here's another idea.
I'd like to the see guys bust out some of the NES's odd peripherals and do a show on those
like the
And of course the Power Glove
Tower of Babel for the Amiga is an awesome early polygonal game where you control/program three robots with different skills to solve puzzles.
Hook on the SNES. I spent a whole Christmas Eve trying to beat that, I was getting an N64 that Christmas Day I think.
After talking about Taxan/Naxat last week, I'd love to see someone play Eight Eyes for the NES. Oddball little Castlevania-style game with neat ideas, settings and music.
It's a James Bond game in the style of Zelda.

Seconded.
I'll also throw Impossible Mission into the ring.
I used to play Kid Cool on NES a lot when I was really young and loved the hell out of it. Not sure if it sucked in retrospect but I think it would be cool to see that pop up again. Also I'm a fan of anything from N64...1080 Snowboarding?
@ben_h: I played that game so much when I was a kid.
I would recommend Rise of the Dragon, but I don't know if it would really fit into the format. Also it seems more like something Vinny would play. It was a damn good game, though.
It's an NES platformer that plays like Ninja Gaiden. You're a cyber-kabuki manifestation of a military dude inside a computer killing robot samurai viruses by whipping your mane of red hair. You get different sub weapons for beating the stages, some good, some bad. It's infamous for its wonky ice and conveyor belt physics which continue to affect you even in the air. The first and fourth levels have some Geiger-esque shit going on in the background. Two problems with it for the show: One, your health counts down into score at the end of every level (they're fairly short), so you'll need to turn an infinite health cheat off and on pretty frequently. Two, even with infinite health you might get stuck at level 3 because it's a vertical stage and getting hit usually means falling and losing progress.
Mega Man Soccer. Every time Jeff mentions the best soccer game of all time I get really excited. Probably doesn't hold up, but I have to see it.
E.V.O.: Quest for Eden for the SNES. Really creative game ostensibly about evolution, but really about murdering other animals to grow your small fish/lizard/dinosaur/mouse into a shark-teethed killing machine.
And I think with cheating you should be able to get unlimited upgrade points to avoid grinding and show off the cool upgrades, one of the game's biggest weak points, and gain invincibility to blaze through the levels to get to the later eras.
I'd love to see anybody talk about Kid Chameleon or General Chaos for any amount of time.
Shadowrun for Genesis: It's an open world RPG with procedurally generated missions and the now in-vogue "play your own way" style of gameplay.
You can be a hacker and steal data from computer networks for xp and cash, you can infiltrate corporate offices to kidnap employees for rival corporations or steal research prototypes, or just take missions to kill street gangs causing cyberpunk trouble! You pick your starting class, but your character is totally customizable, as are the shadowrunners you hire to go along with you. Heists can actually include a mage to keep the team invisible, a hacker to tap into the intranet and shut down the security cameras, and a street samurai for when it all goes pear-shaped and corporate hellhounds show up. I can't think of a game that is doing anything like this today, and this game did it 21 years ago. Shadowrun for SNES was reasonably popular but this is an entirely different game based on the tabletop ruleset, and it was years ahead of its time.
For the show's sake, cheating to max stats and grant infinite money would be enough to run around the world (most of which is open to explore immediately upon starting the game) and get access to the high-end missions to try that stuff out (the Reputation stat gates higher level content) as well as to hire runners and buy all sorts of gear. Nothing is actually a far walk since it's not linear, you use taxis to get around to different parts of town and corporate buildings open up when you have a mission to infiltrate them.
Would love to see exposure for this insanely overlooked gem!
EDIT: Also I'll third the suggestion for E.V.O., that game is amazing and bizarre and probably shows pretty well with cheats to cut the grinding out.
I would love to see some hot Boogerman action. I never managed to finish that game as a kid.
Also, The Lion King on Genesis.
