Let us take some time to remember the worst game rental experiences you had during your gaming years.
I will get the ball rolling with Pariah for the original Xbox. It was pretty good for maybe an hour, then it all fell down really fast after that.
The worst game you ever rented
Mine would be Penny Racers for the Nintendo 64. The thought of building my own tracks became much less fun when I saw how simple it was and how boring the game was.
uhhhhh, i don't remember the name of the worst game i rented, but it was for genesis and had these mechanical fish or some shit. It was later given to me as a gift or i just accidentally kept the game after renting it. Either way, from what i remember as a kid it was shit. I think i lost or threw it out about 10 years ago....
oh found it on GB http://www.giantbomb.com/gadget-twins/61-22266/
i thought they were fish, i think they are actually planes. God damn this bring back memories
" Tamagotchi: Party On! for the Wii "Oh my god. Yes. I bought that because my girlfriend at the time wanted it. I can't believe that was a game. Its like Mario Party, without any minigames at all, everything fell to the luck of the dice.
"Oh I lost, too bad there was virtually nothing I could do to prevent that..."
" i just rented bayonetta and i can't get into it at all.. just not my type of game i guess. i should have known though, i've never been into button mashers. "Hah, no wonder you couldn't get into it. It's not a button mashing game at all. But yeah the setting and stuff is really Japanese.
" Hour of Victory. Even the clerk knew it was bad, he asked "Are you SURE you want to rent this?" he never asked me with any other game. "You know what my most worst memory may have been? I bought Hour of Victory for $98 USD.........
" Eternal Sonata.Dude, I love that game.
Wasn't horrible, but then I don't rent games much. "
When I was in high school, I had my wisdom teeth removed and was high on pain killers for most of the following weekend. My mom rented a bunch of movies for me and, at random, Quest 64. The pain killers were able to mask how bad it was pretty effectively until they wore off.
I'm not averse to discussing it, but if you want the short version (apologies if you don't), I thought the combat was repetitive, the story brittle, the characterization halfhearted and the ending totally impenetrable. Not even Chopin's awesome top hat could win me over. Or maybe it did, since I beat it?
Far Cry Instincts Predator on Xbox 360 is probably the worst game I've rented on this generation of consoles. But I've been renting since the SNES/Genesis days, and that was a long time ago... It's hard to remember bad games from that far back. By now I've wiped most of those ones from my memory.
It's a tie between Rogue Warrior and Fantastic Four.
" @Hailinel: Well, it did have its moments. Like this. And this. And this. "I won't say that that game doesn't have its flaws. And to be honest, my view of the game may be forever colored by the fact that it came out on the very same day that I suffered one of the absolute worst humiliations of my life (on this, I do not exaggerate). While they're far from the deepest, Eternal Sonata's story and characters were what pulled me through a very turbulent time; there's just something incredibly heartfelt about it; about this dying man's dreams, that I just found moving. Does it get long-winded and pretentious at times? Yes, but I forgive it for that.
The gameplay was really just what I wanted from the game. Not too simple, not not strategically taxing, though there is a bit of strategy in terms of positioning characters in light or darkness. I found it fun and engaging enough that it never felt like a chore.
And Chopin's top hat is indeed awesome.
I own this one," spider-man and x-men for the snes. not that it was terrible, i just couldn't get past the beginning. the VERY beginning. RIGHT WHEN YOU START AS SPIDER-MAN!!! my young impatient mind couldn't handle it. "
And the first level while not the hardest is easily one of the most frustrating in the game.
But not as much as the swimming level, It always made me think of the swimming level in that ninja turtles game,
MOTHER FUCKING ELECTRIC SEAWEED!!!!!! I'M A FUCKING TURTLE I EAT FUCKING SEAWEED!!!!!
Or was it the best game I ever rented?
" @TheHT said:If you're a regular turtle, sure. But if you're a ninja turtle, you'd only eat seaweed if it were on a pizza.I own this one, And the first level while not the hardest is easily one of the most frustrating in the game. Wow, being that I used to rent games every week since the days of the Genesis, I've rented some terrible crap.
However, probably the WORST that I can recall was an N64 Blockbuster Rental Exclusive called Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals. It was a God-awful fighting game using the Beast Wars franchise. Being a kid, all I saw was "Transformers! COOL!", but little did I know how I wasted that weekend with that hunk o' crap.
" Daikatana, I think I played it on the N64. Specifically remember that game being god awful. "So, I guess we can assume that John Romero did not make you his bitch.
" super man 64 bad game and my little brother lost it for like 2 weeks and i had to pay a 20$ late charge havent rented a game since "oh wow, bad experience much?
My friend rented Legendary. 'Nuff said.
Recently (since I don't remember that far back) it was Darksiders. It was probably because I don't like Zelda games. Idk why, I just don't, so the game itself probably isn't sucky, but I found it pretty bad. The backtracking, puzzles, and vagueness were infuriating. They weren't hard, but they were maddening for whatever reason.
I used to go to Blockbuster just about every other weekend when I was a kid to rent games and I'm sure at some point I must have rented some pretty horrible ones but I don't really remember. But looking through my GameFly rental history here, I realize that I rented Odama for the GameCube about 4 years ago. I also apparently rented Alone in the Dark but I'm pretty sure I returned that without playing it.
When I was young my mum rented me a game to keep me happy while with a baby sitter while she went out, she didn't know what the hell she was doing and ended up bring back a ps1 game that was pretty bad. All I can remember about it was it had some kind of arena based combat with women with boobs that bounced faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar to much. I'd say it was dead or alive but I could literally move around on a 3d plane.
It's safe to say I chose my own rentals after that.
