This site needs mods. Why are there so many trolls and spammers?

After being on this site since an hour after launch I have seen people abusing the freedom here. I like that they are giving us freedom but after seeing all the post spammers, trolls, and LJ_Basic's poser we neeed people to clean up the forum. Since this site has only been up a day I know it will have a lot of traffic but it still is getting a lot more spamming, etc. than this site needs right now. Anyone agree?

I disagree, considering how little moderation there is here I think there has been very little bad behaviour,  Some moderation will clearly be needed in the long run but building a sensible community is the best way to keep things reasonable in the long term

The team need time to choose who is a suitable moderator, they can't just give the role to anyone.

Yeah, they'll start picking the mods soon I think.

I haven't noticed any annoying behaviour though, but I think GB staff will pick some good users and make them mods.

Well, I hope the mods they choose are slightly more reasonable than the GS ones, they were generally ok, but sometimes...

Because a lot of Gamespot posters migrated here and they are all 14-17 year olds and are enamored with the ability to curse in threads.

Rudeness have nothing to do with age, there are plenty of nice kids just excited about playing and talking about games. I do agree when there is one they go bananas writing wierd and rude stuff.

Just because you are between the ages of 13-17 doesn't mean your immature. Half the trolls here probably are older  than that. There is no telling their age so don't frame them in that group.

But seriously, someone needs to get rid of LJ's poser and other assorted muppets. I don't want to see some of the images they're chucking around.

No different from any other forum, especially after a new launch.  Give a few weeks for them to get bored and any stragglers will be caught by new mods.  Takes time to see who can handle the responsibilty of moderation.

This site will turn into another 4chan if there are no mods.

Thank God there's a point system so I don't have to see the worst posts, but so far I haven't seen that much chaos in this forum.

Now we have this Casey Wegner making forum posts about him banning other people. Seriously what is up with him and LJ's poser?

We need mods here. Have some order and decency.

They aren't concerned with putting all of their manpower towards cleaning up the forums at this point. Day 2 and they're worried about:

Glitches
Bugs
Bandwidth
Script errors

They will do what is necessary; give them some time.

How can you help?

In the coming weeks, we'll be looking to the community for some trusty moderators to help out as well. However, we're no where near that point right now so please don't send us PMs volunteering just yet.

I haven't seen a lot of questionable material, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. We still need mods though, no matter how good the board is.

The whole OMG POST RANDOM CRAP TO GET MY POST COUNT UP has got to stop, its so damn annoying. If you dont have anything meaningful to say then just sod off.

As far as I've seen, there's been very little trolling going on. Probably less than your usual modded site. Which is very good. Besides, all the staff members are very active right now anyway, and are taking care of any moderation issues that need be.

The site is just expanding very fast people are very urgent to get their first post up and blogs, give it some time and the mods will pull out all the bad weeds.

It's not so bad considering that there's no moderation. Ignore the people that only complain about Gamespot, and it's all pretty enjoyable.

I pretty much agree with everyone here, this postapalooza (don't even think is a word) needs to stop, every now and then I check the forums and it's full of BS and noesense, but I guess we can survive a few more days, after all this is just a beta of the site

AS much as I agree with all of you that mods are needed, we're beating a dead horse here. My self and other chatted with Snide, and he said they are coming. Various stickies address the issue, and Jeff talked about it back at the blog. They are getting to it, we will have our mods. These things take time, and they want to make the best possible choice to make the site the best it can be. I'm tired of the trolling and spamming my self, but until the staff can pick some mods, we just have to grin and bear it.

Bu...bu...buuuut my freedome of speech! Seriously this is what happens when you give kids too much freedom, and some of you guys hate the fact that there are mods at GS and other forums.

Freedom is nice, but it gets to a point where its to much to handle for anyone.

The site just launched yesterday and the staff is very busy fixing the bugs and approving the enormous amount of submissions that have been flooding in.  The whole flood of spam and trolls always dies down soon after launch of a website.  When the staff is ready(which won't be for a little while accord to snide),they will select who they think would be the best moderators and ask them to join the team.  Just hang in there.

Lots of folks here are bitching about the Gamespot forums, hoping trolls don't sully this site with similar rubbish, but I'm more concerned about Giant Bomb's forums turning into the damn 1Up boards. There's some funky shit in those threads, I tells ya.

this should be some mods soon, till then we can only wait
