Stalker didn't have room on my list but I have it an honorable mention. Glad to see it here.
Your Game of the Year for 2010
" @Forum_User: My favourite part of Mass Effect 2 was the conversations. "
It makes sense, since the combat of the first one, at least, was janky as hell. I mean, if the conversation isn't the best part, then what is? Walking from one NPC to the next?
Well, there was also the Mako. Yeah, people really loved the Mako...
Are people really that "disgusted" or bummed out on this list? Doubt anyone in this thread played all these games. I only played one in the top 10 (#7), the others came close or didn't make it at all! Here to 10 more pages of people feelings getting hurt over video games!

They seemed to have scrapped a lot of what people didn't like about the first game. Mako is gone. I didn't care for it but I don't see all the hate. Its probably been to long since the first one for me to remember though. I remember the first game having areas that were horribly large like the Citadel, which is quite small and manageable in #2. The combat is better as well but I'd still rather be talking. I can shoot dudes in almost any game. I can't talk dudes up and shoot dudes in many games.
Also (male) Shepard is hella charismatic.
" @Forum_User said:I do this and then succumb to the urge to use the jet-booster-thing. Not the games fault I'm driving back up and it was totally worth it. I can't remember to much but I do remember trying to flip the damn thing. I got it once and then it just bounce right-side-up." @Sasran said:I thought the Mako was fun. " How effing insulting is it that Mafia 2 is on this list and MLB 10 The Show isn't? "good call
the show takes up 90% of my ps3 playing time, and i always forget about it when i think of top games. maybe it's me, but i guess i think of sports games differently.
Interesting to see how the wider community felt on some points: Heavy Rain for example, Super Meat Boy (there's probably some skew towards games freshest in people's minds within many of these games), Bad Company 2, Amnesia, sports titles (interesting that they come in at the same point in the list).
I just don't understand the love for ME2. After the hype I was really underwhelmed. Didn't even put it on my list. I liked the first a bit better. Oh well.
Also, considering the love for Persona this site seems to have, I'm disappointed that Atlus's other games got ignored. Etrian Odyssey 3 and SMT: Strange Journey are both excellent, but they didn't even make the list. I mean, I love Persona too, but come on, the other two games warranted more attention than the third release of P3 since 2007.
limbo 15?!
people are fucking stupid. i can post 15 flash games off of newgrounds.com that are as good or better.
im not really bugged about it at all. i just think its odd.
" @Forum_User said:I didn't mind the Mako. Actually, it was one of the parts where I felt like I was actually playing a game instead of just watching a B-grade film play out according to whatever invisible checkbox I happened to check. It wasn't really particularly interesting after the first time landing though." @Sasran said:I thought the Mako was fun. " Galaxy 2 should be significantly higher, too bad it was on the wii. "Indeed. Multi-platform games also have an inherent advantage when it comes to these vote-based lists.
What's funny is that people are bitching literally about themselves. One could easily argue why any game should or shouldn't be above or below another but honestly that's missing the whole fucking point.
The point is to see the distribution of gaming for the Giant Bomb community.
The Mako was flawed in execution but I thought there was potential with the idea. I was disappointed that Bioware decided to abandon it rather than fix it. I liked how it gave the game a sense of bigness and scale and made it feel like I was actually exploring the galaxy. Scanning for minerals in ME2 was a poor replacement- it was just boring.
I was hoping Puzzle Agent would make it, oh well. Overall nice list.
Kudos to ME2, awesome game!
Also, I'm really happy that Amnesia: The Dark Descent made it to the list of 199 people :)
I bought that during for $1.25 on Steam, but like so many other games I've purchased during their various sales, I haven't even gotten around to playing it yet." i feel like i'm the only person who voted for Chime and that makes me sad. "
(I also didn't contribute to this aggregate list anyway.)
The games I will not understand ever.
Castlevania Lords of Shadows-Its a video game, a very bland one to me
Fable 3- Most disappointing to a lot of people but still up there wat
DKC Returns- I've played to the about the 5th or 6th world and its just a hard platformer that is made harder due to annoying motion controls
Limbo- I'm on the its ok but I don't give a poo about it being black and white and its $15, blahblah price vs length.
My personal GOTY's in no certain order would be VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, Alan Wake, Enslaved, Lara Croft GoL, After Burner Climax, and maybe Heavy Rain? There are a few other games I've played on the list but mostly just including things I've finished and think deserve a mention. There are some things I know deserve some credit such as ME2, Halo Reach, Starcraft 2, and so on.
But seriously, I mainly just glanced at top 10 and I could say that the top 3 was, if 2/3 multiplat release, mainly bought by the general user group of 360s. 2 games were long awaited sequels with 360 only release. F:NW was strongly favored by 360 user because PS3 users were traumatized of the poor condition of the version of their console. SMB was year's biggest indie hit, thus gathering the favor of that genre and was 360 exclusive at launch.
Not meaning to undermine the heterogenisity of GB, just blurting out my general view.
Also, why do my shortest writeups get the attention of you big guys?
it kinda suck that Another Century's Episode R is not on any ones list :( cuz it a really good game
You know, the real problem that video games have compared to other forms of media is the relatively high investment of time and money it takes. Movies cost 10 bucks for a ticket and are 2 hours long, but games can be as expensive as 60 bucks and some can take as long as 50 hours to complete. Some will take even more. Which means that if you're trying to decide on GOTY by the time the next year starts, it's almost impossible to have played a large amount of the games worthy of consideration.
To me that fact kind of lowers the value and credibility of these types of lists. Not that I think it was a bad idea or anything, I mean I participated myself, but when I see how this list ended up I can't help but think things would have been very different if there was a significant difference in terms of what games people actually played in the first place.
Oh well, no big deal.
