Just curious to see if anyone answers their cellphone when a number pops up thats not in your phonebook and looks unfamiliar. I personally don't and if it's real important they'll leave me a voicemail.

Sure don't.  If they know who I am, they can leave a voicemail and I'll call them back.

I do and I pretend to act like a Chinese woman. And if they leave a voice mail I'll call that back too, but just not say anything, and they will be all HELLO?! HELLO?!

My cell is also my work phone, so I usually do. It kinda sucks when it turns out to be someone I don't want to talk to. That's the price I pay for not having a phone bill.

Yes.  I also add junk calls to my phonebook so I can give them a separate ringtone.  That way I know not to answer.  Automating bastards...

Yes, but if it's a 1-800 number I usually don't pick up.

No, but the only time that happened was when I was busy. I probably would have picked it up, and gave the anonymous caller a mouthful. Probably sales, since I never get calls outside people in my contacts. Albeit, I don't use my phone that much.

Yeah if it's a 1-800 number I don't pick up, if it's someone else's cell I don't see why I wouldn't answer.

I usually will answer the phone if its a number I don't recognize but in my local area code.

That said, if I ever get the impression I'm being sold something or scammed, I have no hesitation to just hang up on whatever poor sap called me mid-sentence.

I dunno, man. Checking the phonebook for people calling you seems pretty extreme.

Of course,  a contacts battery may be down and them calling on another line may be the only means of contacting you. I simply have a formal tone when answering, that's all.

I did until that whole car warranty bot thing happened (I got like 10 calls from them...). Even though that's all over with I'm still afraid to answer unknown numbers.

I am more likely to answer my phone if I dont know the number. I screen my calls unless it is a strange number then I answer them 100% of the time.

Considering my cell is the only number that one can ever reach me at, I sure do. Now there are times that I let the unknown number leave a voice mail. But in those cases, I check it right away and if it was important I call them back immediately.

I don't answer if I don't recognise the number. I figure whoever it is will leave a message. If it's important enough then maybe I'll call them back.

Yeah, Why wouln't I? I get a phone call, I answer it, that's kinda what a phone is for. Usually it's just some guy in a call centre trying to get me to buy stuff, and I just tell them to piss off, but if I didn't answer it, they'd try to phone back every day for a few days. And then they'd try again next month. And then again in X amount of time. If you don't answer and tell them you're not interested, your number stays in their system and they'll keep calling. If you answer, and tell them where they can stick their *insert whatever they're selling here*, then they won't call back. And it would be bloody annoying if all these companies kept calling me all the time.

All the time, I get new people calling me every now and then, usually where I forgot I'd given them my number.

I would pick up my phone even if it was a rapist. You never know what will happen if you pick up an unknown caller.

I don't answer numbers not registered on my phone unless I know beforehand that someone is calling me who I don't have their number logged.
