So Everybody Draw Muhammad Day is coming up. Wondering if anyone here plans on participating. I don't know much about the fellow but he strikes me as the kind of guy who eats pancakes in the morning and wears flannel. And so he shall.
Everybody Draw Muhammad Day, May 20.

As ridiculous as it might seem, I think its important to respect other peoples beliefs. I mean really its no more silly that you can't draw a picture of Muhammad than JC made wine from water or that Moses wandered between Egypt and Israel for 40 years eating magic sky bread. Its about as sensible as Mother Goose...but people really believe it. So why go out of you way to piss them off?
Well this is kind of a dick move. Not that I think we shouldn't be able to show him or whatever, but this is just going to make people angry.

"Because we all do it to each other, we make fun of Jesus openly, Buddha, and basically any kind of religious figure out there. However for some fuckin reason the Muhammed is excluded for it all... Which is total bullshit, yeah we respect the religion, but the idea that we should all avoid "pissing them off" just by drawing the dude or depicting him in some form is total shit. Yeah I'm all for tolerance and acceptance but in this case; I wanna see a Muhamma-Lisa.

The guy who started this might have an agenda but I have to draw the line at censoring myself so as not to offend the kind of person who would kill over something so trivial. It doesn't sit right with me, letting a fringe of people 5k miles away dictate freedom of expression here.
Edit: Just though I'd throw in the fact that I'm not going to participate, as it's going to do nothing more than piss of Islamic people and it is a bit disrespectful. I was just explaining the purpose.
Yeah. Why do this? I know that all of the stuff they believe in is all bollocks just like all the other religions, but they believe in it strongly. Why go piss them off for no reason. Just wait until modern logic creeps over the world which will happen eventualy and it'll die on its own, just like Christianity has largely grown unpopular in the UK, where I live, when 60 years ago most of the country was brought up believing in it." thats one way to piss off an entire continent worth of people. "
Just don't wind them up. They're mad.
" @lazyturtle: The point is not pissing off Islams, it's that everyone thinks it's ridiculous that any religion can be made fun of (Buddah snorting cocaine, Jesus watching porn) and there's no death threats and anger from a ton of people, but just showing a picture of Mohamed is "out-of-line" and people want that to change. "Exactly.

Wasn't there a Danish artist who angered the Muslims with his drawings depicting Mohamed? Best to stick with the status quo.
Well then this is an empty harmless gesture and I guess normal Muslims are as adept at tuning stuff like this out as Christians. If its all the same, even though this is clearly a meaningless gesture in a free society, I think I'll participate anyway. And since everyone's mature about this, it'll be largely ignored and people who participated will look like petty children. Egg on our face. Can't wait for the lack of interest and reaction this gets. Seriously, I would love to live in a world where this could happen and nothing happens. Let's see if that's where we actually live." @ryanwho said:

Yeah people dis religions on the internet, what else would you expect from 13-year old jackasses? But why make a big fucking deal out of it? What does this have to do with freedom of speech? Just because some fanatic might kill you for talkin smack about Jesus doesn't mean you need to go and have thousands of people talk smack, it doesn't solve anything and it just pisses off people who hate the guy trying to kill you as much as you do." @Semition said:

We're not talking smack. I'm just drawing a picture. Not a negative depiction even, I love pancakes. And you're trying to reconcile how this is different than the shit you normally make fun of by acting like this is actually about your compassion for the normal people this would offend and not about your fear of the people who might kill over it. If this is about compassion, you would be equally compassionate but you're not. You're just afraid to address the white elephant in the room. Not to say this is "brave", its dudes on the internet making pictures. Nothing brave about it. But if we don't live in a world where people can do this without creating bloodshed, there's clearly something wrong that needs to be addressed. If this is merely a conduit for the discussion people are afraid to have, that's enough. Honestly participating doesn't even make a difference. I could very well not participate. The event itself is receiving exposure, the fact of the event existing does more to provoke than any single picture will. And once people are done talking about how appalled they are maybe they'll be forced to address the issue." @ryanwho said:

" thats one way to piss off an entire continent worth of people. "Only the extremists, but since so much as coughing will piss them off because there's this one obscure phrase in the Qu'ran that forbids coughing (maybe), screw them.
This is one of the latter times.

Wat
You think that poster is scared he's going to die from terrorist attacks by posting on a forum?
Why do you somehow figure that he has ''shit he usually makes fun of'''?
If this is about compassion, you would be equally compassionate but you're not.
What does this part even mean?
Yet another example of your seemingly limitless potential for douchebaggery Ryanwho. You must be a hit with the ladies.
wow. this is the dumbest idea. Lets go piss people off for no good reason. Its not like youre going to change peoples minds about how they feel about showing their god. If Christians suddenly said you cant show jesus (which I think some believe the bible says......) then other cultures would respect that.... I dont see a bunch of Hindu's or Muslims showing Jesus all the time...
Trey Parker and Matt Stone knew they would get censored, and if they felt that strongly about it, they could take their show elsewhere from Comedy Central and make way more bank and have more creative freedom on HBO or something. Let the Muhammad thing go.
Speaking as a Christian, this is really low and dumb. This is why the rest of the world doesnt like America people. sigh
" It's really childish in my opinion. Use your freedom of speech to express something, not just because you can. "Childish is attempting to kill someone for drawing a picture - even a respectful picture - of your holy desert prophet. Fuck them and the imaginationland they live in.

Events like these make me wish I could draw. Have at it internet. Do your worst.
If this was about the average Muslim getting offended, I would expect you also refrain from activities that would offend the average Christian, or any other religion, or any other culture. You can't care just about the average Muslim and say it has nothing to do with fear of the fringe then attack the average Christian or allow others to. Either you're generally compassionate and misguided and think all forms of religious 'attacks' or perceived attacks should be banned, or you inexplicably care about this particular group of people to the point that you think they deserve a special exception. So people opposed to the idea of people drawing Muhammad are either compassionate tyrants or they're being baffling hypocrites.
"I'm just respectful of the wishes of the religion, troll."
Yeah, baffling hypocrite, double standards etc.
" @mutha3:''banned''?

Who said anything about banning anything?
I'm calling this shit juvenile. Which it is.
Your also making the assumption that I try and actively offend any culture or religion.
I don't.....Seeing how I'm not a childish twat. Stop assuming shit, please.

It would be a lot easier for me to agree with the sensible things you say in the second half of this paragraph if you weren't making uninformed assumptions about me in the first. Assumptions I'm not going to waste my time trying to refute. But I will say if you really want to address the issue of people receiving death threats over cartoons, or address misplaced 'white guilt' whatnot (assuming that is the white elephant you mean?), I'm totally behind you, but I don't think this is a good way of doing that.
