Harvard study finds July 4th parades are right-wing.

Apparently July 4th gatherings are more likely to turn kids into conservatives since conservatives tend to express more American patriotism.

The study also says left wing liberals gain nothing from the gatherings.

As a conservative, I think this is pretty funny. Because I don't see how celebrating our country's accomplishments could steer you toward a political party.

Well, just read it. I do find it weird that one of our country's most prestigious Universities spent time on this.

Makes sense. Conservatism is based heavily on Nationalism and in the US especially, American Exceptionalism.

Its not that i think its BS, i agree Nationalism is linked with conservatives. But this is not news... you know what else isn't news? The fact that just because something is popular it gets attention. Just cause its Harvard they wrote something about it...If this was written by a non ivy i doubt it would have been deemed worthy enough for an article.

When I was a kid, a typical 4th of July was us and our neighbors going to a fireworks store and buying $400 worth of fireworks.

We'd come back and shoot them off while eating hamburgers and hotdogs and baked beans.

Except the one time when I accidentally shot a roman candle into one of the bags of fireworks which started a chain reaction, launching all of them at once while we all ran and took cover in the back of the pickup truck.

No, I'm talking about the funding that the group in charge of this used. I understand how university research funding works. Regardless of where it came from I think it could have been better used. I mean, clearly this was a pressing issue right?

I recommend that everyone read article just to see what the findings really are. That is, there wasn't much of value found at all. One example:
 
"It raises the likelihood that parade watchers will vote for a Republican Candidate by 4 percent."
 
Stuff like that. In any case, I'm an American conservative who happily acknowledges all of the Democrats and liberals who love this country.
