Their is no argument that the godfather is the best movie ever with Marlon Brando's preformance and best cast in movie history & Francis Ford Coppala and Mario Puzo (Super Mario) script. Their is no argument.

Well, a massive part of the movie-going community would argue that The Shawshank Redemption is a better film. Most film critics prefer Citizen Kane. I personally prefer Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.
Whilst there is certainly no denying that The Godfather was a very well made film and innovative in some ways due to it's cinematography, editing and certain camera effects, it's nothing short of arrogant to say that there's no argument against it being the best movie ever made =/

EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that The Godfather is one of my 5 favourite films of all time, so don't think this an attack on the movie.

I used to think that as well, until I watched The End of Evangelion and Clockwork Orange, now it's been pushed to #3 on my list. Fantastic movie.

Also, Part III is extremely underated, I like it better than Part II. I love all of them though.

Part III is trash.  Sofia Coppola and Andy Garcia completely ruined that movie, and like most Pacino movies...Al went out like a bitch.  Granted, I get the metaphors and alagory and all that behind it.  It's still just a shitty ending, though.

As for the best movie ever:

Are you trying to say that Good Burger ISN'T the best movie ever?

That's blasphemy, sir.  Oh, you gunna DROWN in orange soda for that one!!!

If Sam Jackson had played the part of Kel, it would've sounded something like this:

"Welcome to Good Burger, home of the muthafuckin' Good Burger.  Can I take yo MUTHAFUCKIN order?"

He could've also started asking random customers if Kenan Thompson looked like a bitch...

But that would've ruined the splendor of the movie.

Good Burger:  because nothing is better than good.

I wouldn't think that Godfather is the best movie ever because it's damn near impossible to determine something on that scale.

Godfather I and II are indeed the best movies ever made. Of course, that's just my opinion, but I stick closely by it and approach with skepticism those who say otherwise. Of course, I have no problem in accepting Pulp Fiction, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Fargo (one of my personal favs), Shawshank Redemption, or movies of that sort to be compared next to it as well. Still, The Godfather I and II....can't beat it.

I don't know if I would say it is the best ever, but it is great. Every time I see the movie I just think, no one is more attractive than Al Pacino as Michael Corleone.

I have to respectfully disagree. I thought Part III was convoluted and didn't quite fit, but I thought it was still better than a lot of stuff I have seen. Sophia Coppola wasn't good, but she wasn't that bad. Also, Andy Garcia was great in Part III (including being extremely attractive).

Pulp Fiction?  BLECK!

Superchris129 said:

Honestly?  Fight Club was just the book on-screen...word-for-word...with one scene changed...and the order of scenes rearranged.  That was it.  Moreover, while I love the book and the movie...it's nothing CLOSELY resembling the masterpiece that is The Godfather Part II.

The only movies that can even hold close to The Godfather Part II are Raging Bull and Once Upon A Time In America.  Yes, I just listed three movies with De Niro.  That man is a legend, a genius, and a godsend.  The day he dies...is the day that true cinema dies.  Same goes for Scorsese.

And SNOOZE-FEST?!  The Godfather Part II is a masterfully shot movie with tremendously powerful and unforgettable performances.  Mix that in with an unflinching look at organized crime rising in the early 20th century of American culture, as well as more themes than you can shake a stick at...as well as one of THE most memorable closing scenes that decides a character for LIFE...

Dood, you cannot...cannot...C-A-N-N-O-T beat The Godfather Part II.

And btw...all of that doubles for Good Burger.  = D

*Irony alert* Did you ever see the De Niro film Godsend?
I'll admit, way back then, you know, back in the day, De Niro was a masterful actor. Since Heat, though, he's been on something of a slump.
I agree with you about Scorcese, though. He's more or less consistently brilliant.

Oh, but I maintain The Godfather is miles better than Part II. What can I say, I prefer old Don Corleone...

I like the part... where they jump out of the 2nd story window through bullet-proof glass in the mental institution... Wait, was that in Godfather of Good Burger? I always get the two confused.

Did you ever see The Island of Dr. Moreau?

Robert De Niro as Fearless Leader in Rocky and Bullwinkle > Marlon Brando in The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Just the same way that:

Robert De Niro as Vito Corleone in Godfather Part II > Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone in Godfather

Case closed.

I wasn't trying to point out the terribleness of either actor. Just that the word you used to describe how great he is as an actor is also the name of (arguably) his worst movie = ironic.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that Office Space is the best movie ever made. But it's kinda the complete opposite in every possible way, so don't try to compare.

Casino is definitely a very underappreciated flick in Scorsese's career.  The scope of that movie was HUGE, the shots and frames were brilliant, De Niro and Pesci were amazing...just a great movie all around.

I do think that the Godfather part 3 is a very good film not as good as part 1 & 2, buy what films are.  Also I agree that part 1 & 2 are just as good as each other, but the 1 gets a better review because it's more fresh and I prefer Marlon Brando over Robert De Niro.

Godfather is so over-rated. It was a good movie, but not deserving of a best picture Oscar even from just that year. There are a thousand movies that are both more entertaining and more well-made than Godfather.

That movie made me cry! It's not the kind of film I'd really need to watch more than once, though.

The Godfather is my personal favourite film, but Part II is a close second. It comes down to your own preference, really.

Is it weird that Toy Story's my third favourite? Also made me cry, but I was 5 at the time.

To truly appreciate this film you need to watch it start to end in a dark room with no1 bugging you and break down the film scene by scene
and take note of the camera work, acting and dialogue. Withing the first 30 minutes you realize why Marlin Brando was on of the greatest actors to ever live, then to watch Al Pacino be born as the next greatest actors of our generation in the restaurant scene moments later. Truly an amazing movie.
