Who is the Greatest Military Figure of all time?
" @Video_Game_King said:Wait, was Sun Tzu a general/military figure? *wikis him* OK, he was. Still, I give my vote to Napoleon, because:" My vote goes to Napoleon. His military skill was so great, it's still being taught today. Can anybody else claim that? *waits to be proven wrong* "Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" is said to have inspired Napoleon.
Sun Tzu's tactics can even be applied to things outside of war. No one can claim that. "
a.) Sun Tzu's reality is a bit dubious, from what I read.
b.) You have to feel sorry for Napoleon. Everybody sees him as a midget, but in reality he was about 2 inches shorter than normal.
" @LiquidPrince said:No, it's just that Russia ends anything, really. Didn't Russia kinda stop Hitler? And didn't a lot of the things America did during the Cold War come back to bite them in the ass years later?" @Video_Game_King said:one word, RUSSIA. Proven Wrong! "" My vote goes to Napoleon. His military skill was so great, it's still being taught today. Can anybody else claim that? *waits to be proven wrong* ""
What this man was able to do during his time at such a young age, he is truly, in my opinion, the greatest military leader in history. The tactics he used in battle have been used by all the other mean in the poll that came after him and are still used today. He is a truly astounding person.
Russia does not end everything. Look at the Mongols, they were the only that ever successfully conquered parts of Russia. Napoleon was a good military tactician but he was not the greatest one. There was not just one great military figure. They were all great and thats the reason we still remember their names and learn their battle tactics.
Napolean greatly underestimated Russia and their best General: Winter.
Also, how is Sun Tzu not on the list? He wrote the Art of War...
Oh, and where the hell is Julius Caesar? You know, Almost-Emperor of Rome, conquered Gaul, killed Pompey?
" @KuroXai said:He was intelligent, but when it came to military he was kind of an idiot." Adolf Hitler. o_O "He was damn smart. I would choose this guy if he was on the list. "
I dont think you can really rank the best military figure. Each person on this list were in their own era, each fighting wars with vastly different technologies, tactics, and geography.
Juilius Caesar should be on this list.
" @giyanks22: Do you seriously think Robert E. Lee should be in the same category as Leonidas, Alexander the Great, and Napoleon Bonaparte? "Some people consider him to be as great as Napoleon, he one several battles while being outnumbered, under supplied and his men under armed against a much larger and superior force.
The only thing that really got him in the civil war was the lack of reinforcements.
No Hitler?
I hate the man.
But he did manage to cripple most of Europe under Nazi Germany. New tactics, new technology, and the manipulation of most of the German population.
Then again, he tried the 'invade Russia' thing... Even after Napoleon proved it was foolish.
" Wayne Gretzky??? "I bet Wayne Gretzky couldn't even shoot a gun. Let alone handle a sword.
" @Hockeymask27 said:That may be true but a frozen puck beats both. :)" Wayne Gretzky??? "I bet Wayne Gretzky couldn't even shoot a gun. Let alone handle a sword. "

General O'Neill... oh wait, we are talking actual people. :P
I honestly don't know who would be the best, I wasn't there when it happened, sure there are history books, but how accurate are they, and how exactly do you define a great military figure?
" @ManMadeGod said:So? Lee never tried, or wanted to, take over the world. That doesn't take away from his military prowess. He may have fought against America during the Civil War but he never left his people (Virginia) so I again don't see why you say that in a negative tone. Lee didn't lose the war, the country did. Napoleon eventually suffered a massive defeat that ended his career (on more then one occasion), yet you still consider him great." @Wolverine said:My bad, I meant to say Caesar, not Leonidas. Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Napoleon Bonaparte conquered a great deal of the world while Robert E. Lee was a American general who fought in the Mexican American war and then fought against his own country during the civil war and lost. "" @giyanks22: Do you seriously think Robert E. Lee should be in the same category as Leonidas, Alexander the Great, and Napoleon Bonaparte? "I seriously think that too many people saw 300 and are voting for Leonidas. How the hell does he have 15% of the vote?I see crowning one person as "greatest military figure" as dumb and impractical when all of these men waged war in different time periods, against different enemies, with different armies. All of these men excelled at what they did and I leave it at that. "
" How can you not think the man who conquered the entire known world before he turned 30 is not the greatest of all time? "Because most of the known world at that time was greece and about half of the middle east.
Also, if you dont even leave a legit heir for when you die, what was the point of conquering all that land in the first place?

"Like i said before, hitler was not a military leader, most of the tactics and doctrines used by the Germans were invented by his field marshals.
Although, he was a political genius, there is no denying that.
"Not to mention Gengis Khans empire was twice the size of Alexander the Great. It stretched from the pacific Ocean all the way to Ukraine, basically the size of the Soviet Union. "I'm not trying to say you're wrong or anything...but isn't it harder/considered a greater achievment to control a territory where there are actually people? The USSR took up a great deal of land, no doubt, but a great deal of it is tundra isn't it? More people around the area Alexander took over = more of an achievement in my book.
