I really liked my Gamecube, loved the controller. I played my PS2 more because I like sports games, and as you know, sports games sold like crap on the Gamecube. I've been buying old Gamecube games to play on my Wii, still love that controller.

I just stopped playing The Twin Snakes a few minutes ago, I loved the controller and no other controller has ever felt more comfortable personally.  I still play the hell out of the Resident Evil series on the gamecube along with the Zelda series every once in a while. It is my second favorite console, with the N64 in first.  I can't name all the games i owned and loved for the gamecube because frankly its a hell of alot.
    My opinion? Absolutely loved it.

Loved the way it looked - Consoles don't all have to look like they come from Planet Future - and I had me some great times. RE4 and Twilight Princess to name 2. Also loved the size. Still doesn't beat the PS2 for me from that gen but it was a great little box.
I think it sums up what Nintendo does best when its on form which is fun over futurism.

It's small, purple, plays small discs, and has a handle.

    Cutest fucking console ever.

    I totally agree!
The Gamecube is my favorite Nintendo console, I own more Gamecube games than any other console, and I still have it set up in my entertainment center.
    I freaking love my G-cube :)

I really like the Gamecube, still have it hooked up now. I haven't played it in... probably a year or so but it's cool to have around. I got one for cheap quite late in it's life, but very much enjoy the games few games I have. Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0 and 4 and the remake of RE1, Mario Kart: Double Dash, WWE Day Of Reckoning, Twin Snakes and Mario Sunshine were just a few games that I played a ton. The controller is awesome too.

It may still have some life left in it for me, as I didn't play nearly as much Wind Waker as I'd have liked and didn't play Twilight Princess at all... Could still go back and get those, I guess.

Luigis Mansion, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Wave Race, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Smash Bros, Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid: the Twin Snakes, The Star Wars games, Four Swords, Mario Kart: Double Dash, F-Zero: GX, Paper Mario; the Thousand Year door, Animal Crossing, Super Monkey ball. All very good games, in some cases brilliant games. Add to these some amazing multi-platform games, Timesplitters 2 and the best version of Soul Calibur ii for example, and you've got a pretty good games library.

Add to that one of the greatest joypads ever created, and you've got a pretty good console, one of my favourites in fact. I'll admit the Playstation 2 was the better console, but the original Xbox? No fucking way.

I definitely got more mileage out of my Gamecube than I did out of my original Xbox, that's for sure.

I used the cube for playing with friends, and saw many people carry it to public areas to play (like a lounge on college campus).  It was a fine system for gaming with people in the same room, and I think it was a success because of that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "It didn't live up to the high standards of quality".  It seemed like it was a quality product to me; I played it for many hours, and it was never as fragile as the PS2 (several of which broke on my brother, leaving him in a lurch until he could fix or replace it).

It had a bunch of fun games, but almost none of the "AAA titles" really stood out for me. I think I probably have more fun playing it than most other consoles. Who knows if that's nostalgia or not.

    Oh... Oh, I see.

But there were still plenty of great single-player title exclusives for Xbox.

One handed or a good two-handed hammer throw type grip? I imagine the handle aided precision.
To be honest if nothing else the Gamecube was a good hitting device. Stuff like the 360 and PS3 are far too hefty. I imagine you could get a few good hits out of the Wii but....someone needs to do a console fight night.

Probably my fav console together with N64.
I own 39 NGC games at the moment and I play more then half of it pretty often.
So many different games too! Shooters, RPG's, sports, fighter, strategic, etc.

Not enough games and seen as a kiddie console as opposed to a hardcore gaming machine but the games they had were good and graphics definitely looked better than the PS2.  Overall kind of indifferent to the console as a whole.

Fucking love my Gamecube. Nintendo made some definite mistakes with it, and assuredly learned their lesson when the Wii came out, but it's a good, strong console with a clever and small design, a controller that's...a bit childish looking, but servicable (the Wavebird is still one of  my favourite things ever) and a decent library, though mostly of first party games.

Nintendo sat on the ArtX tech for too long.  Otherwise it was a pretty good console, though it aged very quickly.

I feel very similarly about the Gamecube and the N64.  To me they had a small number of standout exclusive games that I really enjoyed.  Xbox 1 versions of multiplatform titles usually were best and games that got ported to N64 like WipEout were often pathetic.
