People Can Fly is, in fact, involved with the next Gears of War, Epic Games president Mike Cappsconfirmed on Twitter this morning.

This comes just one day after the new Gears of War game was announced on Game Informer's cover, and Epic Games' public relations department bizarrely dodged any questions of who was making it.

Besides the developer, we have no details on what the game is. Speculation around the office is that it's not necessarily a prequel (why hide Marcus Fenix's head, which wouldn't be much of a surprise?), and it could follow the squad introduced in the most recent Gears of War 3 downloadable content, RAAM's Shadow.

Is it too much to hope for Bulletstorm 2 secretly being a new Gears of War game? Probably, but I'll try.

I have never been a GoW fan, but maybe a new direction could spark my interest.

Honestly, a new Gears Of War game is the very last thing I wanted. Unless, this is releasing on the Xbox 360, I can't see them carrying Gears Of War over to the next console cycle without rebooting and retooling the entire thing.

The most exciting news to come from this is that the team at Epic which made Gears is working on something new.

LOVED Bulletstorm, thought that game got an incredibly unfair rap because of it's perceived nature rather than what it actually turned out to be, so this is good news!

I didn't like Gears of War, maybe since this one has a different developer I'll find it more interesting.

One of the few modern shooters I gladly replayed frequently after release.

Also, I'm pretty sure we are looking at Marcus in chains. Just because it's obvious and there's no good reason to hide his head, that's just how game marketing works. Pretty typical of Epic, really.

Really interested in seeing what this is. Reserving judgement until then.

I would love to see more background in the Gears universe. Hope for the best with this one.

I wonder if a new dev team and a new storyline offers hope for PC versions? I liked the original game a lot but could never play the sequels because they never came to PC.

Dude. It HAS to be a prequel. There are no arrests or (or law for that matter) after Gears 3. Everyone is stranded in a destroyed world and it'll be like the early stage of the old west.

Is Bulletstorm a good game that has been bogged down by bandwagon hate? I can never truly find a reliable source that doesn't sound overly exaggerated about whether or not it's a good game.

It was only $9.95 at my local GameStop, so I could always just pick it up if it's worth it.

@ck1nd: Bulletstorm is a very fun game that gets a bad rap because the PC version used GFWL, and some people thought the humour was immature (Personally I'd say it's very self-aware, and the characters are surprisingly well fleshed-out). for $10 you definitely can't go wrong with it, the singleplayer is a decent length and the gameplay is a shitload of fun. I'm not sure if anyone still plays the multiplayer but it's great too.

It seems a bit wasteful to give such a creative studio a project where their freedom will be so limited.

@Vasari: Just to add on a bit to what you said about the characters: they are nowhere near as annoying as the "edgy" promo videos made them out to be. They were much more interesting than PR seemed to give them credit for. In fact the game almost becomes too serious at a point, but the characters always remain likeable.

A sequel would have been nice, as the "fuck head shots" style of game play was really great, but my love of the Gears games is much greater, so I'd like to see what they do with it (although I'm well aware that their creative freedom will largely be dictated by MS and Epic)

I wish it wasn't Gears. Gears 3 wrapped everything up in the best way possible. It felt like a genuine, brilliant send off to the series.

Oh, and Bulletstorm was shit. It had good ideas, but it played like shit.

Yep it got an unimaginable amount of unfounded bandwagon hate. Everyone thought it was nothing but dick jokes and poor taste humor due to the incredibly misrepresentative marketing created for it. Couldn't be further from the truth. The game was actually fully aware of its tone and humor and even made fun of itself many times. I imagine that's why so many thought it was a game to be ignored because they were lead to believe its tone was juvenile and its intended audience "simple minded" which is a giant red flag to every cynical, jaded, arrogant nerd on the planet who thinks anything intentionally stupid or whimsical is beneath them.

Safe bet that Epic's A-Team is working on an Unreal 4 launch title for the new consoles.

Are you being sarcastic? I'm willing to bet they are doing Gears of War precisly because that game will sell on name alone, much safer then another Bulletstorm or new IP.

I would play a Gears of War game that entirely focused on an off-shoot story saga about the entire Carmine family.

Gears of War was a pretty good game for its time.

The Gears of War games are so hollow and soulless and its touted "story" is cliched and poorly written.

I really liked Bulletstorm so I'm willing to see what these guys can do with Gears moving forward. A different take certainly can't hurt.

Can't say that I entirely disagree with you about the story but the gameplay is pretty damned good as far as I'm concerned.

That said, I don't want another one. Three of these games is enough for me, unless they're doing something to seriously change up the formula. Like, I don't know, giving it an anime makeover and making a magical girl who's secretly a dude the protagonist.

Bulletstorm was sweet. The gameplay was unique as hell, the humor was funny whether you wanna admit it or not, and the actual story and characters had way deeper themes than you ever would have guessed.

And if you don't agree with me I'll kill your dick.

Actually semi-disappointed that PCF aren't working on another zany FPS. Sure, Bulletstorm sucked, but Painkiller was something special. Ah well, more Gears is good Gears.

I hope it's at least still TPS. I think Bulletstorm is one of the best FPS games ever but I like the Gears gameplay better.

I just finished RAAM's Shadow today, it was great but I really don't want a full game with that squad. They got nothin' on Delta.

I want more Bulletstorm.

I've got nothing against People Can Fly, it's just that none of the games they've made are really that appealing to me, and I really liked the Gears series. Here's hoping they do good by it.

I really hope they don't turn Gears into an FPS -_-. If it's a prequel it could be leading up to Marcus's sentence to The Slab. Hell if they wanna do a prequel go and set the game around Aspho Fields. Can introduce Doms brother Carlos. Being a massive Gears fan I should be psyched but I see no point in this at all.
