The most solid bit of information I have is that GTA V will take place in Victoria, Australia.

Yes, Australia.

Here's some supporting evidence:

As you can see here VB, a popular local beer, dons a similar font type to that in the GTA V logo. VB is also an initialization of Victoria Bitter.

We can also see that here, the Australian $100 dollar notecontains a similar pattern that can be seen in the GTA V logo.

Therefore, I hypothesize that the next GTA will take place across a large range of outback adventures, mixed with a little metropolitan exploration. Think, Vice City meets Red Dead Redemption meets Mad Max.

Also, kangaroos and drop bears.

What are your thoughts?

I want to ride a kangaroo, then kick it down some stairs with Euphoria physics. I'm in.

But Australia is so boring.. Maybe it's because I live in Perth.

I live in Sydney and honestly I can't think of why Australia would be interesting as a location. GTA needs strong cultural and social touch points to satirize and Australia has very few in my opinion. However, I appreciate your enthusiasm for an Australian setting, who knows maybe one day someone will make a Sydney mod on PC. I just want to jump off the Harbour bridge and the Sydney tower.

I wouldn't mind them going back to San Andreas....  but in more modern times....  the last san andreas game was sort of based in the early 90's culture.

It's gonna be Washington DC. The "V" part of the logo is copying traits of American money.

I'd want it to be set in London, but from the picture I'd guess somewhere in the US.

Well, every numbered GTA game has taken place in Liberty City so far (although in 1 and 2 it was not called Liberty City, it was still clearly rockstars version of New York, which just didn't happen to get a name until later), so if this trend continues it will also be set in Liberty City. That being said, since GTA 4 had no add on experiences set in different cities like GTA 3 did, they might alter the trend.

Grand Theft Auto V will take place in San Andreas. I am certain of this. Here is my reasoning:

The article suggests that the game will take place in Vice City because it resembles a poster seen in Vice City (Though it can also be seen in GTAIV). However, the color palette in the teaser featured in The Ballad of Gay Tony manual much more closely resembles San Andreas, as does the picture itself, which shows a volcano. Nothing of that sort was ever seen in Vice City, which was pretty much just a large, flat city. San Andreas featured Mount Chilliad, and this kind of landscape.

Clearly the "Five" in the logo is a reference to money, specifically the American $5 bill. Makes it seem as though money will obviously play a large role in the game, which would be a far cry from the "rags to slightly better rags" story of Niko Bellic in GTAIV. With that reasoning, the many casinos of Las Venturas seem incredibly appropriate here. Also, I'm hearing speculation that the "Five" featured in the logo is actually directly from an old version of the five dollar bill with an Indian on it (see post above). I don't know about you guys, and I don't intend to sound racist with this statement, but when I think of Native Americans, I think of casinos. They own the majority of them. People believe perhaps it suggests the main character will be a Native American himself, which I think makes San Andreas an incredibly appropriate setting for such a character.

All of this adds up to be enough for me to feel pretty confident than GTAV must be returning to San Andreas. Plus, you know, the series is known for returning to it's prior locations in sequels. Consider me convinced!

Edit: Lastly, this is pure speculation, but I'd like to say that it's unlikely the game will take place in the past. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas gave us a look at that state in the early 90s. I think this time around the game will be taking place in the present.

Present day San Andreas for sure.

@BlameGamer: It's already been said, but almost every other English speaking country uses that same font on their currency, which I'd assume actually originates from the UK. The olde timey banner behind the word five and that particular design would also make me think of the UK more than the US notes. Although the V behind the 5 on that American note does give your theory a bit more weight, it's far too early to be throwing out the "for certains" or "90% sure's".. Especially if you're suggesting GTA V will be Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm still holding out for a return to an 80's Vice City. That is still my favorite GTA of all time. The color palette, sound track, and time period made that game for me.
