Hideki Kamiya calls out Kotaku on being garbage.

#1 Posted by Icemael (6315 posts) -

So this happened:

Kamiya's Twitter has always been good, but this is probably the best thing on it to date.

#2 Posted by StarvingGamer (8134 posts) -

Ah, Kamiya is making tweets I can get behind again. All is right in the world.

#3 Posted by Hailinel (24381 posts) -

Anyone that tells Luke Plunkett to eat shit is awesome in my book.

#4 Posted by MachoFantastico (4610 posts) -

Can't stand Kotaku, I'd even put them behind IGN for awful video game journalism. Some might disagree, but at least every once in a blue moon IGN have something interesting to read. Hideki Kamiya always makes me chuckle.

#5 Posted by MariachiMacabre (7076 posts) -

Apparently they removed the word "clueless" from the headline. Probably because it looked like a desperate, petty attack.

#6 Posted by panvixyl (325 posts) -

DAMN SON. Gotta get to following Hideki Kamiya.

#7 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8698 posts) -

How very sad from Kotaku. I cannot stand their staff, so fucking full of themselves.

#8 Posted by awesomeusername (4173 posts) -

HAHA! That is great.

#9 Posted by rentfn (1279 posts) -

I think Kotaku is ok. They post stuff quick so you get a heads up about whats going on. Then I go to a better site to get all the details.

#10 Posted by Turambar (6733 posts) -

I haven't checked in for a while, but does Mike Fayhe still write anything for the site? For all the things I hated about Kotaku, I was always rather fond of that guy.

#11 Posted by Ravenlight (8040 posts) -

Shitty journalism needs to be called out more often. Props to Kamiya.

#12 Posted by GunstarRed (5115 posts) -

hehe, wonderful.

#13 Posted by ArbitraryWater (11616 posts) -

I'm all for anyone calling out Kotaku for being the terrible sensationalist tabloid it is.

From the article.

UPDATE: The original headline for this story—"The Guy Who Made Bayonetta Is Clueless about Valve and PC Gaming"—has been changed. "Clueless" was a poor choice of words and we apologize for the negative connotation. That said, we appreciate Kamiya's colorful reaction to the story and hope that, now that we've changed the headline, those who couldn't get past that will be able to read the piece. - Stephen Totilo, Editor-in-Chief

I think it's still kind of dumb to tell the guy "did you actually read the piece?" when you use words like clueless.

Which is weird because their style seems to exemplify "buckshot journalism." Just put out 10 articles every minute and one of them is BOUND to hit SOMEthing.

#16 Posted by mosespippy (4112 posts) -

Personally I haven't read a kotaku article in 4 or 5 years and I close the window right away if a shortened link takes me to their site. I feel like this policy has served me well. It's a shame that their corporate culture has turned Jason Schreier from a decent reporter into another one of their horrible writers.

#17 Posted by OllyOxenFree (4970 posts) -

Fuck kotaku. All hail Kamiya.

#18 Posted by AlexW00d (6234 posts) -

I saw Patrick retweet one of these things and I thought it was some dumb parody/troll account? Who even is this guy?

What's even dumber is that the non-story is still up. "This just in: Bayonetta developer doesn't care about Valve's upcoming hardware developments. More at...wait, that's the entire story."

#20 Posted by DoctorWelch (2774 posts) -

Writing about video games is such a stupid business.

#21 Edited by CaLe (3955 posts) -

Some of his tweets in Japanese were a little too harsh imo. This guy has no tolerance for things he doesn't care about, and fuck you, 'you stupid foreigner,' for not understanding that. I can see getting frustrated at so many people spamming your twitter, but there's no need for tactless sweeping insults.

Edit // Looks like he's not keeping those comments strictly in Japanese:

Makes it hard to have any empathy; not that he gives a shit about such a thing of course.

I wish there was some Giant database of video game information to research such inquiries. That'd be the Bomb.

That's just it though. They try to lure you in with catchy names, take things out of proportion and the way they talk about themselves all the time...I mean the Bomb crew is also pretty high and mighty but for some reason they don't seem to be dicks about it. While the mere name of Kotaku just makes people sigh, Giantbomb seems to only get more popular. Quality versus quantity eh?

Kamiya is a bro. Its a shame he has no interest in the PC as a platform but telling Luke to eat shit is hilarious. The funniest thing is Luke @ replied him afterword saying that the article was actually well written and offered a good perspective on Japanese developers views of PC gaming.

Having no interest is different than being clueless.

Kotaku is dumb. Plunkett is even dumber. So, it really made me laugh wen Crecente went to work with Polygon and they herald themselves as the saviors of the enthusiast press.

Umm...isn't that headline defamatory? Like as in, a libel case defamatory?

Maybe I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but either way that's ridiculous, and it's crazy that Kotaku would go further and add a sarcastic remark about him after that.

#34 Posted by Superfriend (1541 posts) -

I stopped visiting Kotaku when they got their awful "redesigns". That said, I probably should have stopped earlier. They seem really desperate at times.

Oh and don´t get me started about those links that used to be on the bottom of that website... talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

#35 Posted by rain_elbows (34 posts) -

Well deserved.

#37 Edited by Abendlaender (2783 posts) -

Oh, this is priceless

Also, this is pretty great (after the "do you eat shit?" comment)

Luke Plunkett: huh? why the hostility? I'm honestly asking, because it's a good piece, explains a Japanese perspective on PC gaming.

Someone else: Did you just tell a Japanese game developer to learn about the Japanese perspective on Western gaming from a white American?

#38 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4676 posts) -

Kamiya is the man and his game are far better then those made by valve.

Hope he brings Bayonetta 2 to anything that isn't the Wii U.

Bayonetta 2 is being published by Nintendo so hoping for it to be released on non-Nintendo consoles is a fool's errand.

Don't care about kotaku but Kamia is probably the most agitated dude in the Japanese industry. It's really funny sometimes but other times he is just a jerk to people. Wouldn't want to know the guy but he is good for a laugh.

#44 Posted by TobbRobb (4596 posts) -

I loved Kamiya before this, but now I want to marry him.

I know that dig was not at all necessary, especially seeing how Kamiya was not speaking ill of value. I honestly believe that though and was my way of supporting his games. Cool if you like Value alot, many people do. I just much prefer games made by Kamiya, Mainly Bayonetta.

#46 Posted by HelicopterSpy (139 posts) -

Guys, Kotaku is in the Gawker family. Hating them for sensational headlines is like hating The New York Post for theirs. Gizmodo is the same way, and that's why people that are serious about tech don't go anywhere near that site. They know how to get clicks even if it's kinda scummy.

That said, Kotaku has done a lot of really great stuff and Totillo seems like a really smart, cool dude. You just have to wade through the horseshit to get at it sometimes.

Mobile site has no easy way to access a page, and I don't give enough of a shit to google. Although I see something to do with Bayonetta 2 from this thread.

Sp why is this story still up if Kamiya is indeed not Clueless about Valve and PC gaming?

The man basically said "no comment" and they turned that into a story?

Ohhhhh Kotaku
