Great article Patrick. This gives me some confidence in today's congressional leaders. It's an excellent point that people should call their representative. Don't waste your time on a five second internet petition. If you have the time to call your representative they certainly think you have time to go out and vote for them and will listen. I don't even want to know the number of people who commented on this story who don't know who their district representative is.

I have to admit, as irrational a defense as it is, Congressman Polis apparently knows how to play the bureaucrats in Washington. Nicely done, I guess, although it's a sad reflection of the state of our government.

He doesn't hate porn. He proposed a SOPA amendment which would cause SOPA not to include copyright protection of pornographers, which would allow porn copyright infringement to continue. If anything, he loves porn.

It's important to look at an individuals record and not simply assume anything based on their party affiliation.

Example: Ron Paul.

Not really, there are thousands of bills that try to get passed every month, they aren't all going to involve discussions that people are going to come away not having to delve into weird areas. Not necessarily in terms of content, but in terms of finding the right angle to argue a very abstract law. I'm sure most people in the room know what's going on but they have a process they need to go through.

But this shouldn't only be about influencing decissions but also educating people.

And while everybody and their mom had been busy pointing at the evil evil SOPA and PIPA nobody from the gaming community has been paying any attention to the much much worse ACTA in the EU.

All this is a fucking smokescreen to distract from ACTA getting pushed trough in the EU, once it's trough in the EU people in US congress have an even easier time arguing for SOPA/PIPA... Half of poland is protesting right now and even parts of their parlament are protesting in a very special way...

We are all together in this regardless of region, just because SOPA/PIPA is off the table for now doesn't mean we should ignore what happens in other places. Because ACTA could have an even worse effect on gaming considering how many countries it would affect.

So let's not be ignorant or dismissive about other important things happening just because they "don't happen in the US"....
