Mario must use all of his abilities as well as several new power ups to rescue Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser Junior in the first Super Mario Bros. game for the DS. It is the second best-selling game for the Nintendo DS, selling 14.16 million units worldwide.

New Super Mario Brothers is the first new side-scrolling Mario since the days of the Super Nintendo. It uses the DS's 3D capabilities to mix classic 2D gameplay with 3D characters. In it Mario must fight Bowser Jr. over eight worlds to rescue Princess Peach. He has available all of his classic power ups such as the mushroom and flame flower, and also has new abilities such as a giant mushroom that enlarges Mario to fill the entire screen, a mini mushroom that makes him small, and a blue turtle shell. The game includes several mini games that make use of the DS's stylus controls and dual screen, and many of these games can be played locally with other players without the need for a second cartridge.

Reception

New super mario bros was generally recieved well, it scored an 89 from metacritic. Most people thought the game had charm and originality but was to short. The other problem was that there was little replay value, the only thing worth playing the game again was finding the three gold coins on each level.
