@Manatassi: Well, I am late to the party, but that won't stop me from giving my input. ANyway, I think the reason people are not happy with you (or at least the reason I wouldn't be) isn't that you are a Mac advocate, but that you are advocateing a Mac here, in a thread about helping somebody with a problem with their windows machine -- not the place for it, I don't think the author was looking for that argument here, and, even if you are offended by the seemingly rabid response, recall that you were the one who brought up the topic to begin with. If you don't want to get yelled at (metaphorically), don't go around saying how much better Mac's are. They have advantages and disadvantages, like Windows, but getting a Mac is not going to help anybody remove a virus from their windows machine.
Anyway, with that out of the way, I would like to speak to everybody about a subject we all know: Viruses.
I work at a support place, so I see and heal lots and lots of infected machines, so I do know a thing or two (damn, that sounds concieted. whatever). Most of what I do has already been suggested, actually and I imaging the original problem has likely been addressed by now, but whatever. I have seen a lot of those Rogue AV programs that change the background, often they are/include rootkits, but the program that others mentioned, Combofix, can often clean those up. A combination of Combofix and Malware Bytes, run from safe mode, will usually clean up any infection that can be, really. I personally would advocate reinstalling the OS as a means of removing any serious virus infection, since that is the only sure was to make sure its gone and your system is clean, but often that is not pracitcal.
