" I'll believe it when I see it. "...and I'll pass on it when I see the price of the compatible televisions :P
3d movies now this shit? If I wanted a headache while playing video games, I'd tell my gf that I wanted see other people while playing PS3.
Depending on how they do this, this can either be really cool or really lame, just please don't do the different colored glasses route.
" According to Engadget, Sony claims thatThere isn't much to think of yet, since we haven't been given any big details about it, or how it will actually work. I don't understand the negativity, if you don't like it, you don't have to use the damn feature. I'm pretty indifferent on it right now, since I don't know how it is going to work. Chances are I won't use it, though.a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to "all" existing games on the system

" @Karmum: I didn't ask what people think of the quality of the implementation. I assume it will be similar to the WipEout HD demo, which I assume most of us have not seen. I was wondering what people think of the concept (i.e. if people care about 3D in their video games). I do assume people are at least familiar with the concept of 3D imagery. "That's why I'm saying, though. 3D in video games could work, or they won't work (probably leaning toward the latter). We won't know until we get more information on it, but I don't know why everyone would be upset over an optional-feature (i.e. see the G-Force Quick-Look).
Man, im still in a state of bewilderment over this recent 3D revival, never was my thing, but whatever, having the options good i guess, just as long as its not forced down peoples throat... which it more than likely will be....
Anyone want to spend $10,000 on a 3D TV?
According to this article in the UK Daily Mail, Sony isn't the only one with 3D projects in the works. Apparently the BBC's Channel 4 will air the 1953 coronation of the Queen in 3D soon. The problem with the whole 3D fad is (a) the glasses, (b) the headaches and associated nausea and (c) the expense. 3D in the home will require a new type of TV and that technology is just developing. It will be another 5 to 10 years before it is stable enough for the average gamer to utilize. I don't fault Sony for integrating this into new games, I just doubt it will impact anyone other than a select few for many years to come.
What blows me away even more is that apparently they have the update ready to make 3D possible on virtually their entire back catalogue.
It's sweet that Sony are at the cutting edge like this, but I don't see the costs being worthwhile. Yet.
According to Engadget Wipeout HD in 3D works really, really, well if you have the right hardware.
As i said on system wars and i wonder when TV makers start to find out these new 3d tvs start giving people headaches? i saw one of the prototypes at a tech show and watching it for the shortest amount of time killed my head.
In the end its not TRUE 3rd dimension, Not like how the human eye sees it its all tricks, 3d images produced in 2d seen by the eye in 2d but the mind tricks into seeing 3d which causes the eye to literally mutli focus which causes quite a bit of strain on the nerves and muscles of the eyes.
It tends to affect others more, like me i have 20/20 vision but things like the stereoscopic glasses and real 3d disney 3d and movie theater stuff just kills my eyes, the blue and red glasses dont work for me, when i wear em i still see the offset blue and red image that is supposed to combine via optical illusion via the glasses it just gives me a headache.
My guess is it will be exactly like Nvidia 3D vision, which has been available for a while - meaning fancy glasses and the only 'special' thing your display will need is a high refresh rate for comfortable viewing (120hz or higher). This is because each eye is only getting half of the frames, so a regular 60hz refresh rate TV = 30 hz per eye, which will literally cause your head to explode.
It isn't a great deal of work to make the games '3D compatible' or anything, I think it's just the same process applied to the existing image. It's obviously optional, so no need to flip out.
I don't understand all the 3D hate, it's an option for people if they want to use it or not with the PS3. As far as movies goes I can understand, most films that are converted to 3D may look weird in parts, this is because the film was not meant to be shot in 3D. Just wait till Avatar hits theaters this fall, hopefully it will be amazing.
I don't believe it. You have to render twice the frames to do stereoscopic 3D. Maybe it requires two PS3s, but even that would be a technical miracle.
edit - to emphasize the problem, a 60 frames per second game would become 30, a 30 FPS game would become 15... There's no technical magic you can do to prevent this. It's required.
" @choffy21: Never catch on? I highly doubt that, especially considering that James Cameron shot his movie Avatar on custom built 3D cameras. What we need to see is a movie that was shot for 3D specifically, Avatar will be that movie. "3D makes a comeback every few years but never catches on. Looks like 2009 is exactly the same.
Hmm sure, and it's probably be awesome like the virtua boy...and you know how that went...
Meh..even if they manage it, it'll be expensive, and probably will give you headaches
