The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
the infamous, and rare "Yellow light of death"
" i know there is a lot of threads on this, but can somebody please tell me exactly what happens?PS3 doesn't turn on at all, and you only see a yellow light. Seen my friend's do this, he lives in a smoking environment so his launch PS3 crapped out on him for sure."
okay well my ps3 shut off, flashed a yellow light then turned red immediately.
" I find the title of this topic ironic because I had this happen to my PS3 while playing infamous. "and yes, that is ironic.
"I find the title of this topic ironic because I had this happen to my PS3 while playing infamous. "When I first read it I was thinking it must be about Infamous making your PS3 get the yellow light.
" Surprisingly, I hear more about the yellow light than I do about RROD now. I know it's just because RROD is so common it's hardly worth mentioning when you get one, but still, it's really weird. "yeah, i mean, everybody gets rrod and probably more than once.
" The launch 60 GB maybe got discontinued for other reasons we don't know about. I don't think I've ever seen an 80 GB crap out on anyone yet. "
I have a launch 60gig and it still runs perfectly fine. As said, this is just a really rare issue.
it is a very rare issue and i know PS3 owners get a little annoyed whenever they see something about it.
yup i got it!! Fucking blows
I didn’t get the yellow light of death But I did get the three beeps and a red light of death, The damn thing swallowed a rental disc.
Sony was good about it though three months off warranty and still gave me a new one I even got my Hdd back.
although I could not be arsed to swap it around and lost all my game saves and Installs.
" @MattyFTM said:Saying that everyone will get RROD at least once is a blatant overstatement. I have never gotten one and neither has anyone I know." " @JeffGoldblum said:Yeah lol... although my brother has had his 360 since launch and it has been fine somehow. My other brother bought it about a year ago, and has had the rrod 3 times already. Pretty much everyone with a 360 I know has had a rrod at least once. But big deal really, it's still a great console and lots of fun." @TwoOneFive said:oh, please. I would also like to see a picture of the yellow light, just because :P
and how long is the PS3's warranty?
" @TwoOneFive said:I'd have to agree. In never hear the other side of the story because almost every person I know who owns a 360 has had RROD happen at least once. My PS3 died once, but still.oh, please. "Uhm, I haven't gotten one yet either - you just don't hear the other side of the story because we don't have anything to complain about :p "
" @TwoOneFive: Does this really have to retort to a thread bashing the Xbox 360?I would also like to see a picture of the yellow light, just because :Pand how long is the PS3's warranty? "Why? Did your computer break google's search engine?
The Red Ring of Death is rather relevant when we talk about bricked machines.
" @NoXious said:exactly. everyone i know who has or had a 360 (and i live in philly, tonnnss of people i know have 360s) and they've all experienced rrod AT LEAST once. its just a fact, i didn't bash 360 at all." @TwoOneFive said:I'd have to agree. I remember this happened to me two times last year, the first year I got my PS3. I got it January of 2008, and it broke in June, right after school ended. I remember that I was going to play a COD4 match and I was at the screen where it's loading the map for everyone to play on. I swear my screen froze or something because it was over 5 minutes of waiting so I was like screw it, so I pressed the back button (I call it the "Emergency Switch") and when I started my PS3 back up, I couldn't play disc games.
So I sent it in and urged for a new PS3 but they repaired it anyways, and didn't get it back until mid to late July. One fucking month later, it broke again! Thankfully, Sony has nice customer service so they understood how pissed I was and got a brand new one. One thing I noticed about it is that is doesn't sound like an engine when I turn it on or play online anymore, the other one overheated easily even when I didn't play it for a week. So I'm pretty sure overheating has alot to do with it, just like the RROD.
I once had the "neon pink with splotches of yellow and beige" light of death. It's hard to explain what happened exactly, but let's just say my PS3, rake, three gerbils, and Frosted Flakes will never be the same again.
" @Nets said:I live ina pretty damn warm place and the ps3 always starts up its super loud fan if I play it and its not winter. So far have had no problems with it but seeing all of you complain keeps making me nervous about it. (Its around 40 degrees celcius around ehre right now)I agree. I am pretty sure overheating was the reason for it happening and I blame myself for really slacking lately on keeping the dust and my dogs hair from being anywhere near it and its been pretty hot in hear lately. between me, my 14 year old brother and my dad who loves blu-rays, this thing gets used constantly for extended periods of use.i think the ps3 is still a top quality product and no where near as prone to dying as, well not to incite fanboy rage or anything, the 360."
I got the yellow warning light because my launch PS3's fan failed. I called Sony support and they sent me a box to ship it to them. I found out that dust and pet hair had become bound around the fan and caused it to fail. I had backed up my saves and everything 6 months before. Everything I downloaded from PSN had to be re-activated and redownloaded, that took a bit. My wife loves Singstar and it took a few emails to get those reactivated for download. Also the PSN video store needed a separate email. I think it cost $150 for repair and replacement, worth it since I got to redownload all my stuff.
And if all of my game data is still safe, I'm going to be back it all up, so if it does the ylod again, I reckon I'm going to get a ps3 slim and transfer all my data onto the slim.
Considering if I can afford that lol.
Bought an Arcade a while back, never died, but I traded it towards a slim when Gamestop was running there credit towards a slim thing a year or so ago. I'd say 80% of my friends have had RROD and about 75% of those friends also had YLOD, I just assume it's how you treat your consoles. I haven't had, in my 2 decades of gaming, a single console fail, because I treat them like the investments that they are. Though my fat PS1 tried, oh I played the shit out of that thing, actually put it on a cooling rack used for baking because I feared heat failure so much.
