Nice job guys! Ya did it! I enjoy this series, so hopefully it continues on.

I think a really good game for This Is The Run would be Wild Guns (either the original SNES game, or the very recent PS4 remake, Wild Guns Reloaded ). It's not a super long game, but beating it without continuing (which is what the goal would have to be, since I think you can continue back at the start of a level indefinitely) takes a little bit of practice. It has a similar thing going on where a lot of the challenge is pattern memorization, threat management, etc. Plus it's a great game! Just my two cents :)

Cool list! Never heard of Viking Squad, but it looks pretty awesome. (Conveniently, it's on sale on PSN this week, I might actually pick it up, looks like something that would be fun to play with my wife.) I've always been surprised more brawlers didn't use the "lanes" mechanic so you don't have to worry about getting on exactly the same plane. Guardian Heroes did it way back when and it worked well, I thought the idea would have been copied more.

Videoball is definitely surprisingly fun, glad to see someone mention it.

Great, insightful, funny article! I always love when Mike does writing for GB.

I know where you are coming with regards to Overwatch, I've been averse to most modern multi-player games for the same reasons you laid out here, but have totally gotten hooked on Overwatch. I just have fun playing, and feel like I can contribute even without being an immaculate sharpshooter or something like that.

@brad@danryckert

I also thought the payoff for the opportunity you guys did with overdosing the hostage was lame...but then I figured out last night that there is an additional step you should do that the game doesn't really point out to you with the opportunity markers.

Basically, when Ezra thinks the dosage of his drugs is off, he'll go back to the shed where you guys got the basement key and use the chemistry set in there to try and make new drugs. If you use a wrench to loosen the gas valve on the tank in there, the whole place explodes! (There are some notes you can read that allude to this, which is how I figured it out). I think doing the opportunity is the only way to get him to use the science equipment; I tried loosening the gas valve and waiting around a while and nothing ever happened.

Just thought ya'll might want to know, it made that opportunity way cooler when I figured it out.

Figure I should talk about the game and not delicious delicacies, since most of you have that covered :)

This game is fantastic, and deviously difficult. I've gotten to the 3rd island of puzzles, and there is still no end in sight. The way it introduces new mechanics is really smart; it's never explicit, but it forces your hand through the way the levels are designed (yes, you do get to use the fork in its intended manner!).

@davidh219: I was wondering the same thing after reading the review. To be honest, I can still get into a game that is just puzzles for puzzles' sake (so I very well still may enjoy The Witness), but having just come off playing The Talos Principle (which I can't recommend enough, it's probably my favorite first-person puzzle game ever at this point), I'm worried I might be a little disappointed. Talos nailed the puzzle mechanics, good difficulty, world building, AND story all in one package. I'm mainly concerned that The Witness won't hold my attention for apparently how long it is without any story to speak of.

This is a great, weird list that speaks to me. Hopefully it is as honest as it is (very) funny . I have a soft spot for weird Japanese RPGs and dungeon crawlers.

I'm reminded that I really enjoyed what I played of Etrian Mystery Dungeon and Bloodborne, I need to get back to those.

I did not expect to see The Crew on any list this year.

Me either! "Ford Fusion Mystery Dungeon" as a descriptor made me laugh harder than it should have.

I love ActRaiser, such a great game! This makes me want to get out my SNES cart and play it again. As others have mentioned, the sequel is a bit disappointing as it is less of a genre mashup, and more straight sidescroller.

@steevl: I thought the same thing about Soul Blazer, weirdly enough.
