Suits have no value in poker. "
Except when a royal flush beats a normal flush...

A straight flush beats a regular flush, doesn't matter if there are face cards in it or not.  2, 3,4,5,6 suited beats an ace high flush same way three two's beats a pair of aces. It's just a better hand.

Newhaap was suggesting an Ace of Spades is somehow better than an Ace of Diamonds. They're worth the same. Suits don't figure into it.  An ace is an ace is an ace.

" You guys need to watch some classic Mickey cartoons.  His ears have been doing that since, well, pretty much always.  I found it pretty cool that they put that in.

"
Oh, I know it's always done that. I've hung out with people who worked for Disney Interactive and it was a major issue when they first started working with Mickey games (initially his ears were going to be spheres).

It's just bizarre watching the 3D geometry of his ears, more so than the flat ink drawings because I KNOW...if we could just move the camera we could see them on edge.

Like Mickey or not (sign me up for not), but I can't watch him in 3d. It's his ears. They ALWAYS face the camera. It's like they exist outside of this universe.

I'm only 2 minutes into the quick look and I can't focus on anything other than how his ears are at best theoretically part of our reality and can only be perceived from one vantage point.

Yeah. I'd believe it. The Telltale forums has a lot of talk about 'the hands are proper, it's just not clear to the players because of the announcer who won which pot'. But stuff like this keeps happening.  Here. One on one, hands are identical, the pot should be split. There's no side pot or anything.

I win, achievement unlocked.

I actually do know a good amount about poker and every so often there's some real what-the-fuck moments. It's just really depressing because, ultimately, the 'poker' part of this game as far as designing the rules is SO much easier than anything else.

Giantbomb combined gamerscore is one of the noblest pursuits there is.

And easy achievement points are why I bought it.

" Games shipping with bugs seems to be a growing trend in the industry. I don't like it one bit. Maybe I'll write a blog about it; seems like there's a lot to talk about. "

But what might be driving me most insane is there are bugs in the poker engine. Seriously, this is a fucking solved problem. We learned how to make poker software decades ago.

I actually worked in social networking software for a few years and helped develop an online poker game. The routines are out there and publicly available. This is not 'we gotta write this shit ourselves' territory. Example... Tycho and I have the EXACT same hand. Notice we both beat Strongbad so, we should split the both pots between the two of us, with Strongbad getting nothing.

Wait... wut.

The only thing I could think of is Tycho had K8 and I had K5 and it gave it to him for having a higher 'kicker'. Only, that's not how you play poker. Best five cards.

If he has A9 and I have A2 and the cards are

A, K, K, 7, 2.... I lose.

I don't win because I have 3 pair.

He has AAKK9 and I have AAKK7

So yeah. This shit is infuriating. I'm REALLY enjoying the dialog between Strongbad, Max and The Heavy. But at this rate, they might as well have just made an animated cartoon.

I'd pay $5 extra bucks to get rid of Tycho.

Give me Guybrush, or Marty or...seriously anyone else.

Good god, man.

Telltale's forums are blowing up with posts about the game crashing, running poorly or not running at all. I had to chime in for the 'repeatedly opens and crashes itself in a loop' thread as I kicked $5 to apparently fund the QA process for this game.  Barely worth mentioning how many times Steam timed out when trying to purchase it in the first place (took like an hour).

https://www.telltalegames.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25

There's also a massive thread on Steam forums for it. I mean... yeah. I don't know if they were rushing to beat a Christmas deadline like a retail copy, but failure to launch.

Is everyone else meeting with success or are there problems with the gb users as well?

Not to kill your endorphin rush, but it's the visual attitude and 'fever rush' sort of stylistic flair of insanity that is coupled with the gameplay (and maybe copious amounts of nostalgia) that is causing the draw to this game when you dissect it to the sum of it's own parts. I'm sure most can agree that without the visual flair and thumping beats of the music, the experience is not even remotely the 'gamer genre x-factor' that you speak of. "
Let's make it clear... I never said or intended to say 'genre'.  I was being hyperbolic by implying there is something in the game that fundamentally appeals to people who play video games. Presenting this game to my father will do nothing. The game seems to scratch some very low level itch in a lot of people.

Your reasoning could very well be exactly why. It fits in with my whole point. I didn't offer any explanation for why it is enthralling - just pointing out they found the formula.
