How does Nintendo sleep at night?

Generic Wii title of 2010 confirmed!
Generic Wii title of 2010 confirmed!
On a large pile of money!

Wii Party was announced today to little fanfare, quite strange for a game that is guaranteed to sell 20 million units in a year's time. After the success of Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, and dozens of party games on the Wii, Nintendo may have finally run out of ideas. Wii Party is a party game that for me is about 3 years too late and almost comical in its timing. Nintendo might have started the minigame explosion these past few years, but everything about Wii Party screams generic minigame cash-in. It totally looks like Nintendo never got on the minigame bandwagon and decided to release their own cookie-cutter party game.

And it's totally gonna work. It's going to be a best-seller, a mainstream media darling for a few days, and most likely a good game. I'll likely get it because I'm a brainwashed robot zombie, but Wii Party is looking like the most unnecessary game of the year.

At least I can fall asleep at night knowing Mario, Metroid, and Sin & Punishment will be here soon. Which reminds me, I really want to do another Mario Galaxy run before Galaxy 2 comes out.

Hey-o!

Yeah...my first reaction to Wii Party was a chuckle. And not in a good way.

Still have a strong desire for Galaxy 2 (and for that matter, Galaxy 1) though.

I'm still crying over the fact that there has been no mention of Mario Golf Wii. Why Nintendo? Why? Why do you torment me? You're rebooting Mario Party but no golf. Damn you to hell, but thanks for Super Mario Galaxy 2, that shit's preordered.

I really couldn't tell you why. I know I won't get it right away. I avoided getting Wii Play until I felt like I needed a 3rd controller. I'll probably wait a year or so until I get Wii Party, but I have a feeling it's inevitable. Plus, I have a weird feeling Wii Party might use the Vitality Sensor which... I don't know.

I have no fucking clue why I'm gonna buy this game.

@Godwind: Nintendo hasn't said anything about Wii Party and the Vitality Sensor. There's only been an announcement so far, no real details. The Vitality Sensor is just rumors and speculation for now.

Call it reasonable that it will be sold.  Wii Music would have sold better if they packaged in a Nunchuck.

Does it at least come bundled with anything like Wii Play did? I mean, really... I think that's the only reason why Wii Play sold so well. Without the included extra controller, I imagine it wouldn't have gotten very far. So if Wii Party doesn't have some sort of pack-in, I suspect it won't sell that well afterall.

So... how about skipping it? You would be wasting money by buying this game, and you already know that you won't like it. I get that you are way into Nintendo and the Wii and whatnot, but that's no reason to buy something you don't need.

Donate the money to charity, or better yet, buy the game for a child in need or something. That way, you would get something out of it, at least.
